Recovery During A Flash Flood

We got a call for a broken Gladiator in Pritchett Canyon. The call came in right before the time for the flash flood warning so it was definitely a race. We got in there quick but unfortunately the customer couldn't find his lug nut key. That slowed progress but then the storm hit. We ended up taking cover under a rock overhang and waiting for the rain to pass. After the rain slowed I had Shawn run back to the shop to get a lug nut key. Then we got the balljoints pressed back in and everything back together. We didn't have an axleshaft so we had to come out in rear wheel drive only. Everything went fairly smooth and we actually missed the worst parts of the storm. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

Just so everyone knows. The 4 wheel drive was working. However without both front shafts(we removed the broken one) the LOCKERS wouldn't engage because of a damaged ABS sensor so no power would go to the passenger front. That was why it was technically in 2 wheel drive. The front driveline was spinning, but it had nowhere to go missing one of the front axle shafts.

3 years ago I got into the offroad community with friends that knew what they were doing. We had a Pre-Moab meeting 6 months before the trip. Most had been there more than once. When it came to scheduling trail days Pritchett was the 1st day. The leader without hesitation pointed at me and said "you're not doing Pritchett". Didn't hurt my feelings at all. He knew my skill level and so did I. Very important not to get in above your head. I have made huge strides since then and value good advise.

@@equals-kl9hm Probably both. There's a difference between letting someone learn and throwing them into the fire. I agree that you can't learn if you don't try but it's a moot point if the rig is totaled and loss of life is much more serious than that. Plenty of people have died trusting cheap bolt in cages thinking they'll never roll. Then they roll on a trail with shit spotters and a loss of life occurs. That's not how responsible people wheel and teach those who don't know what to do or how to pick lines.

that buggy is just a work of art watching it pull. The centre of gravity with the wheelbase is just perfect. I love how instead of the front end getting light it just drops down and keeps pulling. Just watching the front and back start to squat and it just seems to pull even harder since the centre of gravity is getting lower. It acts like a wing on a sports car, the harder it pulls, the more it drives itself into the ground like the force of the wind pushing the sports car into the ground. I have only the videos to watch and my personal observation is the only thing trailmater has over the buggy in flat towing is weight. Trailmater is an amazing tow truck in its element which is recovery. It is so hard to explain this is words but I love watching that buggy pull. Yes I am a little weird oh well.

I think it is obvious, driving in that area takes a skill level that someone with a vehicle in desperate need of stronger suspension and larger tires would be challenged by. Great work gentlemen, and video. Keep up the good work.

Stronger than ADS suspension no But Reid Racing Knuckles yes It was way too much for my rig I always had short wheel base rigs prior Sami, TJ , XJ etc I wanted to see what my overland work truck could do and I found the limit😅

That storm trashed my truck - 1" to golf ball hail on the north side of town. The truck's grey and the hood looks like the friggin moon.

I'm in the high desert of AZ and I know the dangers of being in the canyons and washes during monsoon season. Good show Rory and crew for staying safe and getting the work done.

The storms in Utah are incredibly brutal. When the wind is high, it's like being in a sandblaster. It actually hurts and stings and can make your skin raw. The sand can pack into your eyeballs making it incredibly difficult to see. Then there's the rain. The altitude makes the rain really cold. There are no nice walks in the warm rain in this area of the country. The rain comes down at near freezing temperatures and that can make someone dangerously cold in a matter of minutes. And I'm not even going into the danger of flash floods which is always quite high and sneaky. Storms in Utah can be incredibly inhospitable and dangerous, fast.

I've seen them lugnuts before . It seems some people think a impact is the proper way to torque lug nuts . I prefer a torque wrench or at least a fore way lug wrench only because they don't strip or need recovered .

Great recovery again guys! Gotta love our Utah weather, sunny one minute and a down pour the next with flooding. We ran across that this past Sunday and we had a power loss for 2.5 hours. Fun times ! Take care guys and catch you on your next adventure.
