This was such an amazing video. We are taught as children how to make a confession, but as we get older we still tend to make our confessions as a child. I never thought that just having a conversation from the heart was an actual confession. Thanks so much for doing this.

@Patricia, I am too and I've been obsessing of how to get the words out to the priest, but after watching several videos of different priests and most especially this video with Msgr. Borski, I'm more at ease. I go to confession tomorrow for the first time in over 3 decades. I'm looking forward to freeing my soul and starting a new life! I don't know if you wrote this in 2013, but I'm writing in May of 2020.

@richard, hey! I did it! I was a little anxious, but Father put me right at ease. We had to do it in the corner of the parking lot of the Church and there was a screen up. He welcomed me back to the Church. Walking back to my car, I felt like jumping up and clicking my heels, (if I could), LOL. It's a big weight off of my shoulders! Please don't hesitate going. God and the priests are happy for us! Has it been a while for you? I jotted down notes so I wouldn't forget anything. Thanks for your interest Richard. We're on the same journey!

this is such a great helpful video.. I want to share about the victim/scrupulous thing is from judgemental and abusive people without healthy counseling or healing... i promise.... we get so hung up on it. i grew up being nitpicked for every little thing by my parents and always being forced to apologize and I was physically abused for it, even tho my folks never admitted their own faults. Scapegoat kids bear the guilt and judgement . i was about 5yers old, sleeping on couch at a party full of drunk people, and apearently I woke up to being punch in the face by my father while he screamed at me to get my thumb out of my mouth. i was humiliated and wet myself on those people's couch. That was 40 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. I know other people like me and we drive people nuts, but also we have a flashing red light **EASY TARGET ** As I recently started back to confession and communion a few months ago (and Im on the spectrum) I struggle with what is and is NOT a sin because people get in my buisness A lot... I have already been harrassed for taking communion even tho I met with the priest TWICE and communion TWICE and was absolved.... SO iM TRYING TO BE GOOD... BUT ITS NEVER GOOD ENOUGH.... YIKES But I dont want to be like this, I promise. This is a friendly helpful video that gives me some perspective to contemplate on and pray about.

I am writing a story, for my own amusement, in which (in a small episode) a Catholic character confesses. This video is very helpful in getting the details as correct as a non-Catholic is likely to manage.

This just came up in RU-vid Suggestions for the Season of Lent 2018. It's brilliant! I've listened to talks on how to make a good Confession, but had never seen Confession modeled. Feedback: It's helpful to see the modeling, because taking the notes (mentally or in writing) from a talk means having to carry it all in mind and try to remember all the "Do's & Don't do's" while participating in the Sacrament. By listening to others model it, it's easier to take away what applies personally, and then to internalize it and "own it," to be able to put it into practice. And in the end, instead of repeating all the instructions to memorize them, I'm contemplating the beautiful message of God's grace, giving thanks for His love and mercy, and for His gift to us of the priesthood, because through His priests, He heals us.

Christ Jesus, Savior of the world, I pray with the repentant thief to whom you promised Paradise: "Lord, remember me in your kingdom." It's so much better in Latin in a confessional. It is a solemn rite which really makes you focus on the gravity of your sins and your need for God's grace. When you hear the priest absolve your sins with, "Ego te absolvo", you are left with no doubt that the priest has the power to forgive sins.

These are great examples of what not to do. I've heard other priests say that it's okay to give a tiny bit of background information when it comes to confessing a mortal sin. It would be extremely hard to just say the 'word' that you did without prefacing it, so it doesn't sound like you decided to do this sin on a whim. It's not making excuses or not taking responsibility, but sharing the circumstances surrounding the decision that you made. How do you feel about it?

@@csa7189 I never tried face~to~face, but I'd like to try it...maybe. I'm at a crossroads right now with all the talk about Catholicism being an evil, fake religion with more emphasis on the pope being the head of the Church. In my mind, God is the head and I don't understand why we have to confess through a priest. I have a close relationship with my Father and He knows me better than anyone else.

Cradle Catholics don't know how lucky they are! RCIA class I went to presupposed we understood what sin is as well as which kind of sin it is. Where can I find a definition of what 'bad behavior', to use a general word is what kind of sin? How can I become more sensitive to things I should mention in confession? I try to forget things that will cause tension so I won't have seizures. This makes it hard, if not impossible to remember things I should confess. Any suggestions here?

We must continually seek to improve our conscience by _self reflection and true repentance_. If you go to confession, dig as deep as you can, and remember that no sin is too great to be confessed, you will be able to reach the innermost parts of your soul. If you can dig deep enough to truly come to God sinful and sorrowful, and leave, forgiven and filled with grace, you will begin to see the world more perfectly in the likeness of him who dwells within you, Christ. God Bless!

Perhaps somewhat helpful but this trivialized version of the types of sins a person would commit over a 3 month or six month period only contributed to discouraging people with grave sins from wanting to go to confession

I read in a video and saw the priest say that you have to confess every number of how many times you’ve done the act if not your confession is invalid I don’t think other than me trying at this point to make a better confession I’ve ever had anything close to that the priest was kind and I told him it was a long time but I don’t know if my words were exactly correct all I know is that I was extremely sorry but because I don’t have the exact numbers down and I am writing them down now do I have to do it all over again I have done two confessions explaining more but these are sins that we already talked about but I don’t know if I did it correctly it’s kind of hard for me to write words down on paper and at this point confession isn’t even comfortable for either oneMore concerned about the priest comfort because of accessibility he has to make a large sacrifice to hear my confession

I would go to another priest. Some are better than others in understanding that the importance in confession, is that you are humbling yourself before God, and you want the gift of healing through forgiveness. Your memory may not be perfect, and you can say that also, but you say that you are there, because you are sorry for the wrongness in what you did to yourself and God. God is very merciful, that is why He appeared to St.Faustina. Do not allow a poor confessor to turn you away, from your God given right, to receive this very importance sacrament. You can also say, what priests sometimes say to me, “Forgive me Lord for any and all past sins,”, and I add that I place all my sins , and any hurt I have caused others on the foot of the cross of Jesus Christ, so that He May cleanse my soul, protect,, and seal it with His Precious Blood.Confession is a form of exorcism. Go to confession at least once a month, even to confess venial sins. The graces you receive are needed. Try to go to adoration. Look up the tremendous graces you add to your life. God bless all who read this. We don’t know when God will take us, but WE NEED TO BE READY.

Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; Matthew 27:50‭-‬51 KJV When Jesus Christ died on the cross. He tore down the veil in the temple that separated us from God. And only the priest could go in and pray to God for us. Because Jesus Christ has torn the veil spiritually we can go to Jesus Christ ourselves. No need for a confess to priest anymore. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:7‭-‬9 KJV

Why does the priest who listens to the sinner’s sins during confessional ask for a donation in exchange for expiation? Why does the priest sometimes ask for double the donation in exchange for the sinner being able to have a future sin forgiven or expiated? Just last week there was a story in Utah of a 26 year old admitting to murdering an elderly couple and stealing their credit cards during a confessional. The Priest during confessional asked for a $1,000 donation by credit card in exchange for forgiving the sin of murder & theft. Isn’t this an abuse of a confessional? During the confessional the priest asked for an additional $1,000 just in case the sinner wanted to repeat the crime with a second victim. 54644
