I'm so glad you made this video. You showed so many great bands. Once I saw where the Beatles ranked, I knew what would be number one. I definitely need more Ramones records and a few more Bowie. I will be on the lookout for that Live Bowie album. Take care and have a great weekend. 🏈
Damn I pressed the wrong button You live in Bakersfield?? I turned up there once, downtown, a freshed faced youth with a rucksack, trying to hitch a ride, I was advised to catch a bus and get outta town PIL Metal Box. The White album. My mates mother had a signed copy of no: 2 !!!!!!!,it was scratched to f**k The cover alone...... Dave!!! The artists I followed through my life The Cramps!! Poison ivy wearing a bikini brandishing a machine gun. Say no more! Great Vid
Bikini Girls With Machine Guns is so cool. I was born in Bakersfield. Moved to LA to go to college. Lived in LA County for 40+ years. Moved back to LA a few years ago. Downtown is pretty rough. Especially after the lockdowns. A lot of the trendy businesses went belly up.
Damn, bro. That KMart sticker is the best. I've got a Sears and Fedco. It was actually you that introduced me to In A Silent Way on your best albums of '68. I was like, "Best? What's happening with the Vinyl Richie, here?" Listened to it in Canada on a trip and damned if you weren't completely right. It's my favouite MIles. Enjoyed the vid!
Another awesome video dude! I really enjoy seeing how deep your vinyl collection goes. Here are 5 of my takeaways: 1. I was waiting for The Dickies! I guess they don’t have enough variety of material? Not sure but know you love them. 2. You pegged a mention of my favorite Bowie album & song- Alladdin Sane, Panic In Detroit. Nailed it! 3. Trout Mask Replica- “that album sucks, dude” - classic Richie remark! 4. Anybody who can flow from conversation about Buck Owens into PIL is my soul brother! And you are! 5. I respect you too much to not revisit Bowie Live. I’ve had it in my head that it is a ‘bad’ live album. I must of messed up there and it will be on my turntable today. -----// love ya brother! Keep ‘em coming, you’re the best!
Cool video. Fun!!! Thanks to Melinda, too. Loved your Captain Beefheart comment (about Trout Mask Replica - because, it's true: it truly sucks! I also love Clear Spot though). These threads made me check my artist/bands, I have the most albums of. Thought it would be a rock act like Pink Floyd or Bowie - turns out, it's Miles David. By far, even. Surprise. Did you - btw - do a video about your favorite Live albums? Probably, right? Cheers from Germany!
I’ve never done a favorite Live albums video. It is a good idea because there are a lot of them. I would like to see more people do this thread. Melinda came up with a good idea.
Great video, what a good way to get to know people, by what they have the most of in their collection, I gotta say you threw me a curveball with the Buck Owens ,and Bowie as your #2 I see that! Peace, Vinyl.
I want to steal your collection. I've been beefing up my Bowie, lately, but I still have a long ways to go. I don't have that Early Lou record, but I agree on your assessment of Berlin. Excellent presentation!
Ramones is 1st for me 66 records, Cramps 35 records, Kinks 21 records, Jefferson Airplane 20 records, Dickies 18 records, wait a minute are we counting 45's also, na can't do that. Cool to see your totals. Good idea for this video.
Thanks for making this video. Our collection are somewhat similar. I love videos like this when people talk about their love for rock n roll. Great collection, btw. I may try to put a list together of my top 20 and send it to you
Watched a few of these now. Really enjoy them. Not just the artists, but the amount of records people own. Cool stuff, Richie. Think I'm still the only dude w/out a single Ramones album. Fun watch.
Interesting video, Rich. A lot more "classic rock" than I expected. RE: BH Surfers 'Independent Worm Saloon': it was produced by John Paul Jones, not Jack Bruce. Saw them on that tour opening for Nirvana.
I don't remember Ritchie saying that but of course you are right I'm finding it hard as in Australia getting it on vinyl here just as Ritchie would say just a. Fantastic albam long live the buttholes peace and love lloydy
Did this man just say 3/5 time!? Every member of Cannibal Corpse are thinking to themselves, "Is this dude trying to kill us all!? That science doesn't exist yet." I am also a huge "Subterranean " fan. In fact, that record and "Brain Drain" are my two favorite Ramones records. I think the keyboards on "Subterranean" throw off die hard punk fans. They were doing an 80's thing and it worked very well. Probably better than when Van Halen did it. Another fantastic addition to your collection of videos. Prost!
Great list. Love buck owens. I don't have anywhere close to the number of records as you. My top 3 are Hank Williams Jr 22, Motorhead 14, and Tom Petty 8.
