While showing some of the albums being issued for Record Store Day 2024, I talk about the seven types of releases you can always expect to see for RSD.
You know, that's genius-just issue the Asylum Years Ronstadt empty box! Think of how happy the record shop owners would be to see people coming in to scoop up all of those Ronstadt LP's that have just been sitting there in their store. And how happy the customers will be not having to plunk down all that cash for the pricey fully loaded box, but shelling out maybe 5 or 6 bucks. Win Win. Love it!
There hasn’t been a mono LP pressing of The Birds, The Bees, and The Monkees since the late 60s. Excellent condition US mono pressings of this album can run north of $1000. It’s long overdue for an LP reissue.
This Doors show is known amongst fans, it was a radio broadcast that's been bootlegged many times. Apparently this version comes from the master tapes.
That's what's deceiving about these last doors live records The doors live in Bakersfield was on electric label distributed by rhino records and put together in great packaging so you just assume it's been remastered but the sound quality sound like somebody took a microphone up to a TV set
It was pretty comparable to bootleg of the show that already circulated except the RSD had more tracks including The End. I love the versions of The End and Universal Mind from the Bakersfield show but yeah, that sound quality is rough, I'm not fooling myself on that one.
The one thing about this RSD is that the release #'s are much lower than usual / maybe RSD listened to stores & decided not to release large #'s of each release.
Robert you are by far the best explaining buyer beware with record store Day caution what's good and what's not your spot on about the last live doors record it sounds like crap and it also came out with a CD as well I'm looking forward to the foghat live in New Orleans I saw that tour in 1973 at the Hollywood palladium the Edgar Winter group opened up with Rick Derringer and they played they only come out at night Frankenstein for 15 minutes which was killer but foghat came out after and blew everybody away I never thought I would be able to find that on vinyl
I've come to enjoy RSD for new discovery music and I have looked forward to you covering it every time. You crack me up with the Rondstat box. So many great tips I'll need to watch this more than once and take notes 😊. Greg
One of the better "early takes" of RSD 2024. I get that some content creators crack out an iPad and just scan the list in a non-deep-dive way just to give initial impressions and be first out of the gate, but I appreciate that you took and extra day or two to cover the list more thoroughly (from your perspective) and that you included images. Also for a 20 minute + video, you really keep it moving along. You're a total pro!
I have never seen “The Birds, The Bees, & The Monkees” before where I am. It’s my favorite Monkees album, and I’m so excited for this reissue. I’m also excited for the two Yardbirds albums.
Same here never saw this record ever... The first one ad nauseam though. Not a fan but it's enjoyable ..but not enough for me to pay RSD prices for it. Hopefully you can score it. It should go to fans first.
There's the picture disc by The Cure, the obligatory Bill Evans rekkid, pointless 3" rekkids. I even found the picture disc version of Linda Ronstadt on rollerskates in the wild.
"They should make a Linda Ronstadt box set, but it's just a box, and you put your dollar bin copies of albums in it.' Love it, hilarious. Hey Robert, do you want copies of the Bernie Worrell 2XLP and the Westbound Sound comp? I'm doing PR for them for reissues etc. label Org Music, and we should have promos in soon. Happy to hook a brother up, especially one who lives Betty Davis so much (she was my fav artist client). You can send your mailing address to me in a P M here and I'll put you on the list. Great episode!
you know I think I want a new clean un scratched Nancy Sinatra album ok I'll admit it I would buy a Nancy Sinatra box set I want the Nancy and Lee album in it too
I’m stoked for the At The Drive In reissue. Also that McGuinn / Hillman live record. I went to two of those shows and brought my wife (then girlfriend) to the NJ one and it was a great time. Looking forward to adding both to my collection.
Excellent video Robert! You do a great job distilling much of what's coming out and what to look for. I think it's gonna be the best RSD ever, and with a Pearl Jam exclusive, a Neil Young & Crazy Horse advance exclusive, and a Taylor Swift record dropping the day before (we still don't know if there will be an RSD exclusive), this day has HUGE written all over it! I love your comments about enjoying yourself and the day, and people gotta remember one thing above all else: It's about SUPPORTING YOUR LOCAL RECORD STORE! So they ran out of the thing you were looking for the most. They will probably have a bunch of other things, and if not an RSD title, find SOMETHING and SUPPORT THEM. It's a tough job year after year doing these events, and the stores do not make a lot of money once the bills are paid and the taxes are taken out. It's really more about PR and spreading the love of vinyl and the communal aspect of fans loving SOMETHING in this crazy mixed up world. Thanks again so much for being such a great love spreader! Can't wait to see your wrapup videos!
Hey Robert, I watched some other videos and I was sure this record store day sucked. You’ve changed my mind. They just showed crap. You showed me some stuff that I may actually be interested in. Thank you.
