Hahah same, I have a textiles degree and the amount of times we were yelled at to iron our homework I'm always so tense now whenever I see someone doing anything without perfectly pressed fabric. Especially when the creases get sewn in. It still turned out well though!
Drew from Lone Fox!! I need a video of my 4 favorites together!! ASAP! I would love to see The Sorry Girls with Xo, MaCenna and Drew from Lone Fox! Definitely doing thrift flips into something boho, modern, fabulous!! You'all would break RU-vid!!
I had no idea people didn't know that the string holds the fringe there temporarily! I suppose young people wouldn't know that unless someone else told them, my Mom was an interior designer, she made curtains, DIY'd zillions of things in my life, which made me the creative "guru" I am today, I am lucky to have been taught so many handy, crafty, diy type things!
I know, with the fringe on you wouldn't even see the handles!! I'm kinda hoping it was Tibetan Silver, which is a silver and other metal mix, therefore I wouldn't feel so bad about it!! ♥️
Hey, just a tip! Don't tug on the fabric while sewing, the machine does that herself actually and tugging can break the thread, stretch the material, etc. Loved the video 😊
Will never get over how good the thrift/charity shops are in other countries, the cushion is on my list in my favourite mustard fabric everything I own is in
don't know what country you are in, but in my experience the trick with thrift stores is to go regularly. Since their stock changes so much, it's more of a treasure hunt than actual shopping.
@@Nerdygoddess in England unless you want to go all the way into the cities like central and Birmingham for the big ones, that are also super expensive, you have to stick with BHF or Cancer Research etc for stuff
I like how real you guys are. I'm totally fine waiting for the stump to dry out. Thanks for teaching me about the fringe. I didnt know about that. The wooden bead Garland was really pretty on the railing :)
I love that pillow, so easy but looks so beautiful 😍 In my experience silver turns really dark, almost black when it needs to be polished and since this trey didn't have any of that black "coating" but still you could tell that it hadn't been cleaned for a while, I don't think it's silver 😬 might be, but I don't think so.
I thought the tray was cute :) I think I would've liked to see it with a lighter color fringe though (the beige went well with the gold in the original but idk I think like a smokey white or v light gray would look better with the silver)
I love the pillow! Might want to iron or steam (whatever works for your fabric) before sewing next time. I'm always impatient to get going on a project, but smooth fabric makes a nicer finished product. Love your channel!
“This machine is just like a senior citizen. It needs stability. Same routine every day” “It’s only born in the 80’s” Also born in the 80’s. Also needs those things in order to function. I feel that machine 😂
17:52 If the tray is stamped with a ss on it the it is sterling silver. Which is 92%+ silver (very pure) or it might have a number stamped on it that tells you its purity. Just google what the number means. Silver costs $0.57 us per gram today so weight your handles. They look heavy. I made a serling silver ring once and it cost me $15 of silver, and it was way lighter than your handles.
That tray is aluminum, you can see in the hazing on the surface which did not go away with the baking soda and water slurry polish. Also, the handles bent just with hand pressure, which is a pretty good indicator that it’s aluminum.
Im 92% sure its silver _plated_ and not silver. As someone who does jewelry, chainmaille and art with silver in different forms, that tray just doesnt look right or make sense to me. Also, you really dont see rivets in silver works.. So, they are worthless. Theres no way to reclaim just the plating. Or maybe there is, but its just not worth it. Sorry. In Europe silver is stamped with 925, usually inside of a rectangle. There might also be a makers mark, two or three capital letters (JMK)/particular emblem (used by only the bigger brands), and a year stamp, letter and number (H8). Plated items are sometimes stamped with SP925 or just “silver plated”. I cant remember what really old silver items were stamped with, before sterling silver became the norm. My selective dementia strikes again :)
You don't go thrifting very often, do you? The tray is aluminum, but a silver tray that size in a thrift store would be $20 or so. Silver objects are, sadly, currently selling at under their melt value.
@Patriot Jefferson yes, that is true but irrelevant to my point. Solid sterling silver is still available at thrift shops, and selling for less than melt value.
@Patriot Jefferson jesus, moron, I know sterling silver and silver plate are different things. Take your ragey, confused mansplaining ass back to your mom's antique shop.
Thanks for blocking me. Did Mom find out you were using the computer on a school night? Sterling silver is sold to melt all the time, just like gold, enen cheapo 14k gold. Companies that can melt precious metals know how to price alloys and separate out the metals. That's what they DO.
I was so happy when you stopped working on the stump. My brain was screaming “you have to dry it first!” 😂. Not just to make it easier but so mould doesn’t form (which it definitely will if not fully dried). If it will fit, you can put it in your oven at about 200 for a while to speed up the process. 😉 just prop the door open a little (a wooden spoon works well). The bark would have come off so much easier too as the inside shrinks and pulls away from the bark when it’s dry. Good luck and can’t wait to see it finished!
