Right.. I go over almost every year, and finally, someone opened up a store near our house ! Sattahip had one towards Rayong. It closed about 5 or 6 years ago. Bangkok is going strong for records, especially Fortune Town Mall on King Rama IX road. and my favorite M. Tanakorn Records in Chinatown ( old Bangkok ) 🎵
Funny thing..I was streaming that Floyd through the back country of Thailand today ! The copy in store in Pattaya wasn't in good condish, really. I do have good footage in Tokyo, only bought 6 or 7 records there. Thailand is always good to me record wise Harris... About 20 more records from Fortune Town Mall in Bangkok. Nice trip, one more day at the beach, then.. The long journey home through Singapore and San Francisco this time around. Cheers from Siam !
You know, you're right ! I forgot to look below for the 2nd time going to Sabai Vinyl.I ran this video again because we went back to the mall yesterday. I uploaded the short version and wanted to show some.. Rock ! Thanks again, Roy ✌️
I think you and your family would enjoy it, although the 3 seasons .. hot hotter and hottest are a bit to adjust to. Nov - February is the best time to go. I'm so jet lagged this morning ! ✈️
I'm getting on a jazz kick again, Robbie. That debut Chase album is really good as well. I went back the next day to pick it up. Also bought a Russian copy of Graffiti Bridge by Prince.. Pretty rare, and it sounds terrific ! Spun it right there in that little shop.
Very nice little shop. My eyes went to the Wham and Beatles titles that are on the wall. Yes - Dizzy looked fantastic. I hope you are having a great time. Happy Birthday!
This is the last shop that I bought records at 2 titles, only. I always do best in Bangkok, about 25 records and 6 records in Tokyo. We're driving out to the country today to Green Mountain, taking Jum's Dad home, with one night in a nice resort. Flying to Singapore on Thursday, then San Francisco connecting to Reno. Happy Easter, Mark ! We are having fun and sad to leave ! Thanks for the B Day wish 🌐
It's cool that you ran into a familiar face in Pattaya. I always enjoy seeing the flips. Maybe one day I will make it to Thailand and Cambodia because I did enjoy Vietnam.
Let me know if you ever go, Randy. We are near the Cambodian border right now, Wednesday the beach, then travel through Singapore all the way to Reno ! Haha 🎵
I'm the same way, Mike.. I heard some German psych that I liked Amon Duul from the. early 70s.. I have some nice records to show in 10 days, or so from Tokyo and Bangkok. We started this journey at In and Out Burger in LA, right where all of the planes land at LAX ! Haha. It's been quite a journey, and good family time as well.
Hi JT!!! great video as always and so cool to see you meeting Roy at the record store. Looking forward to see your Tower Records finds, but man you should be laying on the beach instead, lol...... cheers and be well
I'm sunburned.. Seriously ! Not too bad, and nice to be on our local beach over here. Had Sai Keaw in Bang Saray. We have 4 more days, and then Bangkok to Singapore , then connecting to San Francisco, then Reno ! Cristian, I have 30 records, or so to enjoy, and show you guys when I get back ! Thanks, man ✌️
The best stores are in Bangkok. I will be showing all of that in a couple of weeks. It will be fun putting my Tokyo video together.. Saw Wa Dee from Thailand , Harry 🙏
No sh*t !! It's like a roaring machine of intensity ! I was surprised and blown away. Teenage Snuff Film is next for me after I soak up these records that I bought in Japan and Thailand. I'm up again.. I forgot to mention you in my show and tell ! I'm splitting up my Tokyo shopping and saving Disk Union Rock for next week. Thanks, Ben. Your good recommendations are starting to happen for me.
@@jtsrecordroom3963 All of their stuff is great & it’s not all full on but even the slower stuff does have a certain intensity too if you know what I mean. Don’t need a mention mate, it just blows me away that a bloke like you who has seen all the greats & already has a really deep & diverse collection is impressed by my little old Aussie recommendations 👍 Enjoy the rest of your trip. Cheers…Ben
Yes ! As far as I know.. the first record shop since the one in Sattahip 5 years back. or so. I hope they make it and hopefully expand. Thanks for watching !
Hey Jt, thanks for the tour. I’d second that opinion on the Lee Oskar album. He was the harp player in War, and is from Denmark. Very cool record. See you when you get back, my best to the family. Cheers.