The Lennon sampler is a 12" and yes I'll buy it bcause it'll have a different jacket. The Harrison titles are zoetrope pressings which are a little cooler than a regular PD.
Good luck getting that one - especially the glow in the dark version. Quantities will be limited. I wish the Lennon estate would make more of these. Same goes for last year's 9 EP set. They could have pressed 3X as many as they did and it still would have sold out.
I read the list earlier and i thought the exact same thing about the Linda Ronstadt boxset. I have all those records like 5x over. Lol nobody needs a boxset and i love Linda Ronstadt. Very excited for the Jim Croce live album that one sounds very cool.
Great as always.......my intrest is.......maybe Little Richard, but really don't need it! Maybe Romones? and before I forget.........urahoot! And Thank you! intrested in Rockabilly Heroes and Vince Guiradi, maybe Little Richard, but money is tight
Imagine if they sold furniture the way they sell music these days: "Here's your new sofa sir... And here's an extra pile of wood and fabric scraps we had left over from the production process that comes with it. You're welcome!" What the hell am I supposed to do with that!?! I buy a sofa, I just want the finished product, and if I buy an album, I just want the finished album, not the demos, the takes, and other nonsense for an additional disc... There's a few albums I'd like a reissue of, straight up, but can't get it unless I get them with all this extra crap at greater cost. This is why originals still hold value, at least for me, and I'm prepared to wait till they show up somewhere because of it.
There's actually an RSD title I would be interested in this time around- the live Television. But I'll probably be working- and I refuse to feed the flippers. Oh well.
Osmium by Parliament is a nice intresting release especially because the include their non album single, the Breakdown on it. Steve Mancha aka Clyde Wilson (leadsinger of one of the other hotwax/invictus acts, 100 Proof Aged In Soul) did the leadvocals on the single and he is great on it. I have Osmium on cd also with the single and the other bonustracks but nice it comes out now on vinyl, Im shure gonna get this one. 👍😊
The US version of the Monkees record is extremely hard to find in mono and expensive. I hope this is the pressing and not a Canadian or Australian fold down stereo copy. HooDoo blues looks interesting, love this blues comps. Hope you MC your local store again.
I love the bootleg live albums released on RSD that are sourced from a handheld recorder in the crowd, where you can hear the conversation of the idiots standing next to the recorder, complaining about how much the band sucks. My favorite. Worth every penny.
A Linda Ronstadt boxed set... If I was a record store owner, I would just assemble those albums from my bargain bins and make people buy those. The boxed set is probably digitally sourced, too. And they can't use the "her albums are common but they were all played to death" excuse like they can for the Monkees. Her albums are usually plenty clean. Come to think of it, I have never bought any RSD or Black Friday titles. Weird. There are some cool ones, though. They should do a novelty version of Gandalf with the wrong record inside like when it first came out.
Aw I’m lining up for Fleetwood Mac picture disc! lol. All the novelties. it’s fun, neat, first time and limited to 7000. People love picture discs and they sound great. No hate ❤️ and Fleetwood Mac themselves is promoting it. And ParkLife is a zoetrope and 30th anniversary literally to the week. Beatles 3” is live cuts from Ed Sullivan show never released on wax. ❤️
That Roches album is still one of the best sounding LPs I own. Have fun as RSD. I gave up on RSD years ago. My one favorite store with nice wide aisles is long gone, so being in a wheelchair, now it's just too much of a hassle.
There is movie starring Selena Gomez in preproduction about Linda Ronstedt. That's the reason for box set. And there are a lot of people not searching fleamarkets for used records. And Chris Rekkid Talk need that box!
Please check out “THE BODYSNATCHERS” EP on RidingEasy Records. Recorded in the studio live in 1978, The Bodysnatchers were the first punk band recorded in Austin, Texas.
I gave up on Record Store Day years ago. Quality, prices, long lines, flippers, gimmicks etc. Yes there are still jazz fans watching your channel, at least one anyway..
Lots & Lots of live albums this RSD. I am looking forward to Nocturne by Siouxsie & The Banshees ( Robert Smith on guitar 🎸 on this one ) I have the DVD of it. The Tom Verlaine box is one I need. No bonus tracks on any of the four albums but two of the four are hard to find. Television & Talking Heads one's are intriguing. Pretty solid RSD 👌.
@@RobertFithen I have an OG Nocturne and its an great album. Sounds good and Siouxsie & the Banshees are on fire and btw, they were the best, most professional, live playing post punk band at that time 😊👍
This is the first mention of the Parliament debut. I’ve never heard of Dave Pike. Nancy Sinatra is closer to $20 in California. On the other hand I see no reason for the Linda Ronstadt box set. The live RSD release that is my #1 want is the Wall of Voodoo. The Bernie Worrell sounds a bit like Now and Then by the Beatles. If my memory serves me right Mind Games is a bit of a shiny turd. The Cure picture discs are annoying. The Nuggets and Yardbirds look good. The Punk 45 is good and is a reissue. I have always wanted a Rumors picture disc. You forgot to mention the Joe Pesci record from the 60’s.
