As a sidenote, Buddha fought for humanity because of two reasons: A) he doesn't like to take orders from anyone and B) to protect humanity. What happened with Brunhilde was that she was already planning that Buddha would battle for her side. Rather than him being tricked by Brunhilde, he *feels* he's being manipulated by her

just so you know, one of the reasons most gods only use melee attacks is actually because manga editors are so strict about how gods should fight that the creators literally had to fight to get Thor to use his eletric powers, btw this was revealed in the art book that came out this year, also a fun fact according to the art book, poseidon would have blue hair but they changed it because it made him look like a video game character

Papiyas is different name for Mara, Demon King of the sixth Heaven. In manga, he was called Hajun, which is Japanese Name for Mara once again.

Manga readers have pointed out that they changed Aphrodite‘s reaction to when Buddha announced that he’s switching sides in the anime. In the manga, she is super pissed. Like her man throne had to hold her back. In the anime, you can barely tell she had a reaction.

Am I the only one who found the Zerofuku lore and fight with Buddha wholesome? Like, I know it's sad, but I also found it sweet from Buddha to make a friend out of someone who hated him and make the winning weapon a tribute for his now deceased friend.

One thing that the anime omitted from the manga is that Buddha is one of the four great sages, with the other three spectating the fight; the other sages being Confucius, Socrates, and Jesus. That’s right, Jesus himself was in this series

The most sinful thing they did was not making Buddha say "Shaddap" I know it's a minor thing but him saying that in the manga was such a boss moment and it stuck with me for some time.

Zerofuku the entire time cared about humanity. He was all 7 acting like 7 people essentially, even when he became the god of misfortune he still cared about the humans, thats why he became the 7, to stop himself from killing humans. He only hates Buddha not all humans. Zerofuku was my favorite god funny enough, I wish more people liked him.

Im curious why the manga writers count Beezlebub as a God, when hes actually a demon

The wiki says Zerofuku is inspired by the eight immortals, as well as Lakshmi, a Hindu God of Fortune. Also, maybe pointless, but Zero split himself to stop his about to start rampage. Also also, It's less that Brunhilde tricked Buddha, more like she knows him.

Here are acouple of notes and stuff -Brunhilde didn't convince Buddha to move sides, but it was one of the factors to why he did. The main reasons are "He wants to, so he will" and he was once human -Yeah the 7 was pretty wasted sadly -Stated by the author, that Posiden can't use the water as an attack. It was only in the arena to look cool. Still pretty wasted. He could have used the water to slow down or block Kojiro's attack. -Papyias (or Hajun/Mara) is a devil/demon that tried to stop Buddha from reaching enlightment. -You'll find about more about Beelzebub more soonish... -Hades was voted as sexiest male fighter..Qin was 3rd -Jesus was suppose to be a crowd member (along with Socrates, Confucius), but was sadly cut prob cause Netflix is scared of getting into drama again -Round 7 is one of my least fav fights, but hopefully the show can make it better. -Goodluck on your recovery

Zerofuku split himself to prevent going on a rampage...... It was supposed to show that despite his rage he still cared about people

Papiyas has another name in the manga, Hajun, maybe you can find more info with that name?

One note I have. Zerofuku was not made up by the show, he was made up by the manga creator. Credit where it is due.

At the begging of this video I will say they don’t translate it well in the anime … I mean even the manga isn’t true to the original Japanese but Buddha did it just because he wanted to and for no other reason … it wasn’t cause the Valkyrie tricked him it was because he just wanted to … Buddha does whatever he wants no matter what

Qin in this manga is a warrior type of character, so he have a fighting style, but i can't explain without spoiling something that you may find interesting when watching yourself. And i really like this version of Hades, he is one of my favorite character's.

I have to agree, the parts aren't necessary. Just release the whole damn season!

I really liked this part in particular, animation was quite good overall, the amount of cgi wasn't awful and characters of both Zero and Buddha were amazingly done It wasn't as impactful or deep as Adam vs Zeus or Jack vs Heracles, but nevertheless it was awesome and on it's own, it is the best Record of Ragnarok adaptation this far It's good to see that the production studio, and animation team are developing as it goes

I figured Brun tricking Budda was in the way that she got the info on the volundr ability. However she did know that Budda would decide to fight for humans because that's just who Budda is, he loves humans, he hates gods, and he does what he wants. So Brun just left Budda to his own devices knowing what would happen. She's a planner, which is why she broke character when Papiyas appeared, that wasn't a part of the plan

Glad you managed to enjoy it towards the end. Also I gotta point out that during the fight, they had Jesus, Socrates and Confucius cheering for Buddha as the ‘Four Sages’ but they cut that bit out of the anime (which may be understandable as they probably didn’t want a repeat of the Shiva fiasco)

The weird thing is that in the manga, instead of zerofuku turning into fabias, he turns in hajun, who I think made a lot more sense

