Time to revisit and rebuild a RGH 1.2! I originally built this RGH 1.2 console in 2017 for a few videos, but I didn't get much personal usage out of it. Upon hearing @Adam Koralik talk about region restrictions for the Xbox 360, I reached out to him and offered to donate this console as I'd rather see some good hardware get put to use as opposed to sitting around here. About 2 years and 1 quarantine later, Adam finally took a look at this system and discovered the DVD drive wouldn't detect any games! I offered to take a look at it and after talking further, we assembled a game plan to repair and upgrade the console. The following has been done to this console:
- Applications Updated
- Cleaned & Repasted
- Dashboard Updated
- DVD Drive Properly Flashed
- RGH 1.2 Install Redone
- SSD Upgrade to 1 TB
- Xbox Backwards Compatibility Updated & Whitelisted
After getting the console back rebuilt and upgraded, Adam delved fully into it and chronicled his adventures into Xbox 360 modding for the first time here!

The main reason we moved to other storage was capacity, and that's slowly becoming a non-issue. Solid State memory has a lot of benefits that I look forward to seeing taken advantage of once it becomes sufficiently commonplace. It's a shame that we'll probably never see the return of the cartridge proper since the rent-seekers are slowly boiling us in the water of digital-only software downloads.

@@JosephDavies mechanical hdd is still pretty much fast for PS2/OG Xbox/Xbox 360/Xbox One/PS3/PS4. Even budget gaming PC with hdd is fine for playing 6th/7th gen consoles and indie

This channel gave me inspiration to get back to modding xbox 360. Finally desired replace my ancient nand flasher that used printer port I think (early one) . Also learnt that not all phat 360 were prone to RROD from this channel and I plan replace my 360 RGH falcon that is slowly showing gpu failure with Jasper Kronos that failure rate is below 1%.

Those Rev C clones are getting pretty hard to come by these days. I've been using Matrix Glitchers but they kind of suck for Jasper BBs since they don't have have the cap bridge point which usually solves longer boot times :/

Just so you know isotropic alcohol works really good for cleaning off chips. Leaves no residue and it's probably cheaper than the Arctic cleaner solution you're using.

He’s right about the SSD Life. In this application it’s going to be doing 99% reads. SSDs take wear when writing not reading. So I would not be surprised if it lasted 20-30+ years easy.

just want to note, ssd's do actually get worn during reads, just not to the same extent as writes. The physical process of reading data from cells actually increases the leakage of nearby cells, so if data is read from the same area frequently enough, the controller has to extract the data from those other cells and rewrite them before they become unreadable. I know it's a little nit picky, but I've heard people say that often enough that I get worried someone is going to abuse the crap out of their SSD thinking it's has no effect, only to discover the horrible truth when it's too late.

@@jacob_90s Even with this, I still feel like the SSD may outlast the lifespan of the console itself. The GPU/CPU will die long before the SSD does, I'd say.

I don't even check the clock point by hana chip anymore. I have single handedly destroyed almost 8 working xboxes because of that one point. Since switching to an alt point every RGH I attempted has been successful. I appreciate the fact that modding is not a specific process, but a general set of instructions that must be completely changed from console to console. No 2 xboxes are the same.

Y'know, I have a May 2008 Falcon awaiting a RGH. Unfortunately 3.0 is the only thing I'm able to get in there (1.2s are extinct locally) but that won't stop me from going ahead and giving it a shot. Thanks for all those videos you've been putting out. Here's hope I can upgrade its aging 20GB HDD once I get the RGH secured in there. Already repasted and one of the controllers is a white front/black backside combo I put together.

in order to repaste the chip that do not have IHS, you better spread the thermal paste over the entire DIE, since the heat from the cpu/gpu is generated throughout the DIE, and this heat needs to be dissipated in the heatsink, if for some reason a tip of the DIE is missing thermal paste you risk losing the chip, now if the chip has an IHS this does not happen because the DIE is already transferring the heat to the IHS, I saw a video where the technician received a video card to repair that the video card stopped displaying an image as soon as it opened a game, when he disassembled the video card a part of the gpu's DIE was without thermal paste, he added more thermal paste and the graphics card returned to normal operation

I wish there was a local console modder in Arkansas so that I can get my personally desired mods done. Because the only modding services I see on eBay is the DCHDMI (now with the kit in stock) and the WiiDUAL (kit still not in stock). I already purchased a GBA with the IPS mod and it has the spongebob themed casing because well, I used GBA Movie Converter 1.50 to turn my specifically Dolby to SRS downmixed/downscaled movie of my Spongebob movie off of my DVD and I'm satisfied with the result, and the IPS GBA should looks even better.

Being introduced to your channel by Adsm's video, not sure how it went under my radar all this long :) I have a question I hope you can help me with: how can one burn an xbla game to a disc to play it on a 360 that plays backup? I remember doing it for one title years ago but am lost now, most of the tutorials I found recently are for rgh which doesn't describe how to do the conversion of xbla to iso. Thanks in advance

I'm still waiting for my 30 awg wire to arrive from amazon so I can finally finish modding my PSone, PS2 modbo chip, fix an rgh system and finally run wiring for some arcade machine buttons. I don't know if I have time to work on this, make a crap ton of mistakes, then have to fix those mistakes. Oh well.

