"A broken collarbone is a common injury. The collarbone, also known as the clavicle, connects the shoulder blade to the breastbone. Common causes of a broken collarbone include falls, sports and traffic accidents. Infants sometimes break their collarbones while being born." - The Mayo Clinic - mayoclinic.org
Symptoms of a broken collarbone include:
* Pain that increases when moving the shoulder.
* Swelling, tenderness or bruising.
* Skin over the break might look like a tent when gently pinched.
* A bump on or near the shoulder.
* A grinding or crackling sound when moving the shoulder.
* Stiffness or not being able to move the shoulder.
There's also those injuries where there is no break of the clavicle, but similar to above, swelling, tenderness, or bruising. No matter the outcome, Clavicle / Collar Bone injuries are among the most common that affect cyclists, no matter your chosen genre.
In this video, JOM of the Gravel Cyclist continues his recovery from a recent crash. Thankfully, his collarbone is not fractured, but there is extensive swelling around the clavicle / shoulder. Additionally, JOM is sporting lower back injuries and two fractured ribs. His recovery continues, three weeks after taking a serious tumble.
We sincerely hope you find this information helpful, but it in no way is indicative of professional medical treatment. What is working for JOM, may not work for you, consider consulting a medical professional for your treatment plan.

Well Done. Some great chances to service other hobbies and get a forced rest. ✅👍🏻

Amen to the difficulty sleeping and sneezing with broken ribs and clavicle. Now the next challenge is using that banged up left arm to grab goodies out of your back jersey pocket :) That was my personal challenge to myself when I broke mine. Good to see you on the mend!

The sneezing thing is real! Even those involuntary muscle actions are like "hell no, not happening".

A Canadian cyclist had qualified for a big race in France but 6 weeks before the race he broke one of his legs. He continued to workout with just one leg. When they removed the cast, the leg had no atrophy. Working out with the good leg had kept the broken leg in shape. He was able to go to race. Moral of the story: Keep on kicking burro.

Glad to see you're on the mend, JOM. Know your pain, very well. Fractured Coccyx aren't much fun either, neither the tyre burn mark beside my crack when the seat post clamp bolt snapped 😅😅 Cheers Sven

Rib fractures are quite painful. Unlike other fractures where pain subsides greatly after the first week or so, rib fracture pain hangs on quite a bit longer. Coughing and sneezing are very uncomfortable and breathing isn’t all that easy either. We could stop breathing to ease the pain but that’s incompatible with life. 😂 I’ve been there with rib and clavicle fractures. I didn’t find the clavicle fractures nearly as painful as other injuries. The second time I fractured my clavicle it went undetected until I had a chest CT for a pulmonary embolism that I sustained following surgery for a femur fracture several months later. All of this happened racing BMX. I’ve given it up. Only low risk riding like road and gravel now!😂

How are the shimano wheels holding up?

Zero issues with the wheels thus far. These are the carbon 12-speed specific variants.

@@GravelCyclist Good to hear. I picked up the previous version brand new and I've yet to ride them but I enjoyed my C-35 and 50's and never had any issues.

Shimano wheels aren't historically the lightest, but as you likely know, high build quality, excellent materials.
