Considering how stacked the Seattle junior team was with high-end talent, the pure domination of the Quebec Remparts stands as a testament to the quality coaching staff of Patrick Roy, Simon Gagne and Patrick Desrosiers. A really impressive feat of a total team effort. You can see how years of experience in high pressure situations favoured Quebec in how they absolutely controlled the flow of play from start to finish.

Cool little fact about Quebec. Despite being 2006 Mem Cup champs this is actually the first time since 1976 they won the QMJHL title. Also becoming the first non host team to win a Memorial Cup despite not being a league Champion.

Patrick Roy is a phenomenal coach, i still give him a ton of the credit for the Avs turning around regardless of how it ended. Also i laughed way too hard at the Francois Bettman joke lol
@bookworm3283
@bookworm3283 Год назад
The Avs were struggling hard until Roy was gone. As soon as Bednar had a full off season to implement his system with Sakic loading up on talent, they took off. It was Sakic and Bednar who turned the Avs around. Roy was a major part of the problem.
@RIPJimmyA7X
@RIPJimmyA7X Год назад
@Bookworm Sacco was a major part of the problem, when Roy came in the fire and competitiveness came back, they won 50 games his first year despite not having 50 win talent and then his next 2 years they just missed out on that 8 seed twice. Getting Bednar hired in so late into the off-season is the only reason they had such a bad year in 17, that wasn't Roy's fault or anyone else's it was just flukey. The next year Bednar took the base that Roy started and got them in the playoffs, then when they got talent on the backend they exploded. Roy started the culture shift and Bednar just took it to new heights
@bookworm3283
@bookworm3283 Год назад
@RIPJimmyA7X I feel like you're forgetting some stuff. Nobody said Sacco wasn't a problem, but clearly Roy wasn't the solution. Sacco had his that could win, and he just sucked as a coach. Roy came in and had those guys and did great, but then started trying to change the team to an old school style of hockey that doesn't work anymore and everything went down hill. The thing that made them explode and start winning and being competitive was the Duchene trade which was Sakic's masterpiece. Got some great talent, but more importantly, it cleared the way for MacKinnon to take the reigns and move into his super star status. Roy leaving when he did was absolutely Roy's fault. He didn't get his way and so he walked out on the team at a really inopportune time and they suffered for it. Fortunately they picked up Bednar and believed in him past that first impossible season.
