Thank you Monnie. I was so excited when he reached out to me. Wish he made more videos but he is a busy guy. He has a bunch in the can. His enjoyment is the special effects. They definitely are special. I love meeting other collectors Monica, it’s what I enjoy most
Kris, I talked about meeting you! You are on his bucket list meetup also! He loves your farm and Disney videos also. Yes you were a topic of discussion!
Hi Steve nice that you met up with Paul again. I’m meeting mazzy next week in London should be fun.. liked the sound of that first record .. don’t you just love those collector’s editions.. cheers Steve 👍
That will be fantastic to meet Mazzy Rob. I love meeting other record collectors and sitting down and just chatting. I will eventually head back to the UK and all I want to do is meet people. I love the sites but at my age it’s more fun to talk with people. Collectors edition, I know, what a stinking joke. Ah remember the time Rob when a collectors edition had lots of extra stuff? Enjoy your time with Mazzy, so good to hear from you.
Chance, I suddenly got a message about meeting up the next day! No problem, I can make anything work. My job does allow me flexibility since my son knows my passion for the VC and meeting people. It was a wonderful time. The place was pretty much emptied out when we left haha.
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 glad to hear your "boss" doesn't mind VC excursions! I rememeber a recent video where you filmed and had to work that day. #committed
Diggin’ that Daiistar sound. Has a little Stone Roses feel. Scientists is killer! Lee Perry is great sounding too, very chill. I love me some Elmore James, not easy to come by. Great shares, Steve.
Good point on Daiistar, it does have a Stone Roses feel, had not thought about that. I use to have a lot more reggae and blues, limiting my size of collection I have backed off of a lot of genres. Definitely want some more blues.
So glad you got to meet up with Paul. Had the best time when he was in Orlando. Daiistar sounds really good. Gonna have to check them out more. Really dig the sound.
Jimbo, I know you are the man when it comes to Howlin Wolf. I do love his tough dirty blues also. I do need more blues in my collection, I just have to figure out where I can put it at lol
Hello Steve; Good to catch a game at the Ballpark. Daiistar echo laden melodic pop. Scientists, post garage pop. Lee Perry, funky orient synth sound. Elmore James the Sultan of Slide Blues. Beausoleil, French Creole Cajun Zydeco, Nor'lins style. Take care, Tina & Pat!~
So here is something real sad, I went to file Daiistar and found I Had It Already! It got missed in putting it in discogs. I found a few albums I had missed. I really try to be careful entering everything but I swear sometimes they don’t save correctly. I have no idea but that was frustrating. Now I got something to trade or send out to somebody. Maybe I’m just getting old, sigh
Another early morning great show with Steve minus kat. Lov baseball I watch all 162 Yankee games. Cuts down on listening thou. Heading to record show in Asheville next Sunday. Take care enjoy seeing all the new records. Take care. I love you trains too.
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 the record show is this coming Sunday. I had pinstripes on my diapers as a baby. I grew up abt 20 minutes from Yankee stadium in jersey
Daiistar vocals are different but it has some of that 90s UK feel like from Primal Scream. I was surprised to see a Scientist reissue, not a band you would think they would reissue, glad they did, very good album Brian.
Hi Steve, nice Lee Scratch Perry album - I have quite a few of his records but not that one. I was lucky enough to see him live a few years ago, superb. When I worked for Baroid they took me to a Houston vs New York baseball game but the few beers at a craft beer pub beforehand virtually sent me into a comatose sleep or was it the boring game? They had a train on the rim of the stadium which apparently made a pass if a home run was hit - it never moved. It defintiely wasn't cricket. Cheers, Paul
Paul, baseball can be boring unless you’re really into the team. You sound like me with alcohol, if I have a couple of drinks I fall asleep. First time I ever drank was my first trip to the UK when I was 21. I had no idea how tired it made me but I fell asleep ina few pubs after a few ciders! Didn’t like beer at the time but fell in love with cider
That's cool that you got to hang out with Paul. Daiistar sounds great. Reminds me of a mix of Oasis with Sonic Youth. As usual, thanks for sharing all the interesting music. I was not familiar with any of these bands.
