I was considering one. Not anymore. Thanks guys for the genuine consumer information and sharing your personal experience. We’ve had 2 hyundais one was perfect, the other was a lemon. Not worth the risk…
@@jakes5530 It's maybe a second slower to 60? Still 231 combined hp and feels better on takeoff. Neither the regular ICE or hybrid are stoplight to stoplight dragcars, but fast enough for daily use as a family hauler.
Just to mention and add to the concern > I have the same faulty transmission with my 2023 Hyundai Santa fe. The dealership will take it back to replace the transmission. Inconvenient but at least they will repair the issue.
Hi @rog351. I just purchased s 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe. I bought it as a demo at a Hyundai dealership with 13,500km on it. I'm curious to know what kind of things did you notice that went bad. ? I reallly like to know so that I will keep an eye out for my Santa Fe for any issues. One thing I noticed...when I release the brake pedal from a standstill (in traffic) I notice a mild 'jerky' feel when coasting. Is that normal ? Other than that ... mine runs smooth ...but am still worried about this .
Which trim of the Santa Fe do you have - the Limited or Calligraphy? I was considering the 2021-2023 Santa Fe Limited & Calligraphy trims, but this DCT issue makes me a little bit nervous
I’d just left the dealership to get wheel locks. Stopped at the store across the street & with only 147 miles, my Santa Fe shut completely down. The salesperson came over & sat with me until the tow truck came. A few days later, the service dept called stating the transmission was shot. Considering the fact that my vehicle had 147 miles, the dealer offered to give me a new truck. I applaud them for that. My issue was I’d invested in paint protection film & tint because this was going to be my forever vehicle (so I thought). Hyundai will not compensate me for the protection or tint, so I still lost out big time. I never invest in paint protection, etc but as a newly retiree, I had faith in the Hyundai brand. This has been one of the most frustrating ordeals ever.
First - Santa Fe made you famous, guys! 10,000's of people who did not know about you are now watching your videos! :) Everyone on every platform is talking about you. Great job! Now, my very serious question - and concern: Hyundai stated that recalled vehicles produced AFTER April 24,2024 are affected. Your vehicle was produced some time in February, and I also purchased Santa Fe in early March after watching your stellar reviews. Mine was produced on Feb 14, 2024 and it is not on a Hyundai recall list. In your best guess and opinion - should I contact Hyundai and ask them to update my software? I have 2600 miles on it and I am about to start a very long road trip across the country. PLEASE HELP!
Thanks. We are honestly not sure why the recall cuts off just a few Santa Fe's that were built prior to April. Perhaps they will be covered under a slightly different recall in the future. As stated in the video, we think this issue provides a good explanation of what could have happened to ours, given our unique situation of repeating issues with the replacement transmission. No way to know for sure. But, if you're outside the window, just wait and see because a dealership isn't going to modify the software on VINs outside of the recalls purview.
Guys, thanks for bringing this issue to light. Within the next year or two, I am planning to change my vehicle. The new Santa Fe was at the top of my list. Despite Hyundai fixing this, it’s a Black eye. In writing this in the hopes that Hyundai Motor America reads this: Please stop with the Dual Clutch transmissions. They are not needed / wanted in this type of vehicle. You guys have a perfectly good 8 Speed Torque Converter Automatic that is in the new Tucson and can be put into this vehicle. Please use that one and I will reconsider my choice. Also, if the tow rating can be made 3,500 Lbs, I would not hesitate to buy this Model Santa Fe. Car Confections: Great job on the coverage.
I know Subaru has a bad reputation from their early CVT's, but the fact that all of their cars have the same 3 engines (2.0, 2.5 or 2.4T) and CVTs that have been around, and improved over the years, is actually a plus to me. Gradual updates over time, parts compatibility across models and consistency. I am curious to see how big the updates are to the 2025 Outback... they may introduce a new hybrid drivetrain as well.
