Tupper Laker here, just found your channel. I remember the trains coming through as a child, loved the sound of the train whistle.

I hope they bring the scenic train rides back. As an upstate NY native, I know this railroad all too well.

Witold definitely had some 'pep in his step' when there was the promise of being where the trains were located. Lucky fellow! Cheers from Belton MO!

Super video. Thank You for the update on progress there. Sure wish it went all the way to Lake placid. What a journey that would've been, From Morrisville NY.

I agree, great video. Brings back many memories. Spent my childhood on Upper Saranac Lake, with a lot of time in Tupper Lake. It's nice to see the area still flourishing. Regarding the track going all the way to Lake Placid, I'm not sure that's possible anymore? Although it's been a long time since I was in the area, the last time I knew there was a section of that track that was washed out near the floodwood area (near Lake Clear), where the tracks run adjacent to Rollins Pond. But I do agree with you, that would certainly be a nice ride all the way to Lake Placid. Although having said all this, I hope the area never loses its charm. As I said, growing up up there, it's certainly a very therapeutic experience. Not just being in the mountains - the air, the atmosphere, the slower pace, nice people - but just the overall positive therapeutic effect it has on a person. Just my opinion... but I do hope it doesn't change with further progress.

Thanks for another great video, I’m planning on going to Tupper Lake this summer. I think Witold should be receiving income from the Tourism Department for promoting all these Great Adventures 😊, Thanks from Sunny North Carolina.

As someone from Tupper Lake, I'm glad to see the the railroad come alive. I was lucky to be able to take a closer look at the train featured in the video (There's a neighborhood where the train was easily visible), and it looked like was just left to rot there, even though it was newly there. It has since moved elsewhere

Watching your video from Central Square, NY - The crossroads of the NY Central (St. Lawrence division) & O&W.... I will never understand why and I can't help but be saddened that we lost the rail from Tupper to Saranac not to mention the grand station in Saranac to truly showcase the Adirondack line...

Getting Bitold ready for a field trip is like trying to get a Alco started after a winter slumber. For a moment I thought he may have bitten through a electrical cord and got a power surge. Glad he made it track side to check out the rebuilding and that is a major project. Several years ago the Wisconsin and Southern rebuilt a line that had been dormant at least 15 years and it entailed digging out the old trackage and virtually starting from scratch. Expensive but at least you have a rail line that will last quite a few years. Thanks for the update and it is not raining today in Milwaukee

It never fails to amaze me the cost, both monetary and labour, that it took to build the railroads in the USA. If you follow the track bed north from Tupper Lake on Google maps, it is a virtual wilderness with nothing that would generate traffic. And of course, Witold is the star.

This was a busy through route to Montreal the daily freight between Utica and Montreal was a big train. There were a lot of local customers all along the line as well.

I agree that this is very "thin" territory for railroad service. In his "Fairy Tale Railroad", Henry Harter noted that the decline on this line had begun as early as the 1920s when paved roads first reached the more remote towns such as Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake. In the end, it was a sad ending with passenger trains that I saw in the 1960s consisting of an old coach tacked onto the end of a train with a few propane cars destined for Lake Placid.

Living in Tupper Lake 30 plus years, their is nothing here to see. They took the best part of the tracks out that led to Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. No Taxi, save your money unless you want to be bored to death!

New Plan for Amtrak; rebuild the line from Tupper to Ottawa and institute a new premium route with cars run straight through to Washington, D.C.- "The Senator". 😊

Is this the railroad that was involved in a big lawsuit to shut them down that they lost because the community there didn't want to run down the right of way between the rails?
@treesixtyeight
@treesixtyeight 3 месяца назад
A small group (supported by the snowmobilers for the reason you note) were behind the removal of the rails north of Tupper Lake. A compromise was struck whereby the rails came up north of Tupper Lake, and the line was rehabilitated south to Remsen. There are still those who would like to see all the rails gone.