Will, I have to keep up with you on showing new stuff. Lot of great new music, I just wish I was better at finding it. Then again, I would be in the poor house lol
"Oh, peace train take this country / Come take me home again" I hope you enjoyed your choo-choo ride. I grew up in a town that was hemmed in by train tracks. Trains would often stop over railroad crossings, causing much frustration among drivers. I've heard people applauding a train that finally moved. When students were late to school, a frequent excuse was, "I had to wait for a train." This led to teachers checking with students and staff to see if there really had been a stopped train. Our high school mascot was the bulldog. I thought it should've been a train. We could've been called the Locos. We'd have a powerful locomotive as a mascot that could run over the competition. Locos would also be a fitting name since the trains drove people loco. In order to ease people's frustration when a train was stopped, I would take my acoustic guitar out, go up to the crossing, and sing "Peace Train" by Yusuf/Cat Stevens. I hoped this would also foster good feelings of togetherness/unity among the waiting drivers. It united them to hate me. Many expletives and sundry items were hurled my way. I quit my performances after disgruntled drivers tied me to the tracks like a damsel in distress. I yelled for help. No one came to my aid, though I was only about six feet from the railroad crossing. Luckily, I was able to free myself. When I told my dad what happened, he said, "Serves you right." I remember my dad would fantasize about blowing a train off the tracks with a rocket launcher. This past Saturday, a rocket-firing Boba Fett action figure sold for the loco price of $1.34 million dollars, thus making it the most-expensive toy ever sold at a public auction. The only rocket-firing Boba Fetts that exist (from the original Star Wars line of toys) were made as prototypes. They were never made available to the public. Kenner nixed the idea of a projectile after kids choked on missiles from a Battlestar Galactica toy. One kid even died. I still have the Boba Fett action figure that I had as a kid. I'd put a price of $25 on it. In addition to Star Wars, I also loved trains and junkyards as a kid. I would've loved to have lived in the caboose of a train, eat beans out of a can, and travel across this country from one junkyard to the next. When I told these dreams to my father, he kicked me and said, "Get your head out of the clouds, kid." Thank you for riding these trains of thought. Till next time, stay groovy, Cat Steve. "The bell just toned, my baby done caught that train and gone"
So sorry to hear that the town folk did not appreciate your efforts in bringing them entertainment. As a child we lived right by train tracks. By age 6 we were hiking the tracks. These were little branch lines. At age 8 me, my brothers and a friend walked the tracks to a neighboring town. We were exhausted and has no idea how to get back but as luck would have it the train was in that town so we all hopped into an empty box car and assumed it would head the right was and stop in our town. Not a lot of thought goes into the minds of a group of kids age 10 and under. Lucky for us the train did stop in our town and we scrambled out. We got caught on a very large trestle once that was going over a river. No way to get back. Luckily it was summer and the river was very low and the trestle not very high. We scrambled down it and waited for the train to pass and then continued on. I spent so much time on the railroad tracks Roman.
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 You should have been made an honorary hobo, given a bindle, overalls with holes in them, and a map to the Big Rock Candy Mountain. Thanks for sharing.
That truck is still there Dave, heck of a Mountain View also. We went to the pizza place, it was so highly ranked. I will say it was excellent. Leadville was wonderful, had a fantastic time there
Monster Nachos 🤢. Great opener. Take some pics on the train. 🚂 $20 wow. I loved that magazine, R.E.M. so I guess it’s worth it. Liked the Lee Perry drop; cool jacket and packaging. Elmore - great blues recording. Have a good week, Steve
I got pictures from the train. Low nose Geep 9 was pulling it. I like REM also Mark but wow, $20 for articles from the archives. Now that’s a profitable edition, like a greatest hits album!
I like both forms of music but zydeco always wins out as it is more upbeat I think because Cajun relies on more folk songs. Both make me smile and relax Chris. Thanks for watching my friend
So cool that you got to meet up with Paul. I think I used to have Daiistar on my discogs wantlist, but I deleted the whole list and haven't started a new one. Lee Perry record looks great - I'm really glad you were able to get the special collectors' deluxe edition. lol Hope you have a great week Steve. (or are having one - I'm a little late)
lol Randy, those special collectors additions are so awesome ! Pretty crazy I have a Discogs want list and I never check it, just as well , I don’t need anymore temptation to spend money.
Beausoleil is a great Cajun group but some of their albums are not that great in my opinion. This one was great, it had a great Cajun feel to it. Free concert, I do love that price Hasse lol. Hope you have a wonderful week my friend
Good morning Steve! The Scientists sound like a mix of Hoodoo Gurus and the Cramps pretty good! I had a Elmore James comp but most of the songs sounded like Dust my Broom 🧹 Take care Brian ☮️
lol Brian about Elmore James. Sadly he did stick to his signature roof. Bo Diddley had that same problem also. They have a hit so let’s change up the lyrics. If you see a early Scientist at Green Light grab it, you won’t be disappointed
Hi Steve! I've enjoyed Paul's videos for years. Such a knowledgeable guy. You know, those Daiistar clips seems to have a bit of an underlying Oasis thing going on. Very interesting, for sure. Anyway, thanks for another great eclectic video!
Yeah, I went all over the place again Dave, kind of how my listening habits and even reading habits are. It was a joy to meet Paul. Wish we could have connected when I lived in MI. Talking with fellow collectors is what I enjoy most
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 You can probably tell that my listening habits are all over the place too haha! I'm honestly surprised that we didn't run into one another in Radio Wasteland. My daughter lived in Freeland for a time so I would sneak up to Midland whenever I could. I still have one of those hunter orange t-shirts around here someplace. Anyway, it's always a treat to talk music in person!
