Just leave the rusted car how it is and build the white car

Seeing this car feels like coming home.... I may be a couple thousand miles away..... but seeing the Old Sol, takes me back to my childhood room watching this car for the first time. Thank you for bringing it back and Happy New Year !

Yay starting the year with Del Sol content! I remember talking to you on Honda-Tech when you were trying to figure out what you wanted to do with it. I was so shocked when I ran across it as RuinedSol.

Love seeing the route your going here. When you originally found it I was inspired to find my first vehicle. A 1993 Nissan Hardbody (pickup) I got my Junior year of high school (2001) and sold in 2009. It was modded in typical minitruck style of the early 2000's. 5/6 static drop, shaved rear end, full blue paint job and some painted interior pieces. After about a month of searching in early 2022 (13 years after selling it) I found my truck sitting in a salvage yard in Florida. I was able to buy it and luckily it was complete and hadn't had much sold off of it (just the fuel rail). It was also very similar to how I sold it. After about 6 months I got it running again and road worthy and have been enjoying it. The nostalgia is real with your first vehicle and I'm glad you inspired me to search for mine!

Can't wait to see what you do with it! Definitely think you should paint it white. Make a super clean delsol and keep the rusted one as is. Even if its a driveway ornament.

I'd leave the OG one just as it is, as an LZ Compound ornament. And I'd build the White one with a B16, in a OEM+ style. Just like the Supra or NSX, so to say. I'd never rock that interior, sorry Mike, it's f'ugly!!! And on the other hand, I wouldn't "part out" the OG one. I understand being nostalgic about the car, but that's just why I would leave it just as it is.

I just got a 97 si with absolutely 0 rust and complete, all OEM and matching vins I'm so so excited and I'm glad I stumbled upon ur channel!

You probably don't want to go crazy with this build but have you thought about doing a K-series? It seems like it would outperform the D-series in stock form, and would be more cost effective for higher horsepower. In fact there's a couple K-series engines for sale in Palm Bay FL if you're interested. Idk if that's close to you or not but it's always worth a mention, really looking forward to the build!

Amazing, your story is really similar to my, when I purchased my first car, Honda del Sol 93, It was prime ready for paint, drove it for about 8 years, sold it and them purchased back for the same reason you did. My Del Sol is park in my back yard waiting for me to rebuilt it.

I would not touch anything from the old car. I would start with a new build and definitely keep the D series in the old car and put a K series in the new car. New interior and a new paint job. 5 lugs and make just a beautiful car. Keep it white and have the entire car repainted including the engine bay.

dude you are kinda missing the point when you were a child you thought as a child now your a man think like a man keep the ruined sol as it is as a keepsake and build the new del sol how you would now and you have the best you could do then vs the best you can do now........ ya know the two cars would show a story of progression and growth just my .02 cents

If i could have my first car back, id do it without a second thought, even if it was in a unrestorable condition. i rather have it in my life as a decoration then not be able to connect with it ever again. Something as simple as sitting in it and listening to the exhaust tone would make me happy on my worst days, even if i couldnt take it around the block without dying

Honestly I’d say leave the ruined sol as is, leave it sitting doing its thing, build the white one from fresh, and do it how you wanted to do. Plus with a K swap or maybe B series

Id say leave the ruined sol as it is and rebuild the white car into the Sol you always wanted. Leave both interiors as they are and just replace the parts that are needed to make the new cars interior perfect. If you change interiors you will regret it in 3-5 years because you will want a cleaner look because the car will be to nice for the rat rod look

Maybe i misheard and you said B16 and not D16. If not, any thoughts on putting a B16 in there?

