Hey Roma. I’d like to ask you some questions about your engines. I’ve got a 2H in my 75 series. Thinking about swapping it out one day with a 12 HT. Curious to know if there’s any difference between 12HT engines such that you cannot install it into a 75 series 1989
You shouldn't run into many hurdles at all going from a 2h to a 12ht. The engine block casting is the same so mounts are not an issue. Your biggest hurdle will be adapting the throttle linkage which is not a big deal. The 12ht will not have an EDIC like your 2h and the glow system is different as well but that is about the extent of it. Super simple. Most people do not hook up the heater grid on the 12ht (glow system) because it is simply not needed until WELL below freezing. You will only need to wire up the shutter solenoid on the 12ht and its two wires.
What's a new old stock 12h-t worth? I know a local shop that's gone bust a long time ago which specialised in Toyota Coaster busses. There are at least 2 unused 12h-t's in crates. I suspect there are more engines. Thanks in advance.
Thank you for getting back with me I don’t know if you do this for a hobby of for business but I am really interested on one of these engines I have a 1976FJ 40 that I would like to convert to diesel
Hi Luis. It's hard to give an accurate cost estimate. These engines used go for about about 5 to 6k here in the states and a rebuild can easily run that much as well. The last few I rebuilt I spent about 3k in parts and that didn't include any labor, turbo, or injection pump work. An injection pump rebuild can run north of 2k dollars and an upgraded turbo is about 1700. I hope that helps.
