Love the photo of your parent's house. It's not the kind of picture that a guest would take, and also not the kind of photo that someone would take to show off their home. It is messy in the best kind of way and it's the kind of photo that, to me, speaks of a desire to hold onto a piece of an everyday life and cherish it. The act of observing here feels intimate and loving and lovely. Thanks for sharing all the photos and the stories behind them!

Ahh you put it very well! That's exactly the appeal - the intimacy and this feeling of holding onto something everyday and authentic. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing your thoughts! :)

Hey, thank you for the paper background when showing photos. It's 10 times better when watching at night. But maybe you can balance the lighting when you are talking versus when showing photos a bit more.

Props to you for also being honest about what you don't like about some photos. Your BTS videos changed my workflow and made me to slow things right down. I ended up enjoying the process even more.

This video is very cool! I really enjoy seeing your perspective on things, the way that you see photography or anything related to art in other videos. I also particularly like your photography sessions with different film stocks! Saw one about Tmax today also, and was wondering if you could also make one about the Fomapan black and white films available? It has a really cool way of exposing highlights, and I'm curious how you would use that in some photos. Also, I think making a video about the way/certain photos express different things if they are in color or black and white, maybe you could do a photography session with two cameras, and make the same shots in b&w and color, comparing them. I'm so glad I know this channel and I'm always happy when I see something new from you!

I wish you'd show just one photograph at a time so that each one can be shown bigger for longer. It's like my attempts to really look at and enjoy the photographs are being frustrated by the way you've decided to do the video.

Hi again Teo. What makes you think that a film photo “today” is so much different than a digital one? From the moment that the film is going to be scanned, to end up in LR, the final images are not real film images anymore. The least you can say is that they are hybrid ones, hybrids that are more digital (or maybe 100% digital) than analogue. The fact that they are produced on an existing media (the film) and not in a sequence of bits in a hard drive (something that many say it greatly differentiates analogue from digital) changes nothing from the moment of their conversion to a bit’s file. From the moment a film is scanned it is no more a film, but a digital “thing” which can be manipulated in a million of ways. Especially if it is printed, something that will be done digitally (and a real photo is the printed photo). This manipulation is something that we were not able to do in the totally unforgiving film times (maybe some professionals with the recourses of those times could do something on this, but they were an insignificant minority). And this is true especially with slide images. I started photography in the mid 70’s and as I was advancing I ended up working almost exclusively with Provia, Velvia and a bit of Astia (all Fuji films). A slide shot at that time was a slide shot out of the camera, period, that could not be changed in any way. Even small mistakes were not forgiven. A perfect image was not the rule, even for the most skilled of us, but the exception. Today I can scan my old slides and do whatever I want with them. Bring them to the point that they were shot to be. But they are not my old slides anymore. They are digital copies of them, composed of tiny small squares called pixels. I also struggled a lot with B&W (and I really miss my darkroom and the smell of the chemicals back then) using mostly Ilford films and papers. There, in B&W, a minimal manipulation was possible, but nothing compared with today’s vast capabilities. So, what is the meaning of going back? If you tell me that it is pure nostalgia I will believe you. But if you tell me that it is something more than that I won’t. It would be very interesting if you could do a video on this topic.

You noticed it too that photo people don't like pics with people, they go berserk for landscapes or macro of a flower only. Can't understand this either, wherever I post i get 2x or 3x more likes on some random landscape than for an interesting portrait.

i wonder with the 1st photo that maybe its not your style to bring the camera lower to the ground to "cut" the sky away without needing to tilt the camera down what are your thoughts on that option? friend in a rain coat a distance away holding an object screams the movie "IT" reference for some reason, with a change of color and an umbrella instead of balloon, like small changes but i felt that connection, like a homage or parody. 3rd image really speaks out to what you described perfectly i kinda liked the image with the water drops on the car window plus the trees - added that the car window framed going bottom left up towards top right while the trees is going opposite directions going top left down bottom right, thought those lines add to the over composition maybe? with the guy with the news paper it feels the story was more about the empty space in front of him - who would take that space base on the signs - and thats also showing the differences in how the city/public transportation is different to other places.
@teocrawford
@teocrawford 2 года назад
Ahh yeah, the thing is I rarely get so low, because I don't like the look so much of the camera being close to the ground. Ahh didn't see that hahah but totally makes sense now when you point it out :D Ohhh that's a very interesting way to look at the photo (the empty space being the story) - I like that! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! :)

To be honest, I don't feel that photo as much as you do. I'm sure you have a stronger connection to it because the subject is your friend. I actually skipped forward in the video and was surprised at how long you were speaking about them for. No hate! I love that for you. I think as film photographers, we get pretty nostalgic at times. I love the forrest, fog, street shots Absolutely wonderful. I'm a big fan of your moody shots.

Ahhh thanks for sharing your thoughts! I see, I see - well we all have different aspects we appreciate in general, so I can understand that the photo wouldn't appeal to you and many others. I always find it interesting to compare my personal opinion to the most common opinion. Whether it's the same or quite different can be quite thought provoking. Thank you! :))

It would be cool to do a collab with you. I am based in Switzerland. I have been doing some photo projects recently. One of them has been shooting night locations from 12:00pm to 5:00am in the morning with my medium format (120) SLR... maybe not your cup of tea... I might be crazy but whatever. I am always getting people telling me off for taking photos, that, or interrupting me... so it's nice to go out and shoot without anyone on the streets at night.
@teocrawford
@teocrawford 2 года назад
Ohh wow that sounds tough, but I totally get your point haha. I always look for locations with less people... although I've only encountered people telling me off a couple of times. Once I was photographing a house and this person stopped and got out the car to ask me out about my activity, because they thought I was preparing for a robbery LOL :,D Sure, hit me up if you happen to be in Austria some time! :)