I used to buy Mojo and Shindig every month back in the late 90s/ early 2000s, but quit buying them when their prices went over $10. Both mags were priced higher than others because they were British publications, but when they raised prices to $12.99, that's when I stopped buying them, I figured I would rather spend the money on records. Daiistar sample sounded good, will look into that. Love that Scientists album, when I showed it, a few people commented that they have a similar guitar sound to the Cramps, which is a good thing! Old school blues with Elmore James is killer stuff, so essential. Nice selection again Steve, hope you have a great week!
Thanks Michael for tuning in. Barnes and Nobles was a treasure trove of music magazines. I spent so much money on them and would read them from cover to cover. Now it’s VC videos. At least we keep learning about new music though it can be expensive lol
You guys went to a ball game? Cool... Looks like you were a long way from the action. That don't matter so long as the hot dogs and cold beer are handy. LOL
We were up high but under an overhang which was very nice when it started to rain. We didn’t want Aiden in the hot Sun. I had a beer but had Monster Nachos which were very good and very filling. I love ballpark food Bobby
hey Steve, I was just in Leadville, camping near Turquoise Lake. I didn’t take the train ride but can confirm that High Mountain Pies makes some killer pizza (assuming that’s the place you meant 😂). That Scientists record is on my want list. I have the Numero reissue of the self-titled and love that one.
Russell, do you live in Denver area? Yes it was High Mountain Pies, it was excellent and the weather was wonderful. They had that 100 mile ultramarathon going on so it was quite busy. We ate our pizza with a couple of backpackers !
I did stream some of the Daiistar album a few weeks ago but decided to skip it. Just something about the vocal style that doesn't gel with me. The exercise of restrained willpower when confronted with a Fuzz Club record! A rare experience!! I did like the Scientists' sample. The Aussies always seem to produce some great psych, whatever the era. Love the Lee Perry album. I need more reggae. I have a cd compilation of Elmore James. One of the greats. I've not heard of Beausoleil, but the sample sounded so much like Irish folk music. What my wife (who comes from an Irish family) would have called "diddly" music. Great video, Steve. Cheers
Interesting you mentioned BeauSoleil as having an Irish sound. It started with the Acadians in Canada which had a lot of French but they also had Irish. It is a big part of the music. Definitely more folk related It took me awhile to decide on Daiistar but I have enjoyed it, strange voice though. Too many types of music to listen to Andy, hard to keep up with
Mojo was one of my favorite albums, back in the day. Even in the early 2000s, the price became crazy. I know it's an imported album but I just couldn't justify spending that kind of money. The price of "Q" magazine also skyrocketed. I believe there are "sites" that allow you to download these music magazines and many others for the price of a free cup of coffee. Elmore also recorded "Dust My Broom" as "Dust My Blues" He did a number of variations of the song - sometimes under different names so he could record for different labels. He was a bit of a rascal.
Barnes and Noble became the place to find magazines. I bought so many magazines Darrell until the VC changed my reading habits. Suddenly I was watching videos instead of reading magazines. Guess I saved a lot of money that I then spent on more records lol. Blues guys were infamous for changing their names and the title of the song. Lighting Hopkins was notorious for dong that also.
Thanks for the video, Steve! As much as I like the Daiistar LP, I think their live sound is a lot punchier - check out the KEXP Session from late 2023 on youtube. Also, I guess you saw Sam is back as VD from Thailand (I think)....some nice vids from him too!
Luke I have been tuned into Sam and have already spent more money lol. I like that he reps me more in tune with a lot of great music. I will check out that KEXP session, that would be interesting to hear them live
Steve, go Rockies! I like bubbles 🫧! Hang out with Aiden be cool but bubbles aren’t good in the music room. lol. We need to have more demolition derby’s so people can work out their road rage! Great meet up with Paul. Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman
Got off track again with demolition derbies, amazing how the mind can wander Steve haha. It was a real treat to meet Paul, wonderful person, but everyone I have had the pleasure to meet have been outstanding Steve
Yep those Collector magazines are pretty expensive. Even the monthly music mags are pricy here in the UK. I always have a flick through first in the shop and then decide if I need to buy or not (usually not.) I remember The Scientists. Got a Lime Spiders 12” recently - another 80s Aussie Band.
Love the Lime Spiders John. I use to buy so many magazines and then came YT Vinyl Community that took up all of my reading time. VC is a lot cheaper than a magazine!
Hi Steve - Love The Mojo & Uncut special editions but they are notoriously pricey. Good news is they sell well at sales .. you know you'll be renting a booth one of these years !