I think he split into the 7 gods of fortune because he was almost about to kill someone and he wanted to stop himself before he did that and was so torn up inside about that he literally split himself into pieces. Also he didnt want to suffer in his current form anymore

Im happy you have enjoyed this part more but you might find more info on him if u search up hajun instead of pappias and I feel like you might enjoy Qin more than buddah

6:36 it's not for no reason, he always wanted to help people and felt a lot of love towards them, like his final act of consciousness was to protect those he cared about of himself and i thought that was really cool

A bit of foreshadowing(?) I love is when those monks were praying to Buddha but were told to stop because the gods were who they were fighting, but now during the Buddha fight they are now praying much more (Don't know if this is specifically foreshadowing)

Buddha wasn't quite tricked he knew what she was doing. Threatened her cause he knew she was doing it and don't like being manipulated he follows his own will. So technically she just hoped he would help

Buddah did decide that on his own the anime is just a bad adaptation of the manga I don't have a problem with the changed mythology because this is supposed to be a word where all the gods of every mythology are real and interfere with the mortal realm and all share a pantheon. It also helps to narratively contrast characters who are fighting with each other who should have no qualities that play off each other

I dont think Brunhilde Tricked Buddha to fight for the Human Side , it was moreover his Decision to side with humans

When it comes to Papiyas, try looking up the name used in the Japanese version "Hajun" or "Hagun". All the sources I found seem to interchange Hajun and Papiyas as a Devil King of the Realm of Desire, Self Love, and Hatred toward others, and is usually portrayed as a figure who attempts to lead people away from enlightenment. So yeah basically Anti-Buddha.

It hasn’t been announced yet but I’m pretty sure I know who’s gonna be the opponent for Anubis, it has to be Simo. A God of Death vs The White Death it makes sense.

@TheMythologyGuy1 Hajun originates from Buddhist Pantheon, serving as Mara, the personification of the lust and desire, where he tried to stop Buddha from archiving the enlightenment by seducing him through his three daughters.

I think it would be really cool if you made a video about the manga the same way you did the anime, like the first video being about the first three fights, the second being about Jack and Heracule and Shiva and Raiden, and the third about whatever else you have when you make it.

From what I've gathered Papiyas (Or Hajun) is a often synonymous with the word Mara who was a malignant celestial king who tried to stop Prince Siddhartha( Aka the founder of Buddhism) from achieving Enlightenment. Oh an also the end goal of Beelzebub planting Hajun in Zerofuku was so that he would be killed by it, pretty much. I won't go into details as to why since idk if you read the manga but yeah

Stuff from the manga that got left out for some reason, Jahve(?) the binlical God exists in RoR and is mentioned by Hades saying he and Him are buddies. Buddha is part of a group called the four Sages, who gave some extra commentary and cheering during the fight. The other three sages are Confucius, Sokrates and . . . Jesus.

As both a fan of history, historical warriors, and mythology in general, it took me a little while to fully get into this show. However, I have come to enjoy it for what it is because it's very entertaining regardless of the various inaccuracies and the fights are always interesting to behold whether they are accurate or not. I've learned to just embrace its good points.

I'm so hoping season 3 does justice to one of my most favorite fights in the manga that being the battle between the 2 kings the 1st emperor of China Emperor Qin Shi Huang vs. the King of the Greek Underworld Hades as it's at least in the manga literally a battle that is brains + martial arts prowess vs. overwhelming power + vengeful rage.

I’ll say that about half the stuff in the manga was cut from this fight, they had, Jesus Christ, Socrates, and Confucius, papiyas in the manga is(I think) referred to a hajun. And I get that having Jesus in an anime can be seen as disrespectful(by some) but he didn’t even say anything, he had zero dialogue in the manga.

I watched the battle in manga and it made the season fight even better

TheMythologyGuy1, i've seen the manga a bit. Qin Shi Haung fought Hades using a Martial Art Style. for round 8, Beelzebub fought the scientist Nikola Tesla and right now the ongoing Round 9 starts with King Leonidas fighting Apollo

I wish that the roster had some female characters in it. There are plenty of known powerful goddesses and female warriors. Imagine something like Aphrodite versus Joan of arc. Even something bizarre like a sky battle with Amelia Earhart versus Athena on a Pegasus.

Ok, So about Papiyas, he's actually called Hajun in the Japanese version. So I Did some digging and it seems that the name Papiyas is of the demon "Mara Papiyas" from Buddhism ,he is a malignant celestial king who tried to stop Prince Siddhartha from achieving Enlightenment by various ways.

