One thing, I realize the longer I play this game, is that, if the Van Der Linde gang was in our universe, they would be one of, if not the, most feared and legendary gang in US history. Imagine a dynasty of outlaws spanning a quarter century, hunted by Pinkertons, Lawmen, and even the military. A gang that robbed (in today’s money at least) millions upon millions of dollars from 5 different states. A gang that killed hundreds upon hundreds of people, innocent or not. That ended family bloodlines and began new ones. A gang to go down in history. A gang led by a lone man… a man who had principles, and a man who loved and cherished his gang and the people in it. A man who was tainted… manipulated… and eventually silenced by his own hand. And the man who manipulated him… shot by the man whom he manipulated for oh so long, and eventually put down by one of the men, who he sought so dearly to put down. The west was dying, slowly but ever so surely. These men and women held onto a lifestyle that was both outdated and unattainable… and eventually it caught up to many of them. When Edgar Ross ended the life of John Marston, he thought that he had finally ended the Van Der Linde Gang. Wiping them from the history books and ridding the world clean of their filth. But he was so wrong, it would seem like lunacy. For many had already escaped that life, their fates unknown. Many died for that life. And eventually, fate caught up with him. He was killed not by John, Arthur, Hosea, Dutch, Lenny, or even Micah. No… he was killed by Jack Marston… only surviving member of the Marston bloodline. The boy who he had met fishing all those years ago. The boy who delighted and charmed the Van Der Linde Gang. His fate is not sealed. And we may never know what it was. A dynasty of outlaws, fighting against the system, against restraint, reduced to a lone boy and those who escaped before him.

During my first play-through, I loved Dutch. He missions were my favourite, but now, now his voice. His voice sparks a genuine hatred, in my brain and my gut. Red Dead 2 has such good storytelling, that it creates pure genuine emotional hate in my soul. Probably the best game ever made.
