Average soccer referee would have missed that without the VAR. Very impressive refereeing especially for a non-professional game. I have to say, as an “outsider”, I have watched quite a bit of Gaelic football over the last year and the refereeing overal is also pretty good. Better/more consistent than in some professional football codes imho. And Gaelic football is certainly not an easy sport to referee.
I (probably) haven’t watched as much Gaelic Football as you and most other people here but I have to say, this kind of thuggery is (or at least seems to be) very rare. The first time I have seen it and I have watched at the very least 15 games already. This kind of thuggery was quite common in soccer before the inception of the VAR, to a much much larger degree than Gaelic.
