How is the recommended content we find on internet selected? What are the logics behind them?
In this video, Urbano Reviglio (Research Associate at the Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom) explains the concept of "recommender systems," their lack of neutrality, and the actions taken by the European Union to regulate them, thus aiming to make them more transparent and fair."(...) they are not neutral systems.
They reflect the values of their creators. Moreover, they are also notoriously nontransparent, not only because it is very challenging to explain the logics behind recommendations, but also because they are proprietary systems and they need to be protected."
