The recovery of a 40 ton JCB digger stuck on the beach at Mumbles bay Swansea, it got in to trouble on the Thursday evening as the tide was coming in, they tried to recover it while the machine was still running but couldn't move it, they tried again when the tide went out later that night but the machine was then dead which made the job a lot harder, we had the call on the Friday morning to assist with recovering the machine, we went down to access the situation that day and told them what we would need them to do to make the recovery possible, as we needed the sea front closing we weren't able to do the recovery till the Monday morning so we didn't disturb the local business's, we arrived Monday, carried out inductions for the site and went over the plan then got to work, we removed the track drive gears to allow the tracks to free wheel once it was up and out of the ground, we dug at the back of the machine so we were able to get on to the lashing eyes, set the winch up with 5 snatch blocks (pulley blocks) then began pulling, the machine come up and out the hole with no problems, we then took the winch off and chained it to a 35 ton digger to pull it along the temporary road way to get to the slip way, the tracked dumper was used to stop it rolling in to the back of the digger pulling it, we pulled the machine up and in to the compound at the top of the slip way so it could be prepared for the low loader to take it away, as we got to the top of the slip way the tide had come up and was at the bottom of the slip way, within 45 minutes all of where we had been working was under water.