Love the idea of re-building a Del Sol as you would've if you had your current resources. A couple years back I had a Yaris S that I loved, but it was rusty and high miles. Found a clean base Yaris, and I moved all the S bits (interior, wheels, etc) to that clean base. Allowed my first Yaris to live on through a cleaner car (that is still my daily driver)

I feel like you should leave the OG del Sol how it is and build the new sol in a way you build cars now days. (But with a K series under the hood 😉)

Leave the OG del sol as is for that nostalgic effect. It literally started with you from day 1. Rebuild the white one ofc

Are you going to turbo it ? Not a giant turbo making 900hp that spits fire but just a little boost

My only concern would be that the amount of work needed to make ruined del "functional" again, would be too much... So i would daily the other del, but make the og at least, in driveable condition

Watch @prizzamike, he restored his 240 🤷‍♂️. The rust may seem like a lot but it’s all fixable with time and commitment. I’d personally say to restore the rusty one and build the other one as well 🤷‍♂️

I can’t wait to see this build! I think you’re on the right path with how you want to build it but it would be so sick to see this thing how you would build it now compared to how you did back then. the rusted sol is what started it all and this car should be a tribute to it just with all the different knowledge and styling you have grow to love over the years incorporated into the new chassis.

Smart idea to re-create your youthful dream car with the new solid chassis and OG parts from the rust-bucket. The D16 with a few basic internal upgrades, ((better springs and retainers, forged rods and pistons) and a small turbo setup can get you a safe 200/250 hp instead of 107/135 hp that will make it feel like a shifter cart!

@diiviinemedia I know you won't see this but I have been watching your videos since you were editing COD. I subbed when i got my first car (also a very rusty bondo filled 93 del sol). At 16 this car made me love cars, I swapped the B18B engine in my gravel driveway and owned a del sol until I was 20. When I watched youtube back then for car stuff I would always comeback to your videos of the del sol when it was white. The one that sticks out had Just a Gents (dope edm dj) music and I really thought your car was the shit! Ended up selling mine to a friend and it got crushed when the shop he had it in dropped a car off a lift onto the Del Sol.

I've been following you since your ruined sol IG had 900 subs. Bought my fit back in 2013 and you were one of the first people I followed and inspired me to get involved with my shit. Look at you now dude. Proud of ya

Funny thing is the Del Sol groups are where I first knew you from when I started seeing the ruined sol being posted around. A lot of people hated on it but a lot of people loved it including myself. I miss my del sol Vtec, I'd love to find mine and rebuild it nowadays so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what you do with this!

That first full minute of this video kinda struck a chord for me. Your channel has been with me for a good chunk of my life (7-8 years) and it’s crazy to see the del Sol clips again compared to the NSX and where you are now. The nostalgia was real for a minute.

Del sol is ok but nothing even compared to the CRX believe I'm a Honda Guy and I had a lots of Hondas including del sol but I always leave my CRX old school style a d15b2 with a po8-3 head no VTEC or turbo crap all motor with a 272 Delta cam regrind and a 32/36 Weber using the obdo distributor lighter flywheel and gd clutch kit and others old school style knowledge she bulk looking and she sounds like a old ford muscle car ride wise better than a porche and fast like hell and real gd on gas compression 10.5 and believe she rumble nice

I would go the new shell route.

I am an original owner of 1997 Honda Del Sol Si. It has 222,000 miles. I have maintained it for 27 years. I remember when the 1993 Came out. They offered the S And the Si. The S was the starter version. Since you are rebuilding it and you are modifying Please had a rear sway bar. Driving the Del Sol without a sway bar is no fun. My 1997 Si has front and rear sway bars . The only thing it does not have is antilock breaks. My car is a five speed manual. It is so reliable. The car is quick enough for me. It will easily cruise 100 miles per hour. If you have never driven a manual Del Sol you are in for a treat. I am looking at going upto a 15 inch wheels I am going to go for a Recaro seats. I have never been a fan of the stock seats. I also use Bosche 4 prong platinum spark plugs It made quite a difference. The car instantly start without any hesitation. Best of luck with your car. You may find that you keep Your uprated Del Sol. It reminds of a slot car. I still love the way it goes. Believe it or not it is my only car. I do have access to another car but rarely use it. I like the maneuverability of the car

Paint it white. Interior add white accents, but not a lot.Restore and upgrade the D16 to maybe a small turbo setup, I would target 350hp or so. Nice suspension, wheels, brakes and LSD rear diff. Modest sound setup with like Kicker or similar.

