I would have so snagged that Emerson, Lake and Palmer "Pictures at an Exhibition" record I spied at 3:48 that was flipped past! Sucks that there are no record stores in my area. I'd have to go up in DC or down into Richmond before I would find one. To think just a few years ago, we had no less than THREE record stores here in town. So still miss Blue Dog Records that used to be downtown. Sun Valley Serenade!! (7:03) I've skied at Sun Valley many times and absolutely love it there! Appropriate in a way to see that Return of the Jedi CD at 6:43, as that same day you recorded this (4/20/2024), the local minor league baseball team (Fredericksburg Nationals) was hosting a "Star Wars" night. I have a season ticket there, so of course, I had to go.
Happy belated records, Store day Ology, yes, I would love to have that Donna Summer record although I have all the mixes on various 12 inch singles. It would be nice to have them all on one disc. One I was hoping to see was the animals greatest hits or retrospective not sure what it's called. Target had this very same one last year should've bought it. I didn't now it's gone, but I see that it's been released again for Store day this year, the monkeys look cool. Thanks for the video always fun and interesting and informative.
Lately this is how I have been doing RSD. I go about noon time to my local store. No line but a bit more available than you would think. I did manage to score two of the things I wanted this way - Collective Soul and Jazz Dispensary. Today I saw an online store having left-overs available to order so I got the Cheech & Chong Up In Smoke. I was also wanting the Airplane Soundtrack but my store was out of it as well as online. I saw you passed one there in your dig. Oh well. I love Rock and Roll Heaven. I started going there back in the early 1980s in Jr. High School!
2:15 Hey, Record-ology. Thanks for the great Record Store Day video. I've never shopped at a record store during Record Store Day mostly due to the crowds, but also because generally, my wide musical tastes funnily enough do not coincide with most of the RSD releases offered in any given year and the prices can be a bit off-putting too. However, I would have scooped up that 'Gandalf' record by that 1960's psychedelic rock band of the same name, but I do have that album on a difficult-to-find CD that I bought many years ago, so that's probably good enough for me. Congratulations regarding finding an excellent RSD score yourself. :)
I didn’t directly participate in this year’s Record Store Day, but I did find a Tommy Roe LP for only a buck at the thrift store today (which I didn’t realize that I already had until after I bought it… although it’s actually in better condition than the copy I already have)!
Hey! I got most of the ones I wanted. Elton, Monkees, Average White Band, etc. My wallet was crying by the time I left, but had enough for pancakes for breakfast. LOL. If you like Chris Issak, his album is pretty good on some songs he sounds like Elvis!
Avoid the crowds?? / That is one of the best parts of RSD / all the same people gathering that love vinyl hanging out & talking music. So much fun I arrived 3 hours early & those 3 hours flew by with all the great conversations before the store opening. I picked up the Jerry Garcia box set (4 albums) & the Talking Heads live (2 albums) that got me to my $100 budget / but I got 6 records for that price so I went away happy.
Record store day was fun, a couple of stores near me take this opprotunity not only do the RSD albums but use this day as chance to run storewide sales, basically a black friday out it. Didn't get anything off the official list but scored some great deals on John Williams and the Boston Pops Pops in Space (star wars/superman, Close Encounters) Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack Metallica Ride The Lightening Styx Paradise Theater fun day
I went to record store day and got the Kate bush release. It is a printed picture in one side that doesn’t play music and the other side is white and plays some music. Pretty cool. Only 3000 released!
I went early this year as The Residents album I wanted was in stock with two copies 900 around the world). I arrived at 6.10 and was number 16 in line. The cafe was open at 7.00 and I got a cuppa tea and they were calling the numbers at 8.00. I got back to bed before 10.00 and was back up 11.30. One guy before me had a list of between 20 and 30. Unfortunately, he could only buy a max of six titles. I would have liked to browse further, but the numbers of people and being tired prevented this.
I gone to only record store on rsd day on apr 20 2024 was it full of people, I collect 50s-70s, I'm 40 year old. My mom lived it in that time, I do text here ask if good so I do t get bad group or, singer since she in power wheelchair. I got hard to find ones I love 50s-70s vinyl music I go, all time know, the owner we chat music all time, I go learn new things, from owner like who, wrote music for who I buy or got varry cool
The Return Of The Jedi is a clear disc. Hope this helps. (It has one track on it, I believe). There's also a Darth Vader (Empire Strikes Back) which is a shaped disc. (Also comes in a clear non-shaped version).
I was over from the UK at the end of last month and really wanted to visit that store but unfortunately I couldn't make it happen. Definitely next time 🤞 I could spend a whole day in there for sure ! Glad you got the record you wanted.
Hopefully, my other regular haunt has a copy of the Nas remix album left! And, hopefully, my turntable, which needed an emergency repair, will be ready for pickup next week! Peace.
NY NY Passed on the Donna Summer remixes of (1) song I like but that's not good enough. Passed on The Doors live set. And a few others I would have like that were not primary. I have all the major Elton John on CD and some LPs, so NO. Got 2 -LP Nat King Cole Chi. 1953, Alan Parson Project Pyramid sessions, Warren Zevon The Wind 20th Anniv, (Black Friday release- Flying Burrito Bothers 1976 Live NYC Bottom Line. I am going to try at Rough Trade for the few others i did not find downtown. That is Rocky Horror, Bowie Waiting for the Sky, Ian Hunter amongst others. Shops can post what remains, now, if the do online orders. Had to skip Rough Trade records on 6 Ave. at Rockefeller Ctr. At 9 am the line was 3/4 of the way from 6 Ave. to 5 Ave. NOT for me, so I and went back downtown and 'only' waited 1 hr. 45 min for a small crowded shop in Greenwich Village.
I got a zoetrope record of They Might Be Giants album Flood. Unfortunately they are a tad tricky to work with to see the animation correctly. As for record day I saw the list, and thought "nah I'll pass" and focused my budget on other things. Right now I want to focus on getting comedy records that are not on other formats, and/or out of prints.
I don't know where your located but they had a record store day here in Melbourne florida off of Babcock street at Savvy Vynal record store. I didn't go because i just don't need anymore record right now.
Def not your thing lol but got my fav kpop group Ateez one (first kpop group to have a rsd!) and Him awesome Heartagram vinyl. I went before work and 40min drive/long line meant I was sooo late so had to grab what I came for and run😅 would have grabbed the rocky horror picture show if where I went had it.