I don't understand what they are thinking. They already had a transmission recall on the last generation with pretty much the same issues. I know because my 2021 Calligraphy had to have the entire transmission replaced. Why in the world did they not have this completely fixed for the new generation?! Boggles my mind. Worst part about it is that I loved my Sante Fe and wanted to buy it when my lease was up or get one of the new ones. I miss it everyday, but I can't trust the company now and the dealership in my town was also a nightmare to deal with. Hyundai get your act together!
@@LuisUrbieta *Chevrolet* has a dual clutch in their C8 and the vehicle has been issue free since its launch in 2020, including the 8-speed DCT. So it _has_ been done. You Korean apologist just like to make all kinds of excuses for supposedly “super reliable” Hyundai Motors.
It's a beautiful thing when it's engineered reliably and the operator is aware of how a DCT works differently from a torque converted autobox. It doesn't happen too often :)
They are considered "very proven" and durable - more so when they added the oil cooling to them. Audi were the ones who took a fairly well tested technology and moved it to more the mass (affordable) market.
All dual clutch transmissions are crap ,was selling Fords when the Focus POS transmission came to us i gave them back my FREE DEMO it had so much agitation, glad you were part of there reasons for the recall 😅
Our Mercedes has a 7-speed DCT, its a 2018 so 6 years old and no problems so far! Lasted longer than the 25 minutes the Hyundai's two transmissions lasted.
@@BoopSnoot Kia/Hyundai Motors’ fanboys are absolutely the most delusional group in the automotive industry. They’ll tell you their lineup is super reliable, as reliable as the best, point you to their warranty, and then make every excuse once the recalls are issued. Their DCT is crap, but the headline is ALL Dual-clutch transmissions are crap? How?? The high performance 2020 Corvette C8 has had a dual-clutch since it debuted. It’s now in its 5th model year without issues. It Certainly ain’t all dual clutch transmissions. 🙄
Hyundai doesn't know how to make transmissions. Why do they even bother with a dual-clutch system? It's not a freaking sports car, it's an ugly piece of garbage . Keep it simple.
@@DB-dh7hl Sir, you’re trying way too hard. You’re comparing a transmission that’s pushed on a racetrack to that of a family hauler that doesn’t survive in heavy traffic conditions, let alone a racetrack? You’re the deflecting S. Korean apologist that I’m talking about.
Unfortunately it’s not only the transmission. Engines are failing at an alarming rate as well. I bought a 2024 Palisade top trim and within 2500 miles the CAN bus went bust disabling the power steering and AC. Then I noticed it had consumed over a quart of engine oil. It has been at the dealer for weeks now. No loaner. I am hoping for a buy back as I am learning the warranty is terrible since they delay and deny.
I have a 2021 Santa Fe Calligraphy. It has had 2 recalls for transmission updates. That was about 6 months ago. One month ago I was driving it and felt a slight power loss then a message came up on the infotainment screen showing a DCT problem code and had a check mark next to it. Then the engine light came on. Immediately I took it to the Hyundai dealer in my town. They had it overnight then called the next day and said come get it. The service rep said they couldn't find a problem and said it was probably a hick-up in the system. Took it and drove it without any problems until two weeks ago it did it again. Took it back to the dealer. Again they had it for two days then called and said they were told to replace the transmission oil pump by the Hyundai higher up techs referencing some service technical bulletin.. Sometimes I have also heard a slight grinding noise when taking off from a stop. They gave me a loaner as this was a warranty issue. Today They told me it would be another ten days before the part arrives and gave me an extension on the loaner. Hyundai has been good about dealing with my situation. I hope the pump is the issue. If not I'm looking to trade it in for a Toyota. I do not care for these DCT's at all and will never buy a vehicle with a CVT. The loaner they gave me is a 2024 Tuscon and it has regular 8 speed transmission and seems to do well. I just want my own vehicle back and hope it's fixed. Very frustrated.