That Dave Pike LP is "Out There!" If you're not tripping on acid, it may be an odd listening experience or a pleasantly odd one. Lots of early jazz/rock styled tunes, some free form with sax, organ and what sounds like a mini-Moog synthesizer and fuzz guitar. Think of a few jazz cats getting high on acid one afternoon and saying "Hey! Let's record something right now baby!" And this LP was the result. Various tempos, ranging from swing feel to acid jazz/rock. More bizarre than Don Ellis (if you've ever listened to his stuff) but not as cheesy as Big Band Moog, (but also worth a laugh. If you can get through them. Therein lies the challenge).
Do you know which rsd release has pool table/pool balls on it? I listened to it the other day and liked it but forget to writevit down. Im kinda just interested in that, the south park release cause itll probably be fun and the beatles 3" toy. 😅😅😅
Hi, i think RSD is a real missed opportunity for music lovers. Personally my favourite format of vinyl to collect is 12" singles. For example every year the Cure release another pointless picture disc that only really appeals to people who are never going to play them or are going to sell them on the second hand market for an inflated price. If the Cure or their record label really wanted too release something of real value to their true fans then they would release the original 12" singles of A FOREST or PRIMARY , etc. Those records are near impossible to get and if you can get them they often cost over £100 and are in bad condition. And i hate all the useless live albums they keep releasing on RSD. Personally i think RSD would be so much better if as Robert said labels would release good quality represses of expensive, hard to find records that real music fans desire but can`t acquire. There`s so many vintage Psyche albums i`ll never be able to own because of rarity and cost and RSD could solve that problem. Cheers from England.
Are You New? Jenny Lewis has had been in music for decades and has released 14 albums, Five and an archive collection with Rilo Kiley and 5 Solo albums and a couple more as a member of a duo or group - She used to be a child actor so did Taylor Momsen, Pretty Reckless, bad example - I think she is dying. Air - Kelly Watch The Stars David Bowie - Waiting In The Sky Jenny Lewis - Puppy And A Truck Kate Nash - Back At School Sisters Of Mercy - Body And Soul Corey Taylor - CMF2B... Or Not 2B Ultravox - Steve Wilson Extended Mixes Wilco - "The Whole Love" Expanded Box Set. and as I live nowhere near a record store all these will be brought online, hopefully at retail prices.
Yes, the list is quite an improvement this year... though I hope nearly none of the record stores owners will order the Linda Ronstadt box set.. this is just plain stupid so I hope it doesn't sell because otherwise next year get ready for a bunch of stupid box sets... I remember last year or the year before, Walmart went through her catalogue doing the Walmart Edition treatment and I don't think those were big hits (same happened to Billy Joel BTW, I still see some of those records when I go check) My main disappointment is from Music On Vinyl, they're releasing a record from Global Communication (UK electronica/ambient to sum it up roughly) which was a single on 2 records in on 1 lp for the 30th anniversary with only a 1000 copies and I'm pretty sure not one will arrive stateside. I'll try to bug my local store but I'm pretty sure they won't even be able to order it. It'd be ok if it was a "RSD First" but no, they said it was a RSD Exclusive so this is going to show up on Discogs 2 weeks later at ridiculous prices to which you would have to add exorbitant shipping costs (coming from Europe). Oh well, c'est la vie... But I'd rather not know about it as ignorance is bliss Anyway, that Gandalf and Parliament are really tickling my fancy ... PPS: other disappointment is no Taylor Swift record.. ;-) Won't be many Swifties in line this year..
@@RobertFithen for sure it sort of on the cusp of being an album that doesn't need an expensive reissue but hey ya know if someone needs it and has a hard time finding then they will be stoked to pick it up. enjoyed the video!
Nothing on the list for me as much as I hoped for not enough Rock I don’t need another Dio live album and I was one who bought the Verve Pipe didn’t stand in line but I bought it. Plenty of great releases coming out on normal release dates to me seems like they are running out of stuff to release.
Is it me or are all these modern vinyl releases have sh album covers. They seem to just slap together the quickest sh they could find. Nothing iconic about album cover art anymore. IMO. not that would waste my money on any of this stuff. anyway. The only time I would want to buy a new vinyl is for same reasons that you expressed. Finding an original pressing is either difficult or super-expensive. But I have no need for a new vinyl release of Paul Mcartneys butler sings Beatles acoustic classics and bs like that. I would rather just collect old used records and CD s.