When you make pillows in the future, a helpful tip is actually to make the pillowcase smaller than the dimensions of your insert! That way it will look fuller and not be such a baggy fit!
Loved all of these and I’m excited to see the stump turned into a side table once he’s dried out. I also gotta add that I didn’t know about the fringe and it was kinda satisfying watching the threads being pulled. Haha
Haven't watched the full video yet but here's a pro-tip just from watching the intro, a walking foot for your sewing machine would make quilting those lines much easier. With a walking foot, there are feed dogs pushing the fabric from both the top and bottom, you don't have to be pulling the fabric through and there won't be any accidental pleats and tucks.Theres also a metal guide so you can guide each line off the last, no need for marking pencil lines.
amaia I've been eyeing walking foots for a while, but my machine is not the newest and it's very basic, there's no same brand foot available, that is. So far I've been scared to buy blindly a generic one off Amazon, do you have any tips?
@@StellaMariaGiulia The one I bought was a very generic/non brand-specific 10$ walking foot from amazon and has been kicking strong for 3 years. Google how to determine if you have a low shank, high shank, or slant shank sewing machine, this matters more than the brand.
@@StellaMariaGiulia if it's low, which most are these days, this (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HWBRR64/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1#customerReviews) is the one I have that fits nearly all low shank sewing machines.
Great advice. I'd like to add that basting the project a little more would probably be helpful as well, safety pins or spray baste really don't take too much time.
lol I legit could not tell that you guys were showing the real pillow vs. the one you made, they look identical! Also I'm dying a little because I'm in love with the tray that Kelsey didn't pick D:
Hey Sorry Girls! Love these DIY, you always inspire me to get creative and save that coin. I am a jeweller and speaking of the tray, you need to look for hallmarks like ‘925’ to know if it’s real silver. However, based on the size of it I would assume it’s just tin metal or steel that is silver plated. If it was real silver this whole tray would be worth couple of hundred $$$! Hope this helps.
You’re actually going to have to preserve that wood in order for it to last forever. I have one in my home and it was professionally preserved and then coated with a protective gloss. Never had any issues with it, but for longevity I suggest preservation.
I have a tree stump from a tree from our old house and its been around for 10 years . Sanded but not coated or preserved and its fine. As long as its inside it will be good.
I'm not sure what you mean by preservation, but that's why this wood stump is so expensive. Wood needs quite long to dry out, commercial wood is often dried in very hot ovens (especially fire wood).
I always love when you tackle sewing projects! You 2 are fearless about DIY and that is basically the entire premise of my learning, as well. Just 2 quick tips (maybe 1 and a technicality). 1. The "chanelling" that you refer to is technically a form of quilting and yes, everyone should mark out their lines before hand! (And use lots of pins) 2. When doing quilting, starting from the middle is usually a good idea so that you push the excess out to the sides evenly instead of all to one side. Helps to keep things even in the end. AND. Great job making the original piece larger than the final piece. Something a lot don't think about Great video!
You girls nailed it again!😎 I love your "That costs how muchhhh?!" Series a lot!!!♥️ #SorryLove 💕💕💕 And one tiny tip : To stop twines from fraying, like in the beads diy,you can use some petroleum jelly, wax or even some scented oil to go fancy 🥰
Lol- in the middle of watching this video my laptop display totally shit out on me and; long story short, my laptop no longer works. Just perfect for online school- yay (but seriously I don’t know what I’m going to do fml). But anyway, here I am- on my phone- to finish the video. Gotta love TSGs!

When becky wants a DIY for herself... you can tell. Lol. Amazing execution and #ovation on your patience! Those beads...I dont get the trend. I understand it but 🤦🏻♂️ its FILLER! Drape a necklace or costume jewelry instead. At least it's on the tray and ud actually wear it. The trend only supports my toss-it-anywhere decor style. 😂😬
I do quilting and this is how I prepare the quilting. You take your quilt measurement and add on 6 inches to both the horizontal and vertical measurements. Cut out pieces with the new measurements for the batting/wadding and for the backside of the quilting (your back to the front). Centre your front piece or quilt on top of thre wadding and backfront piece. Safety pin/pin your wadding together a hands width apart. When you start sewing it is easiest to use a walking foot, it helps ease the fabric in and reduces your bobbin pulling the fabric in. Do as you are doing and pull the three layers taut as you sew. Sew slowly. If you want more help for quilting I'd check out Missouri Star quilting because she is fab and has many videos. Although she hardly pins anything and also sews standing up. I honestly don't know how either of you sew standing up. There is nothing wrong with your method, I just thought this info might help.
