Rectangular Microstrip Patch Antenna for 5G at the 38GHz band using HFSS.

In this tutorial, a simple rectangular microstrip patch antenna is designed for 5G Applications at 38GHz using HFSS. The antenna resonated at exactly 39.1875GHz The result has shown a large bandwidth of 3.14GHz (37.72GHz-40.86GHz), a low reflection coefficient of -28.44dB, and a VSWR value below 2 in the entire bandwidth of interest.

If you cqnnot find it, you can create a radiation box manually by considering a distance of lamda/2 on both sides of the antenna

Hello, this paper may help you to find the dimensions of the feedline. www.researchgate.net/publication/305722465_A_New_Design_Formulae_for_Feed_Line_Dimensions_of_the_Rectangular_Microstrip_Patch_Antenna_by_using_Equivalent_Design_Concept You can know impedance matching by looking at the Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) or the reflection coefficients. For instance, in mobile communications systems, if the VSWR is less than 2, there is impedance matching.

The dimensions were calculated using rectangular microstrip Antenna formulae from C. Balanis book. However these formulas can’t give you the desired resonance frequencies. So you need to optimize the dimensions on HFSS using the optometric option.

@@ouafaeelalaouy8562 The last adaptive option allows us to plot a quantity (eg: VSWR, reflection coefficient, 2D gain) at a single frequency ( theoretical resonance frequency, 38GHz for this tutorial). The Sweep option on the other hand allows us to visualize a given parameter (eg: reflection coefficient) for all points within the range as defined in the frequency setup (This tutorial: 30GHz-45GHz).

Thank you! You can find how to calculate the dimensions in the literature. I recommend that you read Balanis "Antenna Theory: Analysis and Design" forth edition. However, you will need to perform a parametric analysis to achieve the desired resonant frequency.