I’m pretty sure Mikes Davis is by far my #1 followed by The Cramps and Pink Floyd. Amen on Cramps bootleg. I have a few repeats, they are very good at doing that. If I include the vinyl without covers it would be bigger. I have seen those Bad Music bootlegs but I am trying to be patient for an original. I guess I got the original vinyl so I only need an album, maybe I will get a boot leg. Fela Kuti it pretty hefty also which I noticed you did not show. Okay I’m rambling, sorry. You got a hell of a lot of records to put away
Richie, cool idea for a video. What you have most in your collection ! Not familiar with Gnod. Did the artsie fartsie crowd get the Mofi version! Lol Kmart sticker on the Buck Owens album is Fantastic. Cool shirt 👔. The Cramps wow, I know you love em but didn’t think there was that many! Excellent. Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman
I thought this was a good that Melinda came up with. I would like to see more people in the VC do this. I knew I had a bunch of Cramps but didn’t know how many.
I might do this at some point. I'm pretty sure one of the artists will end up being someone I don't like but I have a bunch of their records that I inherited.
Always enjoy your vids wish the Dickies was a huge per cent of my collection I only have to skrinking and mole men both awesome colour very envious of worm saloon hard for me in Australia to get millions of dead cops big per cent of my collection peace and love to U brother Lloyd y PS Zappa quote don't you eat that yellow snow
Pd brother Germany cus of some law that passed they can release bootleg at there club only a certain amount and I saw I think 3 cramps ones fugazi bad brains minor threat check them out as this happens recently I dout they will last my dealer has contact over there and they sent him a bunch I think he said only 1000 copies per recorded gig peace and love lloydy
I do enjoy your alternate channel "Mean MrMayo". 30 Beatles records! 😉 I gotta say, it's enjoyable to see the amount of records from individual bands that people who have been gathering wax for half a century uninterrupted have... gathered. Sentence structure is for children. Love that The Cramps is at the top of the heap. I don't subscribe to Belinda Burpy, although a voice in my head keeps telling me to like, subscribe and hit the notification bell for her channel because it really, really helps her channel out. Cheers! Tom
Hey Richie - I have to agree that Clear Spot is one of Beefheart’s most enjoyable albums. A lot of people piss on that record. I get obsessed with artists I like. Sometimes end up with some lame records, which I’ll keep all the same. Just starting on my Buck Owens journey. Concentrating on picking up his 60s stuff for now. PiL records are hard to come by. Bowie’s last two records were pretty good. Great video. Cheers.
To be honest no one needs 24 Buck Owens albums. Another good Captain Beefheart album that I thought of showing is Bluejeans and Moonbeams. It isn’t weird so most Beefheart fans think it is a turd. It’s actually a good Rock album. Thanks for leaving a great comment.
I liked the first PIL ending with Fodderstomp .. 10 minutes of studio talk " We only wanted to make the album with a minimum amount of effort which we are now doing very successfully " & they were great on American Bandstand & Tom Snyder.
The American Bandstand and Tom Snyder appearances were funny. From what I heard they spent the advance money on weed and they were running out of studio time. So they quickly knocked out a couple of long jams to complete the album.
Hey man. Great showing. I would love to have that many Butthole Surfers albums. Kudos. I got a shit load of classic rock albums by Floyd, Stones, Dylan, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Beatles etc. that I rarely listen to. Peace.
Hey Rich - This is an interesting video. I have that Smiths bootleg! The quality is, as you say, very good. I am not sure I can handle pulling out that many records! I mena, who is going to put them away? But, I am curious as to what my number one is.
I almost spit out my beer when you made fun of the people with the MoFI Miles Davis. Hahaha That was freakin’ classic! I never realized the Butthole Surfers had that many records. That’s a lot of buttholes!!! 😳 Cheers☘️
I have a number of Butthole Surfers bootlegs. The Miles MoFi records do sound very good but I’m not a fan of single albums on two 45RPM discs. The audiophiles that loved MoFi and are now outraged are clowns.
My vinyl collection is tiny compared to yours - but the most records i have by the same bands are easily: NIRVANA & DEFTONES _______________others i have a few of: Boards of Canada, Aphex twin, Dashboard confessional, Bon iver, Junior boys, Teen daze, Washed out, Pearl jam, Smashing pumpkins, Weezer
I was a big fan of Alien Sex Fiend and have 15 of their albums. I bought their first album when it came out because of the cover. I didn’t see them until late 80’s.
@@vinylrichie007 I pretty much gave up on Alien Sex Fiend after It -The Album, although I've bought occasional bits and pieces since then. First two are by far the best though. Can't say I'm overly keen on the US cover of the first album though!
