Understand Pricing and Regulations:
Familiarize yourself with the pricing structure for different metals, as scrap yards often pay based on weight and type of metal. Additionally, be aware of any regulations or restrictions regarding the recycling of specific metals.
Copper and Aluminum Recycling:
Copper and aluminum are commonly recycled metals. Copper wiring, pipes, and aluminum cans are examples of items that are frequently recycled. Some scrap yards may offer higher prices for clean, separated metals.
Scrap Metal Drives:
Participate in or organize scrap metal drives. These events are sometimes organized by community groups, schools, or charities to collect scrap metal from the community.
Follow Local Regulations:
Adhere to local regulations regarding the disposal and recycling of scrap metals. Some materials may be subject to special handling or reporting requirements.
Remember that regulations and recycling practices may vary by location, so it's essential to check with local authorities or recycling facilities for specific guidelines in your area.
Scrap metal refers to discarded metal that is no longer in use and is typically recycled for its raw material. Recycling scrap metal is essential for environmental sustainability and helps conserve natural resources. Here are common types of scrap metals and where you might find them:
Ferrous Metals:
Examples: Iron, steel, stainless steel.
Sources: Old appliances (refrigerators, washing machines), automobiles, construction materials, structural steel.
Non-Ferrous Metals:
Examples: Aluminum, copper, brass, lead, zinc, nickel, tin.
Sources: Electrical wiring, plumbing pipes, automotive parts, electronic components, aluminum cans.
Copper Scrap:
Examples: Copper wiring, pipes, tubing.
Sources: Old electrical wiring, plumbing systems, air conditioning units, electronics.
Aluminum Scrap:
Examples: Aluminum cans, siding, extrusions.
Sources: Beverage cans, window frames, doors, automotive parts.
Brass Scrap:
Examples: Brass fixtures, valves, ornaments.
Sources: Plumbing fittings, musical instruments, decorative items.
To recycle scrap metal:
Separate Metals: Sort metals into categories (ferrous vs. non-ferrous) and clean them of any contaminants.
Transport Safely: If the scrap metal is large or heavy, ensure it's safely transported to the recycling center.
Get Compensation: Many recycling centers pay for scrap metal by weight. You may receive compensation for the materials you bring in.
Before recycling, it's essential to check local regulations, as certain materials may have specific disposal requirements or restrictions.

Try saying "Focus, you ffkk!" I've seen that work 😅 And yeah recycling "only where facilities exist", meaning the dump. We should be looking more into incineration for stuff like this, we need to get better at that. Anything non-compostable or easily recycled like high value metals and clean plastics and glass should wind up in an incinerator to recover the energy that went into making this stuff. Overhaul our "recycling programs" so they actually make money, and stop feeding our landfills with chinesium and garbage plastics.

Yes, sir! You are bang on. If I sell these to the provincial or federal stewardship programs, I make a little bit more than shred and they pay the shipping, AND, they get shipped south to where they are shredded and separated, with the plastics going to exactly what you are talking about. If I take the dollar worth of metal out of them here, I get a dollar, and the dump gets a pound of plastic, which is why I generally opt to take things apart on video and then button it back up to ship south. Until I can find a sustainable option in the north, I have to at least let my conscience have a say once in a while.

Well done sir there's not too much in them but still worth the effort if only for the copper some times I just cut the cord and toss them in to shred but you have reminded me of the motors. Thanks for sharing this with us six stars brother

Yep. I have opened up a few and this one was a bit better than the others. More wire, less circuit boards. Thanks, Joe.

the thing you called safety switch (4:30) is a bi-metallic temp switch.... when it gets too hot from air restriction, that switch opens. The ceramic heater shouldn't be made of aluminum, the element itself is nichrome wire... it provides the resistance to create the heat. just some friendly info for ya...
@HHRecycling
@HHRecycling 5 месяцев назад
Oh, that's great info. Thank you for letting me know. So there's nichrome wire running inside the aluminum, where those steel tabs are connected, and the ceramic and aluminum are just there to radiate the heat? Also, do you know if nichrome is the wire used in other electric heaters? I find it quite often encased in a white powder.

I’m glad you decided to scrap it and not put it back together to use and burn your house down😅

With my luck it would only partially burn and insurance would make me live here with a tarp over the place. 🤣