As much as i love the series, there’s a massive flaw. The majority of the fights are too predictable. Thor vs lu bu may get you on lu bu’s side because he is getting the most attention in the fight. But thor is a far more popular God than the others and rated very high as a liked mythological character. And the Gods winning against physically one of the strongest humans (in the ror narrative.) So there was terror and dread for the human side was an obvious way to start all of this. Zeus is the most wanked God and the main God so he’s not losing. It’s like putting the main antagonist against a side character like sukuna vs gojo if you know them. By then, the next God was obviously going to lose to get humanity in the game and give them faith, so sasaki was always winning against poseidon, in fact any character would have won narratively at that point. Humanity making a back to back victory streak like the Gods did to give them more hope by evening the score also made the most sense. And because the story loves dread and playing with emotions, hercales being the justice side aka the good side losing to jack was predictable. Shiva is in the same boat as Zeus, being a godhead rather than some regular one. And a favourite mythology character so he wasn’t going to lose. Buddha’s never losing against mara papiyas since enlightened characters will always transcend mara papiyas, and he was one of the most liked characters so he wasn’t gonna lose. Making it even again. Then to add a twist, for once a rated “chiefgod” is going to lose to a human so qin was bound to be made overpowered and win against hades so he’s going to win. I do not need to have watched most of these fights to predict their outcome 😂😂

I cant wait for him to just SEE the fighters for the current fight in the manga. Especially one in particulr

I'll be honest, I liked it and thought it was hilarious how the flashback of Buddha with the king sounded like a game grumps skit

The reason for the dvision of the season was cause when season 2 was release the fight between Zerofuku and Buddha was still goim in the manga. Same thing for round 9 right no so season 3 may have that delay/seperation. Edit: The manga shows the characters well character alot better.

The Manga Explains Zerofuku's Fusion Better, and Buddha Rebelled on his Own in the Manga. There were some Name that were changed in the Manga.

There is one big thing that you have to understand first, Which is the "Setting" of this anime "Valhalla" "Midgard" and "Helheim" are just the name of "Heaven" "Earth" and "Hell" in general, It's the entire plain of existence Every single gods(or at least most of them) existed with with Valhalla(Heaven) and this Valhalla has nothing to do with "Norse Valhalla"(Which doesn't existed in this universe) just having the same name Hades is The King of Helheim because He is The King of "Hell Realm" in general and not King of "Norse Hell"

I’m sad that they changed zerofuku’s weapon name, in the manga his weapon name was misery cleaver and in the anime they changed it to the cataxetrophe, I was very confused on why they changed it, the manga name was fine

Buddha fighting for the humans for me looked more like Brunhild expected it, but didn't need to trick him or anything.

You'd probably find more info on Papiyas if you used some of it's alternate names, like Mara.

Heimdall talked way less during the fight in season 2 part 2 so that was refreshing, dude wouldn't stop talking during the fights in season 1 and season 2 part 1. Also all I know about Papiyas is from Fate and there Oda Nobunaga is the Demon King of The Sixth Heaven(Papiyas is the name of her noble phantasm and yes Oda Nobunaga is female in the Nasuverse TheMythologyGuy)

Beelzebub beeing a bratty kid isn't surprising for a german speaker because "Bub" means just that, a young male/kid/boy. And "Beelze" referring to something evil, makes that "evil boy". Also, a bratty boy in german is referred to as a "Lausbub", adding another layer of semantic connection.

While I REALLY wish we could have opened with the 7 lucky gods VS Buddha, I DID enjoy Zerofuku VS Buddha. It was an enjoyable curbstomp battle with a really enjoyable character, that helped set up Buddha's strength and character in battle, before the fight against Hajun.

The water was there for the fight, it's for visuals

Beelzebub making Papiyas was a test to see if Papiyas would be strong enough to kill him (beelzebub) to end his curse

Zerofuku split because the seven gods ‘stopped’ him from unleashing misery upon humankind, what Zerofuku would’ve done. I have read about this fight in the manga and they told this pretty clear but it’s pretty stupid to not mention it as clearly in this show (if at all, I do not recall). I agree with your idea of Buddha fighting the 7 gods of fortune. The only reason that he had to fight Zerofuku is because they wanted to introduce Beelzebub to the show by that demon transformation. Buddha carried all of this fight, ngl

To be extremely fair, you should never expect a manga or any series to be fully accurate. Record of Ragnarok doesnt thrive in its story, it thrives in its characters and themes. Record of Ragnarok isnt meant to be accurate, its meant to show the sides of humanity. Lu Bu our strength Adam our love Kojiro our ability to change Jack our evil and desire to live Raiden our passion Buddha our freedom I won't spoil round 7 or 8

In this fight in the manga you see Jesus talk about what's going on in the fight and he's apart of a group with budha in it called the 3 sages I think it was called

Unlike most Gods in "Shuumatsu no Valkyrie: Record of Ragnarok", Zerofuku has no real life equivalent (making him an original character). However he seems to be inspired by Lakshmi (the Hindu goddesses of wealth, fortune, power, beauty and prosperity) and the Eight Immortals.

Papiyas Goes by hajun in the manga, so if you search hajun you can maybe find some info.

Making animation is a pretty complex workload now because the standards have been raised so much. Splitting the season into multiple parts allows the team work on fewer episodes for better quality and discourages crunch.
