Because of legal reasons they couldn't use the Shatner mold. I thought they did the best they could with part 4. When I was a kid I didnt lay attention to the difference. Now H20 and that shit CGI mask was crap. They shoulda stuck with the H6 mask after using it in the opening sequence of H20. It looked way better.

H4 was a rush job like this, but I think the sideburns work because it makes it look more like a natural face, and it's best scene in Brady's death because the eyes were not cut bigger by then, the drugstore scene also has the hero unconverted and only with the white paint on with a little bit of the white kirk hair done brown

Let's be fair though... The only truly awful Halloween movies are H6: The Curse of Michael and the Rob Zombie films. H4's mask is markedly different but it still works for the film. H5's mask, supposedly the same one in continuity to H4 is a joke. But the movie's still good. Ironically, the H6 mask is better than the H5 mask but the movie is shit, so.

My 2016 TOTS Elrod still holds up mold-wise, only the hair looks off.

the only problem is the original halloween mask rot and is basically almost gone. The eyes have widened up, the mouth is gaping, the neck is ripping and alot of cracks

It's a blunder among all blunders cause just about all the rest of them aside from the new remakes like look trash. H20 had a decent one but the people in charge of that movie dropped the ball terribly. The mask is one of the first things you should settle on before production even begins...

They did it in H4, but they used a kirk that was made by Don Post that wasn't exact to a 75 kirk, it had ties to it though and it required more work with gluing mesh on the eyes and the neck extension since it was tiny on Wilbur and Tom Morga

I've been trying to get my head around why they just didn't do that when I learned that William Shatner didn't want his likeness used anymore. I don't know if that's true but it has to be, why else would every mask after H1 & H2 looke like crap? So fu, Shatner.

I agree. Hollywood can't replicate the simple iconography of Micheal Myer's Shatner mask or Jason's Part 3 Hockey Mask, because they try to hard with too many resources to make a "scary" mask. The mask doesn't make the character scary. The way the actor acts while one's face is concealed is what makes the mask iconic and scary. If you put too much thought into it, you lose the plot of what you're doing.

I got the Halloween kills mask and I hated it I’m going as Michael Myers for Halloween this time I’m gonna buy the William Shatner mask from trick-or-treat studios and make it myself.

@Craig J very good point, Craig. The sculpt and mask is pretty spot on with the 75 Kirk. Actually, this might be the best "blank" I have seen. This definitely makes a good canvas to work with.

There’s a difference between a costume that’s dependent on light and camera to pop, and masks that are made to look good under any lighting.

darkavengermanowar what Tommy did is not replicating anything, he only shows you how he done it back in the day. This mask does not come close to the hero mask at all, not even the eyecuts are accurate. What you called “experts” have study this mask, overall details, and weathering spots that they try to replicate in exact place. Creating something is easy, replicating something is a difficulty on its own. So if you for example buying a TOTS Kirk and do this on your own, I guarantee it won’t look the same because even in the movie, the mask constantly touched with dirty hands and rubbed all over masks including the eyes, cheeks and mostly the nose. And with this technique, it only rely on how good the base Kirk is not to mention this Kirk Tommy used in this video probably cost $500 far surpasses $59 TOTS Kirk

To be fair, the OG mask and that even stark white look to it only works because there were studio lights placed specifically to make the mask look more detailed and scary, considering it is a movie set. And cosplayers don't have studio lights following them around so painting shadows in (although is more tedious) looks better for boring, typical overhead indoor lighting.

I'm somewhat of a Perfectionist myself when it comes to Rehauling masks - that's why when people ask about the "subtle details" ... it's our Absolute Obligation to remind those people of Lighting Angles - Camera Quality - Stunt & Body Doubles - and the likelihood that there "COULD BE" MORE THAN 1 PROP FOR FILMING. Again, majority of cosplayers want everything to be "SCREEN ACCURATE" ... and THAT was IT.

They did for 4 technically, it was the same Kirk mask mold, they just cut the eye holes differently and never ripped off any of the hair and slicked it back, and plus the actor wearing the mask influences how it looks also.

Honestly I think he made them a little big because he messed with em too much.

For the original H1 mask, I believe it is streaks ‘n’ tips midnight black that was used.

And the paint rubbed off on the eyebrows,neck,nose,and mouth which reveals the flesh tone on the mask u see later on in the movie
