Not a surprising result, actually completely anticipated. W11 is the ultimate laptime machine, but that also means it didn't considered fighting with other cars too much (well if you have to fight with other cars in a W11 there must be something wrong), so it could be fast at start, but once it being passed, it will be influenced by the slipstream of RB20 significantly, loss downforce and therefore hard to catch up. And the RB20, as a ground effect car, will be less influenced in slipstream than the 2020 cars, and have lower drag on the straight. So that's what we see - the W11 was quick at start, but easily get passed by the RB20 on the Kemmel straight, and once it being passed, it can still keep on position but almost impossible to overtaking again.

i disagree with the theoretical quali times because the w11 was going to pass the rb20 on the back straight. the rb20 just put up some questionable defense

I disagree with simulation. It basically stating that the only reason the W11 was faster was because it was lighter. The W11 creates more downforce than and generates it better at low to mid speed because of how overbody downforce doesn’t peel off as quickly as under body downforce.

Yes, finally someone made it happen. Yes there are caviats like the fact that its only a sim, BUT we can get a pretty good idea that the current generation of cars arent the fastest ever because theyre FAT
