Thanks. I was doing this by running both OBS and Windows Camera. But using two OBS instances is way better. Another top tip for syncing them... if using Davinci Resolve for editing, then have both OBS instances record your audio - and then use Davinci Resolve's multi-cam feature to sync both videos together. One of the multi-cam sync options is to automatically sync by audio waveform. It makes it super-simple. Means you don't need to do the whole clap and notepad thing.
It genuinely pains me how straightforward this is, and yet I didn't think of doing it. Thank you for this, it's tenfold better than the ultra widescreen method.
lol, glad I could help! To be fair, it would be nice if it were built into OBS to begin with. Not the most obvious solution until after figuring it out. lol
Very Kool. Thank you Especially if you adjusted shortcuts in both instances so that recording starts simultaneously by pressing the shortcut. Also.do not forget to make the output of the instances into 2 different folders (to avoid any glitches)
I made that mistake and am left with a single .MKV file with only 1 video & 1 audio track. However, through VLC media player, I'm randomly able to play the hidden track by skipping forward and backwards. Do you have any suggestions for how I might be able to separate these into two different tracks or two different files?
This man painted his whole corner green. Dedication. Also I hate when I am having an issue with something and I find a video explaining such a simple way to fix it, like why didn't I think of that?! Thank you for this!
An easy tip to sync your audio when you open the two separate OBS the first one that has your full camera on mute the desktop audio And just leave the mic audio. And for the second OBS which is capturing your game Mute your mic so it's just capturing the game audio. That way you have two separate audio for your game and webcam which you can sync in editing much easier. IMPORTANT NOTE ---> When you close OBS it would go back to default so make sure to mute them again when you record
Best way I found to sync both obs at the same time is to set a recording shortcut. In both obs instances at the same key. If you just hit the key you start recording in both of them.
Thank you but you can go to hotkeys in settings and but any key in start recording and anthor key to stop recording in same time so you don’t need to sync it every time
Do not do that, it doesn't work because the files will replace each other. Since they are recorded exactly at the same time with the exact same name. And it will cause OBS to glitch out, DO NOT DO THAT.
you're a W man, so straightforward. thankyou bro, entertaining and informative tutorial. love the part when you mentioned how to sync both recordings. lmao, you just earned a sub
What would be the best way of syncing the videos. Should the mic audio only be on the webcam recording and game audio on desktop. or should you record the mic on both and sync the waves?
a better syncing method, if you're capturing your mouse, is to say "up down up down" while flicking your mouse up and down. that's what I do and it works perfectly. if your not recording your mic in OBS with the webcam, you can clap first to sync your voice THEN do the up down thing. anyway, thank you so much! my camera's SD slot broke (like a piece broke off of it and now i can't insert any SD cards...) so i have to start recording straight to my PC and didn't want facecam and gamplay stitched permanently because of how I like to edit.... this is so useful lol.
after all the times ive opened obs and got the message that obs is lauching want to launch another obs it never dawn to do just that and record my video capture, ive always hated using my webcam in the obs and not being able to position it later in editing software Thanks Mike!
this was super helpful! i do find that my pc runs a bit slower when i try to use this method so i was thinking of upgrading it. what component needs to be upgraded for something like this?? i was thinking ram since more programs are being used at once. plz help me mikethetech!!1!1 here's my specs... - motherboard: msi b450 tomahawk max - cpu: amd ryzen 7 3700x - cooler: corsair h100i elite cappelix - ram: corsair vengence pro 16gb - ssd: 970 evo 500gb - gpu: amd 6700xt - psu: evga 750 bq
Make sure they are going to seperate folders which you have to change every time you open both OBS’ it’s very important to note. I just recorded a 2 hour video and one of them didn’t save since they both went to the same folder
That’s why I click record one at a time and sync after. If you start them both at the same time they both get the same file name and it becomes corrupt.
I'm looking for a way to separate my camera from gameplay when I'm streaming. That would be a killer video if you figure it out! I know so many people trying to do that rn.
Killer Man. Super Helpful. Another option for syncing could be to run another audio on the screen grab like the computer mic and make a loud sound that the waveform can easily be seen.
I guess for me doing reaction videos I would want my audio output device (headphones) to be on the screen capture recording and my mic to be on the camera recording? Thanks 👍
@@MikeTheTech oh really? thats super weird, maybe the deeper solution is getting Streamlabs OBS and OBS to dodge corruption, technically two different applications? just an afterthought
i was doing this with streamlabs and obs, but i didnt realize you could do this with obs and obs! thanks bro, now i can use obs' superior settings and customization🔥 another thing you could do to sync up the recordings much easier is to have a hotkey for 'stop recording', that way both recordings end at the same time and you can sync them up by lining up the end of both videos!
If you do that, sometimes the file names are named the same and causes corruption. Just as an fyi. Tried it and you would just need to change the file name format.
@@MikeTheTech dont start it at the same time and they wont have the same name, just end it at the same time with a hotkey! havent had any problems trying it out so far
Dang, was hoping there was another way of doing this as I stream to Twitch, so having two different recordings isn't possible. I like to take my VODs and edit them for RU-vid later but would love to be able to have separate recordings.
man I really have no word to say ... u just blow my mind ... thaaaaaaaanks so much ... this problem was my nightmare cuz I cant edit on this PC with a wide screen and now I got this solution .. sorry for my English but thanks aloooooooots
Both of my files are unusable... it says both are equal in length, but when i want to view them, they dont start to play and are just corrupted... what am I doing wrong?
@@MikeTheTech ahhh sorry I was confused. So my setup is Ryzen 7 3800x with Nvidia GTX 1080 playing on console ram 32gb. Do you suggest one instance of obs encoding using NVENC and the other H264?
Hi Mike..ok so im about to pull my hair out and go mad. with OBS is it possible to record 2 webcams and record simultaneously(with 2 diff output files)..i cant get a straight answer anywhere. TIA
Jk jk, the software will overwrite one of the recordings, so a hotkey does not work. (not correct) -> An easier solution to making sure the audio syncs without needing to clap would be to just set a hotkey. It'll trigger in both instances of OBS. Thank you for the tutorial!
Thank you for this video! Do you by any chance know if this will work as well for streaming? I would like to stream both the gameplay and webcam together, but have them recorded and saved separately, hope that makes sense. Thank you
If your PC can handle it, sure! You can just add a third OBS to stream your built scene from. This is usually done on a separate streaming PC to avoid slowing down your gaming.
Sorry to ask, but what is the significance of slapping the table and closing notepad? I know you said youre synching audio, but i don't understand how thats synching it. Im an extreme novice with all of this stuff, sorry
When editing in a video editor, the audio will show a visual spike when I hit the table or clap. I can line up both tracks based on the peak of that audio spike, and the videos will be in sync.
Doesn't each OBS instance share the same profile settings, meaning, won't the settings be totally screwed up with two OBS instances launched? Running two OBS Portable seems safer.
I'm wondering if I could open up a 3rd one to stream also while recording 2 other instances. I wanna stream with my webcam and gameplay but also have them separate so I can edit them and upload them to RU-vid.
Can they have different settings? And if you record your camera on one program, does it pick up the sound from your display? So that way one program records my camera and mic audio while the other records gameplay without picking up any other audio sources.