I feel like Hyundai should have thoroughly tested and inspected this transmission BEFORE they put it into production. This is another example of a car company using their customers to test a new model car. 😡
That's kind of like saying why didn't they know about the future. Would you say that for ALL car brands that have recalls (which is literally all brands)? There are always limitations when it comes to testing, especially software. I am a software engineer and if all tests were perfect, there wouldn't be any need for recalls in the first place for ANY brand, not just Hyundai.
Is it just me or is there some serious quality control issues with these newer vehicles? Toyota replacing motors, Hyundai replacing transmissions, GM having tons of fuel pump module failures, and who knows how many more issues...Ford had a record number of recalls last year. Guess im sticking with my old vehicles for now. Hope they can get back to making quality vehicles again soon. All of this is bad enough, then you consider what they are charging for these things now and it really is shameful.
Bought the SEL AWD Hybrid at the beginning of the month. Had it less than a week and the gas engine gives off a tick when operational. Has been at the dealership for longer than I’ve had it in my possession and have had trouble getting answers from service department (ie. they don’t know what’s wrong either).
I REALLY hope Hyundai CHANGES the transmission to a traditional 6 or 8 speed single clutch auto because I REALLY like the redesigned Santa Fe but don't want the trans issues
When this vehicle was launched and they said it had a DCT, the first thing I said was why. It's not a sports car. That's the wrong transmission to put in a vehicle like this. Also, these types of transmissions are known to have issues and can become quite costly to maintain and repair. It made zero sense to use this transmission. They have perfectly good 6 and 8 speed conventional automatics that would have been better suited to this class of vehicle and would also have been more reliable (in the short and long term). The person who spec'd this transmission in this vehicle should be fired, as should the manager who approved the decision.
I couldn’t have said it better, I AGREE with everything you wrote. WHY put a DCT in a family SUV !!!! WHY, the lead engineer that signed off on that decision should be fired !!!! YESTERDAY !!!!
We bought a 2024 Santa Fe XRT. We were at 300 miles and boom. Transmission blew out of nowhere. You couldn’t put it in park or drive or anything. Hyundai said we have to wait 30 business days to fall under lemon law. We paid cash for the vehicle. It’s been over 30 days. It’s horrible.
I watched with interest your first 2 videos on the 24 Santa Fe as we were looking closely at them. I really liked the vehicle but before buying I wanted to drive the Palisade as well. I too was leery about buying a first year car as I had made one mistake in the early 80s with a Datsun 200 SX (front end shake between 45 and 50). So I ended up with the Palisade. Great vehicle. Thanks guys will recommend you to all my car guy friends.
Mine went in for a recall...found out that the transmission was leaking because of like you said it damaged itself...they put us in a 2025 santa fe and it has the same issues...it clunked when moving in reverse. I would not recommend any new santa fe's with the DCT transmission...they are junk...should have never gotten away from a torque convertor type transmission...especially in an suv
Why would they do it for other models if they already have the updated software!?! Only the 12K vehicles are recalled because those are the models with the bad software
The warranty is finicky as hell. Easily voidable, you gotta read the fine print. Nothing but a marketing stunt that I must admit has worked on many Americans.
My mom's Hyundai Venue had to have the transmission replaced within the 1st few months. Now this! I was really looking forward to checking this out since it looks so much like the Range Rovers. Might have to reconsider!
I bought a '24 Santa Fe XRT. I commented on a previous video saying, I hadn't had any issues with the first couple thousand miles. However, that is no longer the case. I can hear the transmission struggle and the infotainment screen seems to have a loose connection. It will sometimes not even turn on until I hit the screen.
Yeah - my sister literally had mostly signed the paperwork; she just had to do the financing documents and after she signed that they came back and said the transmission failed their testing under the recall that came out literally that morning. So they took the car away and gave her a Palisade demo for the time being while they wait for when a new transmission will come in - it is looking to be a few months - although they hope a faster production and shipping can take place. They said they having been speaking to Hyundai on various options - we do not get higher models in the hybrid here - Preferred is it (SEL in States I think) - so not an exact match but maybe all she needs - the dual-tone camel interior did look fantastic though.