I been watching you for a couple years and you are kind of inspiring me to do a video of this. I have all The Ramones & Misfits LPs & 7"s which are alot but just counted up my Beatles which actually is not my favorite but my parents & Uncle left them to me after they passed. I love them and greatful but my teenage childhood was Punk & , Metal. But Classic Rock is definitely the soundtrack of my earty life
l like the long video, gives me something to do during three or for smoke breaks... cool idea for a vid... l wouldn't have guessed Jefferson Airplane has that many albums... and that's a lot of Cramps too... l have 62 Coltrane records by far the most of any artist... take it easy
Hey Richie..this is a cool video..Zappa!!! The Stones..I love Satanic Majesties, you may be right about including Dandelion and We Love You, I never considered that…love Muddy Waters..Folk Singer is soooo good…Electric Mudd is awesome..I don’t think Muddy liked it…24 Buck Owens albums!!! Sgt. Pepper❤❤👍I have become obsessed with Bowie…your number one is crazy..I might need to check them out..great stuff❤👍glen
Hi Pat, great subject and list of bands/artists. I have lots or records by the artists you mentioned apart from Bob Dylan (can't sing - shame) and Buck Owens and also Black Flag and Red Cross/Kross. British punk for me - is it best or not? Early PIL with Keith and Jah Wobble is best for me. I also have a section full of The Heads, Joy Division and also Sun Ra. Best to avoid those Bowie comp cash ins especially the RSD release of World Of Bowie - that one really sums up the idiocy of RSD. Glad to see The Cramps was your number one - that Bad Music is fantastic, I also just got a great fanzine of their early gigs/pics/interviews. Cheers, Paul
The idea of releasing rare or unreleased material on RSD is what attracted me. Now it is more about popular artists and down right common albums. Jah Wobble was cool but Keith Levine was great in PIL. I must admit later versions of PIL were also great in concert. I would love to see more people do this thread.
@@vinylrichie007 Try an early studio album like Hex Induction Hour from 1982 or This Nation's Saving Grace with Brix in the band from 1985. Please watch this superb live performance from the Tube 1983 with John Peel introducing : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yE-6xoh1khg.html Cheers, Paul
You must've purchased that Dickies tee at the Whisky show you saw recently. It's a fairly new version of their Fan Club logo. I discovered PiL before I heard Sex Pistols, and still like PiL more than the Pistols...although I love the Pistols, too. Really dig that wonky Commercial Zone PiL logo on the label. Always wanted that on a shirt. I need to find that generic Concert LP.
I could argue that PIL is better than Sex Pistols. I had the PIL logo t-shirt and the PIL logo on the rear window of my Firebird. Yeah I got the shirt at the gig.
This was an interesting idea. Clear Spot is actually the only Beefheart album I have. I like it but have not explored more. I'm impressed with the Muddy Waters and Buck Owens collection. I have one Cramps album, so I have a long way to go. I think Jerry Lee Lewis or Bob Dylan would head my list. Cheers.
It would be interesting to see your top 12. Beefheart’s first two are worth checking out if you like 60’s Garage, Psych and Blues. Spotlight Kid, the album that came out before Clear Spot, is worth checking out. Bluejeans and Moonbeams is more commercial but very good.
"Off The Bone" has the song "Good Taste" (which might be my second favorite Cramps song after "New Kind of Kick") that "Bad Music" doesn't have. Both have those awesome covers. It's super weird that they've gotten popular with the Wednesday dance thing.
Vinyl Richie - great video. I love the fact that the Cramps are the band you have the most of. I would love to say, “that band sucks dude” - but the Cramps are great. Hats off to you and Melinda Murphy. I think this exercise is almost like a personality test. I liked the fact that you highlighted the albums that were good entry points. My top three would be Dylan, Jam/Style Council/Paul Weller and the Wilco. By the way the Jam live release “Dig the New Breed” is my favorite label issued live album.
By the way who the hell are the Gnods? You stumped me on that one - could not find them at all on Amazon then did a search on RU-vid for the Gnods and everything came up “gonads” - hilarious! Then I searched Gnod on RU-vid and finally found some listings. I am going to try them out - thanks for the suggestion.
I only have two Jam albums. I have a two disc DVD of the Jam that us a pretty good retrospective. Is Dig the New Breed with horns and stuff? I believe Gnod are from Manchester. Most of their releases are in small quantities. I’ve only seen an album by Gnod in the store once. I’ve had to buy most online and often from England. This exercise is a great way to see inside the collection and the collector. Thanks for the great comment.
Some interesting bands in your top 20. Love some B Surfers, PIL, Black Flag. Dont think Ive heard any Buck Owens. I was waiting for the Cramps. Disappointed you didnt have any Dokken 😂
You showed some great Covers. Alice Cooper did some great covers Seven and Seven is by Love, Hello Hooray by fricken Judy Collins and lastly Anthrax covered Got the Time by Joe Jackson.
I’ve got a long way to catch up with ya sir. But my cramps collection is growing. It’s getting pricey to say the least. Still the best band I ever saw. Not many singers take their high heeled boots off mid set and drink the sweat from them. Just the best.