I pass on that Lee Oskar LP often, War is a favorite band, and of course, the early stuff with Eric Burdon is amazing. The Lee album was too expensive, I might find it at Bill or Ted's or thrifting.. maybe ! Leaving Thailand Singapore tomorrow, then SF.. "All The Way To Reno" ! 😎
Some great Jazz titles in there, JT. That Straight Life from Freddie is a banger! The Dizzy is cool too. That Lee Oskar looks like an OG. It’s one of my favorite records. I spin my Lee Oskar quite a bit. Great to see vinyl thriving in all parts of the world again. Thanks for taking us along. Hope you and the family are having a great trip. I was going to call you but it’s almost 10:00 PM where you’re at. Talk to you later. ✌🏽
Freddie The Man Hubbard is what I always say ! One guy commented that this was the boring stack of records. There is more talent and genius in two of those records compared to that whole stack of rock, and makes those guys look like they're standing still and don't know how to read music let alone play an instrument ! Buddy Rich wouldn't even acknowledge rock guys or speak about it as a relevant genre..He knew Woody, Gene, Miles, Dizzy, Bird and all of the cats could play circles around pop / rock guys. That said.. I love rock and roll ! Haha ☺️ Do you have that particular Lee Oskar ?
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Yes I have a pristine OG of that Lee Oskar album. Buddy is a beast! I forgot to mention that record. I love Buddy’s stuff even though he was a bit of a prick. Can’t deny our love for rock and roll. Some people just have ears for meat and potatoes if you know what I mean. I don’t fault anyone for their narrow taste in music same way I don’t knock those who feed their ears with a buffet of genres.
My first drum teacher.. Al Vrgod was Buddy's fill in when he couldn't make a gig in Nevada. Al told me.. " Quit, you're not dedicated enough" !!! I was 9, and Al was right.. I'm a lazy musician 🎵
I should nail down a copy of that Lee Oskar.. I didn't know, that's why these flip videos are so great.. Guys, throw me amazing recommendations all of the time ! I saw you commented on Richard Rileys' outstanding Dinah Washington video. The ending was great with Louis Jordan and Miss D !!!
JT great video shopping in Thailand. Wow. Cool to see some Russian releases and how they differ. Interesting transportation, was that you on the elephant? Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman
No, I had rode an Elephant, and let me tell you, I enjoy standing there petting them vs. riding on their backs ! Haha.. A bumpy, slow ride with lots of pee and eating breaks ( the elephant in the wild, that is ) !! 🤣
A Latvian guy owns that shop, Steve ! He has some interesting titles and brought more in the next day. I bought that Chase debut w/ the Obi.. and a rare Russian Graffiti Bridge Prince ! Thanks always 🎵
There is a ton of Thai music of all.kinds, Steve . Thai Pop being #1.. kind of like K Pop and J Pop, but different. Much like soft rock taken to another level. Lots of rock, indie, and metal bands as well ! Leaving for home on Thursday. 😫
So when you buy records overseas, do you bring them back on the plane or ship them home? Im traveling to Central America this summer and of course thought about record shopping while I'm there.
I carry some on the plane, and most I pack in the middle of a big suitcase with clothes and stuff packed around, below and above the records. Then check the bag. The records are always fine, no problem. I have about 30 to bring home from Tokyo and Thailand, Kevin.. Thanks for asking !
Some like it because it's different and experimental. I'm gonna get a copy eventually to really soak it up on my turntable. Thanks, Mark.. Still in Thailand, and it is interesting to see those Russian pressings !
You guys always skip the music from the countries you visit. That’s where the good stuff is hidden. I can get Pink Floyd and Sabbath anywhere, but cant find a single Thai psyche LP in the US.
I get it, I buy what I like.. I travel to Thailand almost every year.. Let me know of some good Thai psych, please, I dont know about any, actually.. I am interested. Even 1 or 2 titles would be appreciated. Thank you. JT
Also, my wife is Thai.. So I hear a lot of Thai Pop. I do like the very interesting psych that has been going on for years and the newer psych scene as well. I'm just generally not interested in buying.. unless you have a total banger that you can recommend ! I'm going back again.. soon. Thanks 🙏 If you go over.. Go to Fortune Town Mall on King Rama IX Road in Bangkok. You will find what you like ( 7 or 8 shops in one mall )
@@jtsrecordroom3963 one big guy is Sroeng Santi who has Sabbath covers and guitar grooves, there are also a few Santana worshippers, and some cool hybrid folk/modern/rock groups like Mountain Stone, and occasional rock covers by Don Sonraiabob and others. Still getting my toes wet, but there seems to be a lot going on over there. It’s neat you go so often.
Agreed, there is a whole lot going on over in Thailand. A great store for that genre is M. Tanakorn in old Chinatown ( Bangkok ) Thanks for that list, I appreciate it. And I will use it. I'm a genre jumper, I move around often ! Haha 🎵
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Let me add, I was introduced to a thing of beauty in the form of Indonesian artist Nur Asiah Jamil via a Thai seller. Her modern gambus records are amazing. I would look into that stuff if you saw it.