Man I hate to hear this for you guys. Watching you videos made me decide to buy it, and I have put 8500 miles on it in 5 months! Absolutely love the car.
I have a 2020 Sorento 3.3 8 spd auto and love it.2021 Sorento's went turbo and dual clutch autos and had lots of problems and a huge recall .Now the 2024 Santa Fe, with the same problems.Told everyone dual clutch was going to be nothing buy problems and thats how it turned out.Should,ve stuck with a proven 8 spd auto.
The dealerships are going to default to the software update as being the fix and then down the road deny any claims of transmission damage because there is no profit in replacing the transmission under warranty. It is not an excellent SUV if the transmission fails not once - it fails twice. I believe Hyundai sees a grove full of time bomb lemons and they want nothing to do with it and will wait out the car buying public's tendency to be distracted by shiny new features.
Our 1 month old 2024 Santa Fe was towed in yesterday for a failure of their new transmission shift mechanism and will be sitting until Hyundai comes out with a fix according to the dealer.
I think this is a system wide problem with every car manufacturer with software dealerships. need to update these software when they get these car's deliverer. If I'm buying a car from a dealership, I would kindly ask. Did they update all the software in the car?
Guys, There seems to be a problem with the reports on this: it is showing vehicles in production after your purchase and mine. Can you possibly explain.
@@tarahildebran1226 it seems Hyundai isn’t being truthful and fully transparent about the scale of this defect. They’re cutting out potentially affected models, that’s a sign of them backing out of the recall which means it was only issued to get NHTSA off their butts. But when actual affected customers come in for service, they’ll begin to ask for them to pull out their wallets for complete repairs before revoking the “free transmission replacement” altogether. It’s a 100% affect rate, they will lose money on every single one they sell that’s affected. They’re trying to lessen the blow for them, which will ultimately lead to increased costs for their customers.
Thanks guys for talking more that the interior and the beauty of the car which every RU-vid does with new cars but the issues of all those NEW cars come with... I haven't seen any other car reviews talking about any faulty issues... why? I found 1000s of recalls about other hyundai cars but nothing about Santa Fe apart of yours... from Australia, I am about to buy a new Santa Fe Hybrid...so, I don't know if I should risk having more migraines than I already have... *** NOW... did you get your money back? can you talk more about the mechanical part? what should or shouldn't do with a hybrid or electrical car? Is it easy to remove the spare tyre from under on those SUV cars?... a new car looks and feels like a new car so... what else?... Keep us posted
I just got mine, manufacture dated 7/17/24 so hopefully i Wont see any issues. So far I am loving the car at 300 miles lol. its an amazing car otherwise.
I am going through the same issue and Hyundai said they are going to buy back my car. I am just waiting for the finance specialist to call me back with the details. Did they buy it back for full price?
Mine had 842 miles on it when, on start up, over pressure blew a hole out of the top of the transmission. They will be buying it back in 10 days (Per Illinois lemon law).
My take is all this is due to a Quality Control problem at the factory... seems more problems have occurred since opening the factory here. The ones coming out of Korea seem to have have much less issues or much less major issues with their vehicles.
What Hyundai/Kia needs is a solid reliable product line up. Even if they can make one today it takes years to regain customer confidence and bring them back to the fold. Instead they are trying to lure customers with radically new designs and upgraded technology which sits on a shaky ground. They change the design of their cars like a fancy dress competition and these cars don’t age gracefully.
They've had DCT issues in the past. I've owned several Hyundais going back to 1998 all with Auto trannys. I currently own a 22 Santa Fe Hybrid Blue, 34k miles. I would "never" own a DCT from Hyundai or Kia.