Kswap it nobody want the d16 or atleast put a b16 in it

Awesome. Can i suggest you get the shell dipped/sand blasteed and when it comes timeto paint, i humbly suggest a Pearlescent White !

Repainting it frost white is the easiest and safest route for sure. If you wanna stand out, i suggest painting it the rare color - samba green pearl (engine bay, door jambs, everything). If you're looking for an even more rare color - adriatic blue pearl - which was used exclusively for the 1998 crx/del sol Motegi (only 500 manufactured in that color in germany). To compliment the blue exterior, the interior was finished in a combination of orange leather and black. I know how stunning it looks because - i actually have an imported Motegi Sol sitting in my garage. Take my word on it, the car is an absolute head turner. Good luck on your color decision.

Project Renewed Sol 😎 You said it yourself, Ruined Sol isn’t your style anymore. I wouldn’t even worry about tying the two cars together, this is a new project for a new level in life. Clean, white, OEM+ on some polished wheels.

I have a beat to crap 1990 db1 i bought in 2011. hasn't ran in like, 6 years (it does actually run, just way too much wrong with it to drive) needs another engine rebuild, new cylinder head, and a transmission rebuild along with new shifter bushings and brackets. Could use a new exhaust too. Has a built forged engine, s300 v2, and a decent suspension setup. Didn't spend a dime on cosmetics besides replacing some panels with better condition ones, and none of the power windows work. Don't care though because I put all my money into making it go fast, not look fast. It's nonvtec but surprisingly kept up with my friends stock gsr till I ran out of gear. I built it for going up and down the mountain roads we have out here and it did that really well. Short gears, lots of torque for what it is, and a mildly decent suspension setup makes for a fun combo

Daily drove a 95 del sol for 2 years. You may have seen it in one of the groups, it was the jurassic park one. LOVED that thing and selling it may be my biggest regret. 0 rust and let it go for $3200 but it was auto and d15b7

Our era of cars was the last great era for young kids, we could technically build $1,000 RUNNING Hondas with super cheap parts now any running “cheap” car easily price at $3000 now for the same car and parts are more expensive, this generation will never know what it meant to call a car “mint” and all the cheap cars those guys built or even the boosted boys and just channels like that we had it good

Following the build or rebuild I guess. That's wild the different eras of the scene.. I'm from the pre- Fast n Furious era so I've seen so much change. Never really been big into trends though (ok so my 96 neon did have a full Wings West body kit back in the day lol). But my idea of a clean and simple build has never really changed with the exception of my preference in wheel offsets.

Holy cow I thought about this car the other day, same with my RU-vid name lol, made this in highschool when “hellaflush” was cool and I followed everyone in the scene and this was one of my favorites! I was wondering what happened to it, about 8 years later I now drive a 2003 GTI and my 2018 Golf R but these old Honda builds will always be cool to me!

I can't wait for the build to start. I agree that white would be easy. I just think a different color would be awesome. As you already have white and black cars. I think a body kit kit and a turbo would make this build sick! A fast, small car and really nimble.

so, a clean oem+ look? depending on budget you can build something really nice. Since the bay is gutted...if you have time...shave the bay and with a clean refreshed D16 that bay would look fresh.

I would love to see the same "concept" with maybe a faux patina and a crazy engine bay. All I can say is don't copy what you had exactly, but pay homage to the essence of the rat rod/bomber vibe with 2024 parts and a new outlook. You've always had dope taste in builds and I think if you take that experience and apply it to creating something outside of the box you'll kill it

You can build a replica car but it still won’t be YOUR first car. I think it would be cool to just take all the good parts/metal and build back your first car to whatever form you currently desire. I personally would get more satisfaction knowing it was my first car that is restored. I wish i could find my first car, probably scrapped by now.

