Today we scrap out a vintage Electrohome air conditioner model AC809Y. I was unable to find it on the internet, but would estimate it to be late 70s or early 80s. I really messed this video up but I blame it on being sick. Always an excuse.

Looks like a 1973 model. I collect and restore vintage units as a hobby. It’s a Tecumseh AK compressor date coded C 12 73. March 12th 1973.

Oh wow, that's interesting to know. If you're ever looking for parts, let me know what it is. I'll give them to you, just pay the shipping. I come across old ones and I hate throwing stuff out that someone can use.

🤙🤙👍 only thing we can do with those is cut the cord,rest goes as shred 😞 unless you have HVAC liscence
@HHRecycling
@HHRecycling 7 месяцев назад
Yeah, I don't have an HVAC licence, but I do have an ODP/ODS ticket which allows me to remove and dispose of refrigerant. It was just an online course and it has benefitted me to have it. The EPA has a similar course, I believe. Also, if you see something with R600a refrigerant, you can vent that to atmosphere, at least in Canada you can. Just be careful, as it's flammable.

I can get lots of air conditioners. I can’t sell the goodies cause I’m not licensed to remove refrigerant. So I usually just pass on them. Guess I need to get “certified” or whatever they call it. I also have a rent house. My current renter work in heating and cooling. Maybe he could remove it for me
@HHRecycling
@HHRecycling 7 месяцев назад
Yes, sir. I got mine and it cost about $400 for the online course and maybe $1500 for all the equipment. I get $22 to drain household appliances containing refrigerant, but that also includes disposal, which I have to pay for. If you are in an area that will buy the refrigerant, you can make money with that too. That's all in Canadian dollars. You can buy cheaper pumps and stuff.
@TB-Metals
@TB-Metals 7 месяцев назад
Thanks. I might look into it

@@HHRecycling cant a guy rig his own evac pump from a fridge compressor , add the lines and valves and away ya go . I saw an AC tech use a home made rig like that to pull vacume on a truck system he was recharging for us once or twice
@HHRecycling
@HHRecycling 7 месяцев назад
@@TB-Metals Definitely could be worth your while. Especially if you can get lots. Some scrappers pay up to $35 USD for those big roof units, so they must have a pile in them. I get about $50 worth of scrap out of the hotel PTAC units, but we don't have great prices up here. This one would be worth maybe $40. Takes probably 45 minutes to tear it down if you're not filming.
@HHRecycling
@HHRecycling 7 месяцев назад
@@Onemanstrash1 You can use whatever works, as long as you're licensed. I wouldn't trust myself using a homemade one, but if I was an HVAC tech, it would probably be easy to do. Every region has its own rules. You just need to look up what they are in your area.