I bought my 2024 Santa Fe calligraphy June 17 and took it in to the dealership for transmission issue on July 22. I’m still waiting. The loner I have is a 2024 SEL Santa Fe.
@pastorkennethknox6168 oh 🙅♀️, hopefully, the dealership is working on a fix with the tech side. I really love all the bells & whistles in my limited.
And do people really think that CVT or even e-CVT gearboxes are not good :D It has been problem for many many manufacturers using dual clutch or sophisticated high gear count automatic gearboxes. Some took many generations to fix problems yet still there are many of them that fail ether before 100k or shortly after depending the driving style. This should be alarm for biggest SUV's if they use DCT that hits gearbox really hard
According to the defect report filed with the NHTSA, affected 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe models were built at its Alabama assembly plant between April 23, 2024 and July 2, 2024. Obviousky your hyundai was built before so it maybe other serious issues
Well unfortunately my 2024 Santa Fe calligraphy has been in the shop now for 2 weeks with a hole in the transmission case from this same problem?? What to do as an owner ? I’m really on the fence about the transmission replacement? Any info is appreciated thanks
If you loved tehe car, why didn't you get a hybrid, or a new Santa Fe produced after July 2, 2024. I'm still very interested in purchasing one. I was wondering why I've only seen 2 on the road since I test drove it around 3 months ago. Thanks for the update!
Hi! I’m from the DMV Area and while I don’t own a Santa Fe myself, I see plenty of the new ones here. If it helps, it definitely is a vehicle that has a great price. While I obviously don’t have much of an insane opinion since I don’t own one, I highly would recommend still checking it out. I have a 22 telluride and would love getting a Santa Fe when the time comes. Best regards to you! If I were you I’d also recommend looking into the hybrid versions… a little bit more of a price tag but definetly worth it.
Never buy a Hyundai period. My son's 2013 Veloster has had an unusually large number of recalls. Back in 2002 I bought a 2002 Santa Fe. The transmission was defective before even driving it off the lot. The dealer had to upgrade me to a higher model for the same price to keep me from tubing the deal and walking off the lot. That vehicle also had a fair number of issues including defective clear coat finish that had to be corrected by a body shop. The transmission on that vehicle bit the dust at 86K miles and was replaced under the 10 year/100K warranty. I sold the car shortly after that. No more Hyudais for me.
Hi Guys! I have a question...i test drove an SEL Santa fe and requested a dealer to give me a manufacturing date for it. This is was he said: The mfr date is on 4-19-24. But the recall dates for the trans mission was for Santa Fe that was Mfr from 4-23-24 through 7-02-2024 so the one that you just drove will be perfect for you because it wasn't part of that recall on the Santa Fe's. Does this make sense? You car was manufactured before April 23 but still had that problem. Please give me your feedback! Thank you!!
Given our experience, I would recommend looking for one built after July 2nd because there are definitely Santa Fe's before April 23 that have had issues (ours included)
@CarConfections Thank you for your answer! I totally agree and do not understand why the recall only covers Santa Fes made after April 23rd.. I am also looking and considering Chevy Traverse LT. No recalls on them. What would you say if to compare with Santa Fe? Thank you!!
@CarConfections I am coming from Honda Pilot so it felt really comfortable to drive Traverse. LT is really not that much more than Santa Fe. What about just Chevy SUV reliability average? Would you get one?
We bought one, had the issue @1,500 miles, they replaced the clutch pack less than a week, it has been working correctly every since. Wouldn't stop me from buying one. Just think, if this was Ford it would still be there waiting for parts. Buy the Hyundai.
Have a 22 Calligraphy with only 11,000 miles and are worried that it might have a problem someday. Was wondering if this software update on the 2024 is also warranted on my 22? Right now I love my 22.
I have a 2023 Santa Fe Calligraphy with the DCT transmission. Do you know if this recall applies to the 2023 models as well since I believe it’s the same transmission? I personally have not had any issues with it so far, after about 11000 miles of use.