The Wednesday series has made the Cramps cool with non-fans. I recently looked online for the Goo Goo Muck 7”. The cheapest I found was $250. That is crazy.
@@vinylrichie007 It makes me wish I’d have spent my money on only their stuff back in the day. There a copy of human fly for $350 on eBay at the moment. I’m glad the kids are getting into it and learning about how great the Cramps were though. The nest thing will be Cramps t shirts in Walmart!
Neil Young was a few short of making this list. Jethro Tull were a favorite band. I didn’t like Passion Play when it came out and I didn’t listen to any Jethro Tull after.
@@palacerevolution2000 It was all peace and love in the pit until they had the Punk episode on CHIPs. Around 86 a lot of dicks started going to the all age shows. By 87 I wasn’t going to as many shows. At least the all age ones.
I guessed Cramps would be no 1. 😅 Also great to see the love for Redd Kross. A band you don’t see that often in the so called vinyl community. Brilliant (except for their latest which I didn’t like at all…)
If I remember right the last Redd Kross had one song on each side that did not fit at all. They may even be the first song on each side. I did like the rest of the album but probably not that much. I haven’t played it again after the initial listen.
Not sure how much you are willing to spend for a Beatles mono box set, but there's a mint condition version for sale at the Infectious Groove record store in Amherst, NH. Don't recall the price. Google 'em if you want. Love your Dickies shirt and seeing that killer Alien Sex Fiend record on the shelf behind you. And don't even get me started on the Cramps. One of my fave bands ever. Someday I'm going to frame the signed setlist I got at their last Boston show. They are much missed.
@@vinylrichie007 ok, I must have misheard you when talking about Rubber Soul. I guess you meant if there was a mono box for that one album, you might pick it up. That's what I get for listening to the video while at work. haha!
@@vinylrichie007 Even if that were true, it's flawed logic. Moonlight Mile alone cancels out Beggars. If You Gotta Move and I Got the Blues are "boring", what are the other two?
Off the bone is about 5% better and that is a great accomplishment when you are comparing a record to Bad Music for Bad People. I hope you pre ordered the new Dickies comp from Cleopatra records. Gary Newman and Ministry are doing a show in Cleveland. What a bill. I will have to make the 3 hour drive.
Head over to Atom Industries and get the 2 lp copy of FEAR 'have another beer with FEAR' I won't explain why. You will just have to trust me on this. Every song is different.
Not that anyone gives two shits, but in reference to this topic, my list (in order) would be … *Redbone* *Frank Sinatra* *Disclose* *Uriah Heep (circa 1970 to 1974)* *John Coltrane* *Ella Fitzgerald* *Broken Bones* *Black Sabbath (circa 1970 to 1981)* *James Marshall ‘Jimi’* *Hendrix*
@@vinylrichie007 -*Redbone* released 8 studio albums & 1 Live. Though I know in late February of this year a CD titled *Redbone A’s & B’s* is going to be released by independent British record label *BGO,* as well. Though unfortunately it will not feature my two favourite songs the band ever laid down on wax. One titled *Fate,* the other *Emotions.* Both tracks from the LP of their’s I would also rank as my fav. out of the 8 they ever released, as well. It being called *Message From A Drum.* Anyway, enough of me waxing poetic about one of my most beloved bands ever & by doing so, undoubtedly boring the rest of your “followers” to tears in the process, as well. Have a good one. Cheers!!! ✌🏼
That off the Bone is solid, i just dont like the cover art. I have the Gravest Hits EP as well and its thr best soundings Human Fly and The Way I Walk even over the 45s, the 12" is at 45rpm, so " audiophile" cramps lol 😆
@@vinylrichie007 i think thats legit, they were a bargain at 60-100 like a lot of the rarer punk 45s that haven't been repressed. Old misfits and Minot Threat go for thousands for one 45
I have 15 Byrds albums. I’m missing Younger Than Yesterday. They also have a couple of live records I would like to pick up. I currently have 15 Byrds albums. They missed the list by one.
It's a piece of sh*t. I think people claim to like it because other people claim to like it, but no one has the balls to tell anyone how shit they think it is. The only interesting thing about it is the cover and title. Dog sh*t music.
@@skutchwashere what you wrote is definitely part of the truth. There are many different groups of music listeners. 1. Group: people who say that they like a work of art because it is part of critically aclaimed list (kanon). They never really question if they really like it. 2. Group: people who confuse "interesting" with "like". They just like trout mask Replica because it is quirky and different. 3. Group: people that appreciate it as a piece of art because it tries something new. 4. group (mostly musicians) are bored by normal song structures, melodies, harmonies and rhythms. They love strange time signatures and music that is Hard to play. They tend to Admire music more then enjoy it. They more than the other groups like trout mask replica.
