@@ladyofcuriousvirtue rockwool claims to be heat tolerant to 1000 degrees and fibreglass is about as flammable as a wine glass...where are you getting your information?
Yeah usually lots of bottles and stones burning in my area ;) Btw seriously speaking you can also check the hempcrete - it’s both light construction (needs some skeleton though) and insulation - made of natural hemps and 100% human friendly 👍
Thank you Precious Plastic for providing us with such amazing tools and supporting us all the way. One Army's tag line should be "creating change through opensource knowledge".
Hmm, recycled plastic fluff for insulation sounds effective, but unfortunately quite flammable. A bit too dangerous to build a home with without some other means of preventing fire spreading through it. I wonder sometimes if you could make some kind of thin-walled hollow cement/ceramic/clay/etc. bricks filled with insulating recycled plastic fluff. They'd still conduct heat around the edges, and they'd be weaker than solid bricks, but if you made a wall two layers thick, offset by half a brick in both directions, heat would have to follow a very serpentine path to bypass the insulation, but the flammable insulation would be isolated into discrete cells where it couldn't propagate fire between them. Actually, a closed-cell 3D honeycomb of some kind (like cubic 3D printer infill?) might return quite a bit of the lost structural strength to the brick in addition to insulating it. While it's too slow for construction use, a 3D printed brick dipped thickly in some sort of cold-drying cement-like material (basically anything solid and fireproof) seems pretty ideal for an insulating material of that sort. Maybe it could even contain two sets of studs and sockets on the top and bottom surfaces to interlock them loosely. Seems like you could make a well-insulated, fire-resistant wall that's reasonably durable out of that, as long as you made it two layers thick (offset such that the 'seams' of one wall go over the bricks of the other)
I have a plan to recycle plastic, glass and metals. Making tools from small to better. And making crafts and helping animals. I just recently rescued a kitten from under the hood of a car. The kitten has a new home, he stays with me :) You're very motivating. And I am walking towards you in tiny steps. I dared to start my adventure with YT. Thanks to you, I understood that you have to want to do something, and then implement it even in small steps ... Regards, Zefirsan
the big problem which no one thinks to an end is civilization/industry, there is no way for healthy planet with an industry, with concrete, with streets, cars...you can wish and try what you want, there will come the day that it will not be sustainable anymore, the only thing we need is family and food, but the way we live is without both, on streets, cities nothing grows, no animals can live there, go with nature which we are part of or take a long suffering road

Hi, guys! I love you and want to help the Ghanaians build homes out of plastic. Ghana is overwhelmed with plastics. I am going to buy the mold for plastic bricks but I am wondering if someone can build a mold for plastic shingles?
@@sustainabledesign.studio Thank you for your reply. I was thinking of curved roof tiles, kind of like the clay roof tiles used I california and in Mexico. I'm sorry, I said "shingles" but I meant "tiles".
@@OneArmyVideos You could rethink the roof structure though. The actual tiles could be covered with a layer of plastic that periodically needs to be replaced but takes the UV degradation forthe actual tiles. I'm thinking genre an extra foil you usually do not see on ceramic tiles.
A good trick I’ve learned through making plastics is that adding a bit of melamine powder and monoammonium phosphate powder will make plastic quite flame retardant and both ingredients are very safe. In fact, monoammonium phosphate is a fertilizer!
I am going to become a plastic surgeon. Well, I'm not going to turn into plastic, I meant a will do plastic surgery and actually doing so without any medical experience, and, without even getting arrested for doing so. I was talking about being a plastic surgeon, performing surgery on plastic robots! I'm a scientist Jim, not a doctor!
This idea is like the extrusion of large sheets vs smaller tiles for roofing and siding material I think is a great goal that would be very valuable for society. Even if like the ice and water shield plastic sheet material that is used for roofing and even like for basement exterior liners on the larger structures. Maybe can like deposit layers somehow on a large, like say for example, corrugated sheet 4'x8' mold that is one sided and ideally two sided for pressing once the layers are built up and filled with filler material. So for filler material... thinking like Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC), concrete, bitumen/asphalt or other filler material where this fiber would be the re-enforcing like with UHPC metal fibers and I've read where some use polyethylene or I don't see why not other polymers.
This reminds me of fiberglass. What if you guys combined this technique with a mold and resin to create fiberglass like structure. I’m a artist trying to find a way to make large sculptures that are strong but lightweight. I could imagine this as a way to do that. There’s a video featured on The King of Random’s YT page that shows how to create a fiberglass turtle shell that made me think… hmm, this should be made with plastic then I saw this video.
Hi, I am trying to find out how to re-use transparent polyethyleentereftalaat as a replacement for glasshouse windows. Anyone got info about that in a DIY setting?
