Pete, you are extremely fortunate to own this delightful instrument. It really has a beautifully warm, delicate tone that really breaks the "annoying bright sound" stereotype that Yamaha used to have. Thanks for the video anyways!

Thank you Luke. In case you did not know, Yamaha purchased Bosendorfer and have incorporated some materials and techniques into the newer models. Hence the better tone!

Pete, you are one of the most accomplished musicians I follow on RU-vid. Will you consider posting a video to share your story (e.g., about yourself, your musical journey, etc). I have a Blue Yeti Pro microphone with four pattern settings. I’m going to put it on a stand and place it over the strings of my grand piano. Do you have any recommendations on the mic pattern setting and placement of the mic for the best recording?

I can't really recommend based on just a description. Too many variables. One mic? Omni a few inches away from middle C is a good start. But it depends on the sound of your room (if you room sounds is boomy, then cardiod might be better), what you are playing, what your instrument sounds like. As I said too many variables. Just experiment and use your ears.

@@PeteCalandra I tried it tonight using the four mic settings and it seems simple stereo sounds best…. I’ve never done this before…

@@PeteCalandra I ran a test and definitely the stereo pattern sounds best when I record the piano. I have the mic hovering about 8 inches above the strings but wonder: should the mic be pointed towards the strings or even towards the lid which is raised? I’m curious what you think works best for you when using one mic.