Hey , Just picked up a 360 jasper , really mint condition and looking where to buy the RGH 1.2 MOD CHIP. Modding my PS3 was a breeze compared to this process. Keep seeing ACE V2,V3.V4,V5 chips and not sure what I should be buying.

It can definitely slow down once you throw a ton at it! If you see Adam's video, it takes well over a minute to access the games now due to all the hard drives he has hooked up to it.

If you go and watch weekend modders RGH 1.2 walkthrough stream on his channel, he’s got a really good wire route. Way better than the one you’re using in this video. I’ve had no issues with freezing or anything whatsoever using it.

I have some questions, as a newbie on hard-modded Xbox 360s. I have a JTAG/RGH'd white slim, and it 1) doesn't load up any og Xbox games; 2) I can't manage to make Aurora/Freestyle load on boot (I have to start freestyle from the xexmenu). What can I do to troubleshoot/fix these issues?

Hello! I'm curious about the temperatures. I have a Falcon Xbox 360, and the CPU temperature is usually between 55-60, and the GPU and memory always reach 75-80, do you think it's okay or is there a problem?

Correct, these consoles don't support TRIM. SSD still works, though.

I have installed an SSHD on a 2006 Celeron 900 laptop and installed a 128GB SSD on my current Tecra A11 laptop. So I've had experience with operating systems and installing nice little programs for the consumer user like Audacity. I guess I'm becoming a genius now, of course I am Retro Guru who studied tech for 3 years now. But I don't know about flashing things and I've certainly never built a computer in a chassis either, I just know how things go, but I can at least do half of what I know though. I have installed 2 SATA drives in laptops before and had experience with several operating systems including my favorite Windows 7, but consoles just plain scare me ok Mr. Mario. I have my uncle to help me with installing an SSHD to my original Xbox.

Nice video, i have an old jasper motherboard but my dvd died, i never got the dvd key from it so its just a brick. I dont know if its fixeable because to replace new dvd you need old ones key.

Looks like you had one of my old systems from back in the day I had a bunch of systems where I would change out the disk drive to a different system so basically the disk drive is not the same as the motherboard no matter what you do it's not going to work

what its the % of the fans that you set ? or are in automatic ? because im planning to set them in 70% with artic mx 2 for the termal paste, and i think that the heatsinkg of the gpu it should be replaced for another one

@@MrMario2011 Thanks man , i think you should increase the veolicty of the fans a little bit or at least the owner XD because the temps in idle to me are a little bit higher , i mean its just for keep that piece of history live for more time XD, i always think that i donk care too much if the fans eventually stop of working because that its more easy to replace after than the console itselft ,which to me its an small price to pay. I have an 360 slim which tjhe temps in idle are in 43º and a jasper that im planing to replace the heatsink of the gpu which are rellay bad for one of a pc maybe and adjust the fans at 70% likemy slim,. I have the luck of get an 360 arcade jasper when i was seeing the back the consume of 12.1v . Sorry for my bad english XD, thanks for resping ;D

@@SirQuacksalotthe1st This is kinda late, but for anyone reading this in present day the Jasper is the last revision of the Phat console. It has been proven to be the most reliable and even more reliable than the slims. There are a lot more dead slims at this point than dead Jaspers.

I'm thinking if you want to get into the 360 in 2020 stick with the slim. Yes there are fat jaspers which are great but I make it a rule to steer clear of the fats I'd feel awful if one failed after a few months.

I have one also, lad. I will get a 2TB Western Digital Solid State Drive also so you can do the same for me. Having all original Xbox and Xbox 360 games on this is a great idea. However, I start with all the original Xbox games as that option.

I rescued a xbox 360 arcade that some body threw out in the dumpster. All I had to was replace the drive belt on the dvd drive eject tray. Now it works like a brand new xbox 360. I think that's the reason it got thrown out because the last got frustrated with the disc eject not working correctly.

I just did that to a $12 Jasper from Goodwill. I used a known-good drive belt from an old LG drive from a desktop PC and it worked.

Very good vid! @Mario…or anyone who has experience: I just received an xbox360 core (saved from recycling). I found that is has a flashed disk drive, and official Microsoft HDD. Thing is that, I’d really like to run copies of classic xbox games (like Blinx) on it, but it would need an update to be backwards compatible, however if I update it, it will kill the disk drive flash. Question: is there a way to install compatibility files on the xbox from usb? Or if I take out the disk drive, update the xbox 360 system software, the reinsert the disk drive in the machine, would it keep the flash? Note: this 360 was banned from xbox live, so game update via internet is no option unfortunately.

If you never had I would always recommend it. Remember how old these consoles are, over a decade now.

@@MrMario2011 yeesh, it's not even a jasper, it's a Zephyr. Trying to RGH now, but the programmer just isn't "seeing" the chip or the xbox, Trying to follow your guide, but jrunner just won't detect either the console or the glitch chip. they look like same/similar variants to those used in your video

My DVD drive just stays open tray doesn't matter what game I use so I'm kinda stump no errors or anything just goes from reading to open tray
