After playing rdr2 John was with the gang after breaking out of prison and was with Arthur until he died Its so awkward that Arthur was not even talked about in whole game
i have played both the games so i think i can answer your question:- rockstar already planned that they will make rdr 1 prequel after rdr 1 is released so that there would be suspense created that who are john marston gang members and why did the gang broke as we know micah was the one who brainwashed dutch that arthur is a rat which eventually created civil war within gang it was like gang vs john and aruthur and as we know that no one won it was only john who made it as law attacked on gang.....and as you have heard a dialogue of john marston which he said at the end of game (rdr2)that "i dont talk about arthur much but i think about him' (or similar to this dialogue i dont remember correctly what words he used but he meant the same)so this might be the reasons that he wasnt mentioned.

@@AGboiii even i was very young ( 6 year old) when the rdr 1 came out my father played the game and told me the story when i was young and in 2020 we both played rdr 2 together on ps4 It's not a game its a lifetime experience what a masterpiece
AGtoxic boi because rdr1 was released 8 years before the release of rdr2 and that people didn't know that in rdr2, Arthur Morgan will be the protagonist instead of john Marston.
