Thanks for watching! Album should be out early-mid July. Follow me (Coatseller) on spotify: bit.ly/coatseller_SPOTIFY Get yourself a nice grandmother: amzn.to/2XCoULO
I like everything you are doing with your videos. My only wish is more music theory explanation for your chord choices, progressions, melodic ideas etc. Not a lot, but some. I liked when you broke down your synth string quartet ideas. But either way, thank you.
This is an admirable exercise, but as far as albums go it's starting to feel a bit formulaic. This is maybe the third time I was wondering if I had already watched this video before even though it says it was uploaded today. Again, I think the project is impressive, but it would be fun to see you pushing yourself a bit more structurally and compositionally. What about trying to use the synth more abstractly/texturally? Or same with guitar? Using instruments non-melodically or introducing an element of dissonance? What about a more varied rhythm/tempo? Something along these lines.
Those things would be interesting (and if you watch his other videos, he does play different styles of music), but since this is an album project it seems like he's going for a more unified vibe.
Thanks for the feedback! I wanted this album to have a general "sound" so that the songs sort of fit together better. But I may have gone too far in the same-ness. I think the album will sound a little more diverse when it's done, the videos feel a bit same-y. But I'll definitely keep this in mind for future albums.
Hey I have a question, I know you said that you use the drums you first recorded as a reference, but do you actually get to replace them a some point? Or just go with those?
tbh I don't like the sound of it. I installed it a long time ago but never actually used it lol. Been too lazy to remove it (but I also don't want to leave a hole at the bottom of the guitar).
@@marcobeltran7218 Yep, your personal preference was what I was thinking of when I posted the query. Having recently watched J Mascis play an entire gig with an acoustic guitar with a magnetic soundhole pickup I've begun to rethink the approach.
@@onceuponasynth thanks for the response. it's interesting to hear other peoples approaches to recording. I don't like to undo mod's I've made to guitars as you never know when that might be the sound which serves the song the best.
(Expanding on the analog vs digital-debate here...)(Good tutorial btw, made me tempted to get some drums but I dunno how much my neighbours would appreciate that)
