I love watching your videos Sage. You have motivated me to get back to running. Oh, let the haters believe what they want. If people do not wish to read studies and instead blindly listen to others, let them. Most of the people who are talking this crap can't do 1/8th of what you have done. Keep up the great content!

Interesting oil. I've never seen flax DHA products. Flax is mostly high in ALA, so that must be some refined oil you have there. For my own recovery smoothie I switch out the flax oil with a tablespoon of freshly ground flax seeds, and the dates with a banana. And I add 2 tablespoons of cocoa, and some spices: turmeric, black pepper, cayenne pepper, cumin, Ashwaganda (if I have it). To help recovery, during the day of my hard track workout I drink verbena tea and put some ground leaves in my morning smoothie. There's a great study that lemon verbena lowers the amount of exercise induced micro-tears in the muscle without hindering the hormetic effect of the trainingstress.[citation needed] If Sage ever develops manboobs it's probably from the fytoestrogens from the hops in his beer. Your body has multiple types of estrogen receptors. Different fytoestrogens bind to different types and there are differences in correlations to things like breast cancer. I've seen more manboobs on beerbellies (hops estrogens) and bodybuilders (dropped androgenic testosterone), than on vegans or Asians.

we love the Vitamix, but also Ninja is great or Nutri-Bullet is a smaller option for a really good blender!!!

What is your primary use? Smoothies? Or do you make frozen banana ice cream and also other things like making hummus? If so maybe one that has an attachment for a food processor would be really helpful. Our friend just let us use their Ninja that had an attachment for a food processor, and that made the easiest frozen desserts like banana nice cream and also makes hummus really well! And its only like $175 at costco. Vitamix is good because they have such good warranty but they are expensive, and if you want one that does more versatile things that is not the high end vitamix, maybe the ninja is a good choice!

im in 8th grade, sage ,I was wondering if you could make a video on how to run a sub 11min 2 mile and sub 5 min mile if you could that'd be great !

What happens if you wait longer than 15 minutes? Does the benefits from a recovery drink/snack start to greatly diminish?

15 is ideal but an hour is still very good. You have glut4 receptors that remain active up to an hour post exercise. These receptor in conjunction with others that are not exercise induced still do a very nice job with recovery. So your fine up to an hour post workout.

Do you freeze your bananas with the peel on? Might seem like an obvious question, but I'm sure your vitamix could handle blending frozen bananas with the peel and I've heard there is a lot of potassium in the inner lining of the peel.

no, I don't use protein powder ever. There is plenty of protein in this (I think) between the almond butter and soy. After this I had a bagel with hummus as well (and a salad/avocado).

Is there a type of date you buy? I had never had one before and bought what looked like just plain dates but then found that a serving size of five had 30g of sugar. Seemed like a lot. They did taste great though, haha

Those looked like Medjool dates from Trader Joes, great buy, we use those too but cheaper at Costco and organic. Medjool dates are the best to eat while running because they are the softest, and they are the best in smoothies! :)

I used to drink something similar. I haven't in a while because it usually makes me cold. Haha. I'll have to try it again this summer. All those berries are so good. Maybe try almond milk?

I've gone from competitive powerlifting where I was using *a lot* of vegetable-based protein powder, to marathon/ultrarunning where I occasionally use protein. I have to admit I saw no noticeable decline or improvement in recovery when I ditched the protein powder. My training week is pretty modest (I'm nearly 40, busy job, 2 kids etc), and nowadays my nutrition is focused around wholefoods - lots of organic fruit & veges with the odd beer. I take an Omega 3 supplement (from algae not fish), magnesium every now and then and B12 a few times a week... never felt better! Hi Sage! enjoying your channel a lot! I don't think that looking for lots of antioxidants just after a workout is the best option, as it diminishes physilogical adaptations that lead to mitochondrial biogenesis etc. There are a few scientific papers on that subject, if you're interested they are easy to find on google. Knowing that physiological adaptations last about 4-6 hours, I think that the best way to get antioxidants is at evening, as majority of adaptations have already take place. Keep with the great stuff!

Great video. Preparing for a Half-Marathon and I'm in the process of upping my mileage. That looks really good and I wish I could have made one of those yesterday. How much of each ingrediant do you use?

Throw some kefir in there, and this is great (you can make coconut milk kefir if you want a vegan form)! Gotta get those probiotics to aid in nutrient absorption.

I also recommend an inch or two of raw ginger (make sure it cut it against the grain because most blenders won't break the long fibers that run lengthwise) it adds some sweet & spicy to the mix which complement the dates nicely and can overpower some of the bitterness if you put green veggies in there as well. nutritional benefits: anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory & anti-oxidative: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3665023/

tubesockets120v Looks like a Ninja ultimate. I have a lower level Ninja and it isn't much better than the 20 dollar one must Mother gave me some years ago. It's still nice and easy to clean though.

The brand is ninja but they're f***ng horrible, don't get one. I've bought three of them and they've all broken with just normal use. Finally saved up and bought a vitamix. It seems like a lot of money at first but they last forever, so you're getting your moneys worth.

maybe we've been lucky but our Ninja has lasted for years without any issues. Probably not the most power though (it has trouble after about 6-8 dates...unless they are soaked in water). I believe it is the "Ultima" model.

Your taking alot of supplements that are hard on hormones.. (testosterone) Like flax and soy.. Regardless of hair on your chest and or you injury history.. What's your bloodwork look like ?

You should switch from soy milk to almond milk. Soy milk is highly acidic. Almonds are neutral. Endurance athletes are vulnerable to osteoporosis. The rest of your ingredients look fine.

I would not dare to say for sure. Maybe Sage can tell you that :). I know he said he is more or less vegan now, but has occasional cheat meal with some dairy.
