A big thanks to all the unsung heros for writing all this software. And another thanks to you for showing how it all works!

Great overview! Simplest explanation I've found so far.

I've had a portable camera tripod mounted AzEl antenna rotator project on the back burner for yeears. It's one of those projects that got serious and then life happened and it was shelved. This video may prompt me to dig into the box of stuff this weekend and see what I can do. That said, if you're interesting in building your own, one of the best projects is the K3NG Arduino Rotator Controller. It's open-source and still under active development.

Glad to hear that you are using a dual band vertical antenna for Green Cube! That encourages many of us who have limitations in using Yagi with el-az rotators! I have asked my friend living at high altitude and already having an excellent dual band antenna. I am not yet ready as I have only a single band VHF vertical antenna, though I have been lucky to work a few local stations with it on ARISS, Tevel 7 and Tevel 3.

Thanks for all the info. Great video! I found a great resource while researching for my own SDR project. The US Naval Observatory website has links publications and software for all sorts of satellite communications, radio astronomy . There’s software on the that will allow a person to access data from the VLA. On the website is a link to the UK equivalent, though right now, the site is down for maintenance. I think everyone will find it to be an excellent source for information for those into radio, electronics, computer science. Thanks for the video!!

I just started tracking sats and listening to them with my Icom 818 transciever. I ordered an Arrow antenna for better results. The ANT-Runner el/az tracker is on my list. Good VHF/UHF transcievers to hook to computers are rare. I had the Icom IC-7100, which was great for this. I am shopping for a replacement. The Icom IC-9700 is at the top of my list. I love Gpredict and have it running all of the time.

If you are a Python nerd, it's fairly simple to use pyEphem.... Both for satellites (after importing TLE) and stars/planets.

Im watching the heck out of your vids. On a fixed income, if that changes, Ill hit you up with a donation as your videos are well made and well presented. Good work. Thank you. Im registering for the Swiss HB3 and am in my local Amature Club but I have to take it in French making it all the more difficult. I ordered a cheap handheld but the BAsKOM was nice snd i understand their policy reasons for banning the phones but being a Barrister (Lawyer so Solicitor and Barrister combined) plus was nominated and had five years of no complaints or errors and a current member must certify you have the ability and skill to practice in the US Supreme Court (so I guess that would be Americans version of Q.C.). But, every single one of the people in my club and everybody that I know that has a license is an electrical engineer or radio signal engineer - a harder test and not in my native tongue. It would have been cool for their to be national tests (albeit more expensive but to osy them snd the target country) for tests through the ITU in all languages of the United Nations. But, I am just having test anxiety. But ive built your V for NOAA (who I did a yesr long internship with as a teen at the NWS and on their AFOS (likely now antiqued national network and unique OS with tape backups), I learned how to use it and could pull up all the global images on CRTs 😅😊😂! I also made the half hourly radio message on the weather radio and pushed out emergency weather notices, activating all the auto radios. They had s script in the Radio room and you would fill in the blanks. Its now sll automated with a voice of someone or simulated. This is (Call Sign) the national weather service office at Bluegrass Field (an airport) operating on (the Frequency) with the (time/date) conditions and forecasts. Or (Issuing a Severe Weather (Warning or Watch) (Tornado Watch or Warning) (snd all thr other possible combos). The only other comms Ive been able to transmit on were marine (Im a PADI Open Water Diving Instructor) and was on boats a lot. I am really interested in Q0100 and will build out the helix/lnb you showed but will make a homemade rectangular parabola dish as I kind of need to disguise it as "dishes" are in my lease and a rectangle is not a "dish" 😅😂🎉! See I am a "lawyer" 😊! But I won't leave it out and I only use it for when I contact satellite but the Helix with the Ellen be inserted in the middle is really interesting design I think it's cool and I'm making the patch that you made right now I actually had already bought those same radio sounds with the qfh GPS antenna and I was getting ready to mount it to a piece of coax with an SMA. I wonder if you could combine the patch with the qfh and the directly linked them together to feed signal in at the same time? Do you think that that would give you any kind of added benefit? Anyway I also too would like a motor and being able to aim it I think I can do it with my go-to telescope Mount because it attaches to the computer and apparently you can program in the satellite passes from what I understand and have watched a little of I have my camera attached to it now because my telescope is so awful. But I have a full-frame Canon were there really long 600 mm telescopic lens. The thing is so heavy on the lens side have to counterweight the back as the motors on this cheap mount aren't that great so I have to like balance the thing pretty well. Thanks so much for your help with the software and the antennas I found your channel to be one of the best as far as really helping me understand and describing everything that I need to do to like pick up and decode the signals a lot easier than anybody else has explained it on the internet so really hats off to you! Cheers Mate! I spent about a year-and-a-half diving with Britt's in the Philippines and the owner of the shop where the British former merchant Marine he's actually the consular official for the island that he's on cuz you know you just don't have there so many islands there so whenever a British gets arrested there he goes as the consular official to see them in jail. He also is a member and I guess we were too because we were all technical divers and I was a recreational instructor but then I did for myself technical diving and that was all for me personally and I did it all through his shop so we are friends and he's a great guy but he's part of the Philippine auxiliary Coast guard. So when there's a hurricaneor a cyclone and not part of the world which there are a lot of all of his boats from the shop become part of the Philippine Coast guard and we would go out and look for people in need of assistance. All their boats are made from plywood and bamboo and an interesting weave of old monoline filament which they hold the outriggers onto the boat with. They power these boats with surplus engines that they rebuild from Japan and they leave the transmission in there and steering wheel and that use 3rd gear and they use reverse. They are called Banka and are the most cool pieces of recycling and reuse I have ever seen that is the public transport system for all of the Philippines and everybody uses them they're like taxis they can be really big like a bus or they could be really small and the kids put like two stroke engines on them and like ride him like surfboards. But they could really use some some shortwave down there it'll be really cool the bring him down and set up and see if I can get him licensed down there cuz they have so many like telecommunications outages and brownouts and they they go off-grid all the time and the internet runs at about dial up US Robotics Speed. You know some Laura Wang GPS units on those boats would be really helpful tracking and rescue tracking and rescue because they're so cheap and you can link them together with meshtastic and the line of sight on the water would be really far. I should send him a bunch of those with the built-in battery and the GPS on top so you can just hook to the top of its boats could put an antenna on the top of his shop and know exactly where all his both so I'll be able to send a messages and stuff. I mean they cost absolutely very little and it could be very helpful in an emergency which due to the weather is not uncommon. There are so many British down there and they all were working either like a more offshore oil stuffing and they can't come home for some reason they just they just probably can't handle the weather.

Look for 2nd hand rotators and elevators that use AC motors and a pot for feedback. Piss easy to then interface to an arduino running K3NG with a couple of relays. Beware you need a bit of heft to start moving a couple of yagis around. Thanks for the video - its footprint is huge so passes last a long time

Yeah but they said they'd give me the the cheap radio handheld if I passed the test in one year so they're being kind of cool with me. The tests they ran on it H was only two decibels outside of the permissable range on a very congested range of frequencies anyway. So policy not actual spurious.