Mike, I used to collect Mojo, but haven't read one for years. It started to become too dad rock for me. If a dude from the Black Angels is involved in Daiistar, I'm interested. So good to see Numero reissuing the Scientists stuff so the Yanks can get onboard. For better or worse they influenced a lot of the Grunge bands. I like to think it was mainly Mudhoney, Tad and that ilk. Smashing cars is fun! Magic Dirt did a great cover of We Had Love. I dig Lee Perry & have quite a few of his records and records he produced but there's is so much & so many kinda dodgy releases amongst the gold to sift through. I actually saw him at Fuji Rock about 10 years ago. He had pink hair and a pink beard. I think he was about 80 at the time. Eccentric man. I got into Elmore James because Brian Jones was a big fan. I'm starting to see a trend Mike that your last album is always a bit of a curveball. Cajun, Accordions, Brazilian but never polka!! Cheers...Mike
lol, Mike, yeah the last album is the one that only 33% of the people that watch will see haha. Show the new stuff first , then the cool stuff and slowly bring in more common or odd things like classical. Yes, I really do think about positioning of the albums haha. Mike I kept every single music magazine since the late 70s. I had 1000s of them. FYI, those air tight lids don’t stand up to 6 feet of flood waters. 1000s were tossed , just as well. I always thought when I retired I would reread them and make a library out of them ( yes I love to organize books by us just and author). Who am I kidding about rereading them ! I had some that survived the flood, gave most to the library to sell. I gave the library 100s of books, I’m just not going to read them again so why pack them up. That said I still have way too many books but it is manageable at least. As far as music, I was excited about the Scientist release, great group for sure. Part of my expanding Aussie collection!
Looks like you are really enjoying the move. I missed what happened to 'Cat' and hope you don't mind saying again, I got a confused by the start of your program talking about cat not being there.
When we moved here Kat was having a hard time adjusting, it was a heck of a mood. He is an indoor / outdoor cat. One night , about a week after we moved here he went out and never returned. We don’t know if someone else grabbed him but more likely could have been a coyote. Hard to say. He could have started walking back to MI. We decided no more pets but I do miss my most obnoxious co host
Hello Steve, been seeing that Lee Perry pop up in various places, wasn't too sure exactly what it was but looks like just another reissue of the Kung Fu Meets The Dragon LP with for some reason a different cover and title. Cause Lee Perry's discography is already so straightforward, might as well confuse things a little lol. A bit over the top with the marketing hype to be sure. Perry did jump on the kung fu craze around then, that is Augustus Pablo on melodica plus you get Kung Fu Man which is an early tune by Linval Thompson for Perry. Soon to become an artist and producer to be reckoned with in his own right. I like the sound of Daiistar, kind of a 90's throwback. Have a good week Steve
Doug, wonderful information, you are a trove of reggae knowledge. When I was looking this up I saw the different covers. I guess this one was more appealing, it caught my eye and sucked me in lol.
Beautiful Coors Field 😊 God I miss it… (baseball and travel and Denver). Don’t they say minor league food usually is more adventureous? Leadville I’ve seen a few things from. My favorite travel youtubers Kara and Nate go there sometimes. I think they are there roughly now? Some sort of insane run.
That insane run is happening this weekend in Leadville! We just found that out so don’t know what to expect. 100K 2 day run in the mountains, that is nuts. I am getting more time to explore, so much to see as you well know.
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Yeah, Nate was going to do that thing so I guess I’ll see it on youtube in a couple of weeks. Looks like such a nice town.
Nothing wrong with a little Hillbilly music Richie. VC ended my magazine buying also. I use to buy 5 to 10 magazines a month, it was insane but I read them. Once I got into the VC my reading time changed to video watching time
not baseball, but it just reminded me that you are no longer going to be here when the Lions win the superbowl! come back for the season and we'll still accept you as a Michigander 😂
Hey Jim, I will be able to watch the Lions, my son said I am set up to see all their games! It will be a great year. I hope you’re doing well. I do check out your videos and I even just did a store tour that specializes in Metal!
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Hey Steve, I think you got me confused with someone else, (this is Helm 😁) I can't check out all of your videos (so long!!) but I stop in every once in a while, good to see you and your family!!
Sorry about REM $20 loss. I had to dig at the bottom of the barrel to find a ridiculous David Cassidy LP, an NBC radio history (missing disc didn't know), cover only of a Gas Huffer record and ex library of Doc Watson. Yeah, that barrel now empty. Un-retired 2024?
Henry, I had officially from work but my son bought a business and asked me to run it so officially unretired It is hard to find good stuff out there Henry. Some people still do but you really have to look around
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 I used to find Elvis records all the time and glad I got them when I did. if I was concerned with "mint" I'd be Elvisless. TYVM.
I think i have 10 shirts and shorts with chlorine stains from shocking the pool. It’s a recreational hazard i guess. Most of the bands i belonged to as a kid were mostly noise and less melody. I kind of like the first needle drop.
