Gears and pinion shifts are case hardened so do you heat treat it or just let it ride? Also a repair like this might be ok for a small car but for a big truck is just nuts. You must have one of those calibrated eyeballs to get the tolerances spot on.
I beg to differ to your comment. That blue spinning motor does the SAME job as a Oerlikon lapping machine. I'm impressed. LOL Have a great day, thanks for the laugh. BTW his eyball can detect variant as low as .0002, that's precision.
Well, I’m assuming that the gear is a 5 cut design? Regardless, the attempt is outstanding, but I already know what the results are going to be. A soft and noisy gear that will last hours not years. Perhaps if the gears never saw load on the drive side they would last in gear oil, but loaded no way.
Context is important, by the gearsets in the background this is not his first rodeo. One example is your stuck 5 hours from home. parts are a week away, for $2 and half a day get your truck home. He may also sell them in grades, for say a yard or farm truck. might last years on short trips. Economics dont lie. He wouldnt be in business if it didnt suit a purpose. By his skill hes done this many times.
I'm sure he carefully chose the welding rod to perfectly match the gear steel alloy. Lots of SAE 8620 for stick welding, right? And he definitely took that pinion to the back of the shop and re-carburized it in pack charcoal afterwards, didn't he?
Там электродом из неизвестного материала наварили поверхность, потом просто на наждаке "убрали лишнее". Какие там будут люфты, биения, износ одному их богу известно
What about the heat treatment and annealing process for the correct hardness so it does not break again, no testing, no idea what the material is hardened too. Unless with the proper hardness.
бред . без закалки наваренное сьест за пару десятков км. твердость надо 70 сделать закалить наваренный пластилин. эти шестерни твердость напильника имеют. напильник из никак не берет. а наваренный метал легко напильником можно стругать
Half assed repair all the way. Wrong metal in the welding rod (most likely), no heat treating afterwards, dimensions are surely off. Good enough to get their money and get the truck down the road 50 miles, no bring backs, no warranty.