My second car was a H swapped 95 s. I remember seeing the commercial back the mid 90's of the del sol and wanted one so bad and got one in 03. Flash forward to 08 and I flipped it end over end a couple times crushing both the front and rear of the car. Surprisingly, even ending up in the ditch upside down the windshield didn't even crack at all and the top had some scratches but didn't dent it and the none of the pillars had any deflection, so they're some what safe??? My rifle in the passenger seat did pierce the passenger seat and I didn't have my seat belt on because I made it like 1000 ft from the house before I biffed it, wear your seat belt, kids, and secure anything that will become a projectile. I would say H or B series swap it for the time period correctness of the car, but just K swap it.

Bag it and paint it black #BLACKSOL Not sure if it was a rare feature but the trunklid that rises to pull the targa top back and down into the trunk. Have a drinks shelf exposed when the trunk lifts up. Love the videos and I know this thing will be dope when it's done 🤙🏼

I've been wanting to do a rusted out car since i 1st saw this car many years ago. the Ruined Sol is one of my fav builds period. i think it would be super cool to remake it better then i was before given your current situation in life vs when you 1st worked on it to your knowledge and success you have now. tthe only way you could even Bring back the OG Ruined Sol is to stay with its berth, grab whatever cheap scarp you got and weld it back together like some Mad max looking thing with a custom Mid Engine set up and custom tube frame the whole car would sit on. at that point you could of built your dream Del Sol.

You should hook up with the Boosted Boiz and PFI Brent/Jamie to help with the engine build side of things! That little D16 is begging for a turbo kit! That would be a cool colab too!

Michael I’ve had an OEM non vented seibon CF hood that I had on my del sol! I use to have a champ white del sol and still regret selling it to this day!!! I’m willing to donate and gift it to you for free… it’s been sitting in my moms garage for like 4-5 years now

I saw the similarities to the del sol and the supra. It gave a few ideas, Maybe a rotary swop... But I picked up that's not your vibe. The wide body look though 👌

Keep the rusted one as it is, make the white one an awesome daily driver that is capable of hitting the track I've always wanted one of these but make it a rear-wheel drive and put a b series motor in the back end and make it a Honda version of the MR2 and Pontiac fiero and most lotus and give it a wide body kit for the rear but keep the engine stock so I still get that potential 33 City mileage and then make a version that's focused on power and drivability as a street-legal track beast with nothing crazy not the thousand hp that a b series can make up to maybe just a sensible 500 max and make it into what the S2000 could have been.

Mike. When you are done harvesting parts of the OG car, cut the driver's side off it lengthwise from inside the headlight all the way back, put some bracing under it and mount it on the wall in your garage.

man build the del sol properly put do a k swap build nice paint and clean interior. Like you said you have a completely different style now compared to before. Some stuff are meant to be left behind so you can grow. That del sol was an amazing build but now you have to continue growing as a automotive RU-vid enthusiast

Get with the PFI crew and I’m sure Brent n Jamie will point you in the right direction to build up the D-series. They had a couple high horsepower d-series turbo cars on their dyno.

I think painting the new shell a rust orange color would be a great homage. My bugeye wagon is just starting to show some signs of age from living it’s life in New England and I’d love to find a similar shell at some point

You should ditch the single cam and do a dual cam swap whether it’s a b series or k series. If you’re gonna be going through all that effort, might as well do something that makes more then 120hp

My personal option throw a b20 in it with bolt ons and keep it clean on some sw388 wheels and make it a compound competitor for Adam’s crx

I just got a Rust free del Sol, 96 running with the air with nothing wrong standard, except for the back window doesn’t work and I got the parts didn’t fix it red

Put the back of a CRX on a del Sol and you gotta face lifted CRX. Someone who knows how to turn on a plasma cutter and a Mig machine should be adept enough.
