Making a black locust recurve bow with the use of hand tools. It's extended and slightly edited version of the video I uploaded a few weeks ago. - Check out also my website and store: dreamcraftbows... - Thanks for watching!
The king of selfbows! -I was working on a black locust short bow a few weeks ago but broke it. -but I Got some black walnut on deck next! Thanks for the videos, works of art!
I envy you, i wish i lived somewhere like you. In México we can only buy (easly) pine. Any tip for a pine bow? The two i made a year ago broke in the tailoring process...
To increase the chance of success make it with flat, wide limbs and long. Pine isn't a good bow wood but still it can be made into a bow. Good luck, greetings from Poland!
Okay, i'll try the flat bow, i used the same design from the classic carbon fiber and wood, 3"-4" wide i belive. Have bamboo to try the flat bow. Thanks for the tip and the videos, i learn many things!
Greeting, Great videos, short and concise and full of information. In the area where I live, the best trees are Ulmus, Acacia, Common dogwood, Ash, Hazel. I made about 20 bows...a very interesting hobby and it can be useful. I see that you immediately peeled the Acacia and coated it with something? I dry it in the crust, what did you coat it with?
Working on a plum bow myself. Got chronically sick for a long time and the wood has been drying for 31 months. The piece is 124 and I'm going for 53 cm draw. The piece will organically lend itself to a gullwing shape and recurves would absolutely make it look like a banger but I'm not sure if the stave I have can take the stress. Do you find plum easy to steam bend?
To be honest I've worked with plum only once and it was a very basic bow. But I think as a fruit wood if it's not too knotty it could be bent. It's a beautiful and great wood for bows. Good luck with your build!
I used black locust wood. I split it into staves, then debarked it and sealed backs and ends of staves. Then I stored it in dry place for a few months at least
