The Phillies’ season of enormous World Series-or-bust expectations ended on Wednesday night in New York with a 4-1 loss to the Mets in Game 4 of the NL Division Series.
“Just feel like you failed,” Trea Turner said. “I think we had a fun season, we made some good memories and whatnot, but when it comes to winning a World Series, it feels like kind of a failure.”
It was a crushing loss, but perhaps not a surprising one.
The Phillies were baseball’s best team through early June, but played .500 the rest of the way. Something needs to be done to get this team over the hump. But what? Ruben, Jim and Todd talk about what went wrong and what needs to happen in the offseason.

Nice channel guys! At 13:13 Yes, I think I know Jazz Chisholm. I am a Yankees fan. Ha-ha. Jazz is a bit much with the mouth but if he backs it up with the bat it's ok. Hope the Yankees go all the way. Easier road to the World series for the Yankees because they did not have to face the Orioles or the Astros who usually beat them. We will see who comes out on top. Only time will tell. The Phillies had a great season. I am surprised the Mets beat them. Many predicters thought the Phillies would win the World Series. That's why you have to play the games. Every team in the post season has a shot. Phillies still are a good team but have to build good players around Bryce Harper.

You know the old baseball adage and no team is as good as it looks when it's winning and not as bad as it looks when it's losing. I said it all along that the Phillies peaked way too early, and they built their lead on beating the lousy teams which is fine because you can only play who's in front of you. Happened to the Mets when they won 101 games 2 years ago. The Mets had the tougher schedule play for the first two months of the season, and they had a tough road at the end of the season. A road that went through Philly , milwaukee, and atlanta.

Juan Soto is not going to Philly. Look at your payroll sheet. He's staying in New York, either with the Yankees or going to the Mets. Given current team assets, payrolls, it makes most sense he goes to Mets

As a bleed blue and orange die hard Mets fan,I have mixed feelings about our Mets getting Soto. He is essentially a DH. But man,what a fine hitter he is. He would help any lineup he goes to. LGM💙🧡.

@@miguel.ledesmaledesma1790 I think calling him a DH is pretty harsh. And since Marte's double groin surgery he hasn't exactly been a plus out there. A mix of Marte's bat and fielding, and Soto's bat and fielding, I'm taking Soto all day. He's also still like 25 which I think a lot of people keep forgetting. He's always mashed at Citi. And if we do put him at games at DH, ok. Not like we have a DH. Barring those very specific plays of charging and throwing to plate Vientos' defense has wildly improved

@@miguel.ledesmaledesma1790 I'm not all that jazzed about Soto coming to the Mets. If it works out ... okay. He's a great player. But I don't know if I want to see a huge amount of payroll invested in one guy on top of Lindor. And it just doesn't seem like a "Stearns move" to invest a huge amount into one guy. He made these Mets into improbably heroes by establishing depth and breadth in the line up, rotation, and bull pen. I don't know how Soto fits in that formula. So, I've kind of forgotten about Soto. I guess we'll see what happens. I'm more interested in the Mets re-signing Manaea and Alonso. And maybe bringing in someone like Burnes.

They were a different team after the All-Star break. Hitting and the bullpen broke down in the second half and they never fixed either. Aside from Walker (who is an absolute mess), the starting pitching was the only thing that worked for the most part. On a side note, I'm convinced that Bryce not taking time off and playing scuffed all season didn't help the team in the long run. He was vulnerable and teams didn't have to pitch around him. That hurts the hitters around him too. I'm so sick right now. I really thought this was our year.

Braves fans are still the only ones blaming the format. The Phillies weren't playing well for a long time before the Postseason even started. It's not the format. The Phillies just can't hit consistently.

It was unnecessary for you to introduce yourself as a Braves fan it’s obvious. Was the layoff the reason Acuna didn’t backup his teammate on JT’s inside the parker? Was the layoff the reason the Phillies continued their free-swinging ways? For anyone who watched the Phillies on a regular basis over the past 3 months cannot be surprised the series ended the way it did. You can say the players secretly believe it was layoff but even this podcast doesn’t even mention it as a reason. The Braves said it twice because they lack accountability and are a loser organization and their fans are just as disillusioned.

This team is not built for a long postseason run, they’re just HRs or bust. They don’t work the counts, don’t put the ball in play, don’t use the opposite side at all, don’t adjust through the game, don’t play small ball. Now Turner whining about how hard batting is….Get the f…k out of here. Dude you’re getting paid $300mil, figure it out!

Spot on, this is the manager's job. You have to know what makes your players tick and push the right buttons. Sometimes that means instructing your players on an offensive game plan. You can make them take pitches and work counts if they aren't doing it themselves. You can instruct them to get the sure out to stop a bleeding inning.

As they were faltering down the stretch this happening for a second straight year was always in the back of my mind, but it was not until that week in Milwaukee/New York where they struckout over 80 times (I think?) in those 7 games did the alarm bells really go off for me. Hopefully Andrew Painter can get through the Fall League and Spring Training without issue. I'd slot him in as maybe the #3 (or the #4) to start the season. I think you have to move on from Bohm & Marsh, I haven't looked at the impending FA list or even trade candidates but to me I think they need a vet bridge 3B with some pop who can play until Aidan Miller is ready in a a couple of years.

Your only holes are CF and 5th starter. You are set everywhere else, unfortunately, due to contracts. You are stuck with this recipe through the end of next season. Then some of the contracts expire.

the biggest shame isnt the team, they are millionaires. i cant bring myself to feel bad for any millionaire ever. sour grapes? maybe. the shame is how much the fans turned it up for this squad. our crowd alone has a few wins this passed season. enough cant be said for the fanfare. this is an aging team and they were simply gassed by half season point. this team missed their last opportunity to bring home a ring. the squad as we know them are done.

Maybe you need guys with swagger? You have two bona fide assholes on your team. Like your partner said, Harper is one of those. That's why you brought him here. Casty is another. But he's more likeable. You left your swagger in London Harper went into his soccer slide. That looked like an asshole move to me. You had three bona fide met killers. JT was invisible and TT was right behind him. What you need is a much better bench. No one on your bench scares anybody.
