Receding Hairline: Which Guard Buzz Cut Looks the Best? You Decide! 

I just wanted to say thanks for this video, because there aren't a lot of visual representations of all-over one-length buzz cut levels. I'm planning to shave my head eventually, and it's nice to see how drastic each level is!

He could have filmed this video a lot quicker if he started on a 4 and wend down to a 1. Just saying.

I vote for the #1---very neat and clean look. And in a week, it's a # 1.5....

definitely the 1.5 got my first buzz last summer (#2) and I'm gonna get one today with a 1.5.

Its a simple choice for me personally...number 1 or number 2. OR I can have a mix of both...1 on the sides and back and 2 on top. Since I have a balding crown as well...anything higher than a 1 or a 2 shows the bald patch at the back up clearly. At 26 years old it is my worst feature by a mile and I absolutely hate it lol but the way I look at it is, you can choose a lot of things...your weight, your smile, your style, your clothes, but you can't choose your hairline. Same goes for all the guys out there with swarve hairstyles and thick wavy hair...its the luck of the draw. Nothing else. Down to how you take care and make the best of what you've got.

A #4 with a fade on the sides i think would look really good

Hands Down number 3 because anything lower leaves you with a dark noticeable outline around your head. Your number 3 looks the most natural. NO on 4 for you as well.

I just got a buzzcut last week for the first time in my life, I went for 3mm, it looks fantastic and feels incredible in hot summer !

Did my first buzz cut in my life at 39 years old. A number 4 on top with skin fade on the sides. My thin hair made the number 4 look balding unlike texture finish.

I vote 1 only summer and 1.5 for fall, winter, and spring.

I'd go with #4 (0.5") everywhere, because I usually go to the hair salon quarterly (every 3 months), and it looks best especially for me.

Number 2 for me.. with a stubble of course.

Nick you have my sympathy I’m losing my hair too just keep it short. I’m using pepper mint roller. Biotin shampoo. A couple of products to cover up the bald spots. And. Hair skin nails vitamin. I’m going to start. Finastride plus rogaine minoxidil. Soon. I just buzzed my hair off. Last Friday. Now I’m letting it grow. More. Take care nick.

the longer guards look kind of messy. I think the #1 looks awesome in you. Maybe you can try no guard and shaved head too.

number 2 is my fav. it looks the darkest while still looking tidy . the beard helps too. if i were you i'd do a 2 every morning or a 1.5 every night before bed . 3 doesn't look bad either but it's starting to get a little messy so you could probably go a day or two in between .

This is a great video. There's plenty of buzz cut videos but this is helpful to show the difference between each. I've got receding hairline and thinking on top and I'm thinking about getting a buzz cut. Any of them look fine. Obviously hair grows between cuts. If you get a 2 it probably looks like a 3 in one week.

Either 2 or 4. 2 looks cleaner maybe a little better with that hairline but 4 still looks good

Everyone here talking about how good the #2 looks lol. I personally hate any noticeable signs that I have thinning hair, so I personally do a #1 guard and a 0.5 guard neck taper/fade on my neck and sideburns of my beard. I also do a 0.5 guard on my scruff but only because as a young guy, my beard is still pretty patchy. Once I lose some more hair (I've noticed with every good dip in my hairline is a boost in my facial hair, DHT I guess), I'll do a 1 guard on my beard and fade it into the 0.5 and back to 1 on my hair. I love it, and it's pretty easy to do once you learn the lever on your clipper. I used to do the #1 guard all-around, but I hated how when it got longer to a #2ish, my head just looks fuzzy. My hair is a medium brown so I think your darker hair does a better job at not looking fuzzy at a #2 than mine. The taper from a 0.5 on my neck and sideburns is how I get maybe an extra few days out of my haircut before I feel the need to groom it again. Everyone here says that they like the #2 since it's dark enough to not see the skin as much, but I personally kinda dig the bit of scalp showing through. I mean. I am going bald. Might as well get used to seeing what my scalp looks like.

Watched this video this morning and decided to get a #4 on top and #2 sides buzz cut this afternoon. Have a bad receding hairline and a bald spot starting to form on the crown... Man do I regret watching this video, and doing it

Winter : number 2 Summer: number 1 or shorter; possibly shaved. Stubble beard suits you well too. You should keep it or even try to grow a beard. The less hair you will have on the top of your head, the shorter you will have to go. You should also try to stop buzzcuts with clippers and try headshaves with lather and blade : at the beginning, shave once a month, then more and more often. Being headshaved by somebody else is very enjoyable (a good barber with shaving brush, lather and straight razor - or at least with shaving foam and standard razor by a friend or a family member).

4 with a gradual skin fade

Maybe 3 it is not too short not too long I'm still deciding between 3 and 4.

I use number two guard, but on a Braun clipper it's the 5 (starts from 3). Guess it's the same tho. Love the clean feeling

My vote is any of those numbers looks good but you need to get a high fade. Not the same number all around. My opinion.

Liked the 1.5 best on you. Usually for me the shorter the better I like it, but I think # 1 seemed a bit extreme. Though as was suggested below you could go without any guard and take it ALL off. # 4 you needed a haircut! Lol

Hello. My name is Adam and I am 16. I have noticed my hairline receding about 3 months ago, maybe closer to 4. This has caused me a great deal of stress. Although I am fairly outgoing I am extremely self conscious. This mainly concerns me not only because it has gotten worse extremely fast but i also look far too young to be losing my hair. I am extremely physically immature, cannot grow a beard. I may be 16, about to be 17 but I look around 14-15. All though male pattern baldness is genetic, there are no cases of it in my family, so I don't feel like there's anyone I can talk to about it. I don't understand why this is happening to me, I've done extensive research in my family and through old photos and I have yet to find anyone else with any balding under the age of 40. Over the summer I took the acne drug accutane. I took it for about 5 months, and I started noticing my hair loss about a month after I stopped. I've read that this drug can cause hair loss but I'm not sure how credible that is. If you could offer me any sort of feed back, advice comments, or even questions I would appreciate it. I really feel as if I am on my own with this and do not know how to handle it.

When buzz cut evenly my head,my favorite is the no.2 guard. I clip my hair every 15 days to keep it trim and shave too. I only have a receding hairline so im not going bald yet. I dont like the shaved head look and no.1 & no. 1.5 seems close to it,so I prefer the no.2 guard,tnx

I usually get a number 3 on top and a 2 on the sides, I really like it this way. I have a few small bumps on my head and I was wondering if I could go to a number 2 on top without cutting myself and would the bumps be noticeable? My skin is very light and the bumps are pretty dark red and black.
