No, Red could have fought back but he didn’t because he knew that the only salvation and redemption that he could have is Death knowing that he had done monstrous things against his own kind! And the thing is Red could have use the Launcher to blow up that gas thing but he chose to save Caesar because he knew that only someone that remained loyal, someone that is proud of being an ape can save the Apes and he is not that Ape that’s why he stood there! The look he gave was like him saying to Caesar that he is proud of being an Ape!
He seen Caesar running and wished he could’ve actually been covering him ior was by his side but he still made the right decision in the end and he was at peace with it
fun fact: The guy with the crossbow's name is preacher and was originally going to side with ceaser but the director cut it because he felt that it took away from the message of the movie
The shot of him standing there stoically after what he did, and then getting shot in the back of the head without even knowing it, all in slow motion, is so heavy.
Naw he knew he was gunna die as soon as he shot that zooka. The big pitch in this scene is that Red knew at that moment he was gunna be executed for his act but he stood prouder than he he ever did at any point in his life.@PotawatomiThunderNew
Donkey could have shot the grenade launcher on the explosive and done the same thing what Ceaser did. Imagine ceasar dying to an arrow and donkey goes from a traitor to an absolute hero. None of us would have wanted to see that 🥲
This scene is very powerful coz donkey is such a hated character throughout the whole film but this 1 minute makes you like him and feel sad about his death. It's crazy how power 1 scene is
@Mastnaer Ceef he basically saved the apes, he did kill a lot, but he saved the leader, and it paid off because Caesar then runs away and blows up the gas can
@Mastnaer Ceef A lot of it has changed, Vader might be an evil sith Lord that kills without mercy, But a lot of times he have actually spared a lot of people, he saved an entire planet from a huge monster in a comic, He was a miserable man who had lost his wife, he thought he had lost his kids too, He only discovered that Luke was his son back in Empire strikes back, Yes, I agree, one act doesnt redeem him, it is What results in the end, he killed the emperor off, saving his son. He Will never be redeemed in other People’s eyes, is true, but he did everything to save his son. When he finally realised everything was wrong. When his inner self woke. And he became Anakin Skywalker again. His sacrifice on the emperor helped the rebellion get a huge victory on the war. You May find Darth Vader to be a piece of garbage. I Think his character is great. Especially how flawed the jedi order were. He was a slave. It doesnt make it okay, but it gives you an understanding where Anakin was coming from.
@@xxgamerxxyut1084yes but thats the beauty of it. At the end he saved ceaser and ceaser was gonna blow him up with all the humans yet he chose to stand with his kind for his final moments there was no redemption for him and he knew it hence why he didn't even try to fight back and let the guy shoot him. He fully knew he would die no matter what and if he helped ceaser there was nothing in it for him yet he still did because it was the right thing to do....
I noticed something Donkey and Winter are kind of like opposites if you think about it, not just in hair color but also in how they turned out. Donkey a traitor all the way then becomes loyal to the apes and Winter loyal all the way until he betrays the apes, quite poetic actually.
MORAL: Never turn your back to those who care about you, even if your actions hurt them before, because they might be the only one who truely care about you. 🦍🐵🦧
this trilogy is so fucking detailed man, been a fan since the first movie in 2011 and still finding little details like this about the movie, its really an understatement to call this trilogy a masterpiece because in my opinion its beyond that.
I thought that too. I was even trying to like him, thinking he'd team up with them or something. But, he did always seem scared, to fearful to join the "loosing" side.
I’m not gonna lie tho, he probably would’ve too. I was watching the way he was looking at Caesar, but donkey didn’t give him a chance LOL. Cuz remember how Caesar saved the Colonel when he was gonna kill him but then he took himself out anyway
The respect donkey had for Caesar when he saw him running through all that artillery and gunfire by himself to save the apes mad him turn and sacrifice his life to give ceasar a chance
1:03 you can tell by the look on Preacher’s face that he really didn’t want to kill Caesar after Caesar spared his life and everything he heard about him and the apes 😭
I think what got to red was the commitment Cesar had to save his kind, running while explosions were going off next to him and yet he pushed right though
At the beginning of the movie you could tell Donkey had doubts when the fighting was happening. Donkey is not a bad person innately but he is a coward who wants to survive. This films explores what people will do when their survivial or their race’s survival is in jeopardy
@@MrKingYuji I really think that in his last moments, Donkey wanted to be a great ape just like Ceaser, like Ceaser has become his new idol. It make sense since every coward wishes to be a brave and courage
@@h.a9115 As we all know we just stare blankly at movies and not feel anything. Because that's what we pay to do. Watch a movie and just not feel anything.
【NRT】_styx according to you every person who watched a movie just sat or stood there with no emotions on there face and continue to waste money on movies
@@tristanmireles8994 I would’ve liked it to, I would’ve thought he would’ve been kinda like malcom’s character, but I also get why he did it. He would’ve died along with the entire human race, so he had to decide humans or apes
Red Donkey had lived for himself his entire life, yet in his finale moments he sees a selfless Caesar running through the explosions to save his fellow apes. Caesar’s actions inspire him to finally put himself aside for once and make a sacrifice for others which is what he did. It goes to show it is never too late to do the right thing.
That was an afterthought. The original script was him helping Caesar after sometime, but at the end the director decided not to, despite Will and Malcolm proving that not all humans are malevolent or evil bastards.
I actually liked Preacher’s character. You could tell he felt sympathetic when he shot Caesar, and when he saw Caesar in the cage. The only reason he shot Caesar was because he was about to blow up the gas tank. If he blew it up Preacher and the soldiers would die. Humanity was on the line. Would you betray your own species? You might say yes if they’re bad, but Koba started the war. Preacher ultimately sticked with his gut. When he shot Caesar he felt bad, he was going to kill Caesar just to put him out of his suffering because he had already shot him. It’s a fast decision to make
Well, they were fighting another set of humans. So humanity wasn't entirely on the line by destroying this "evil" organization. Of course, we will never know what went through his head.
I can only agree, he was my favourite Charakter in the movie, it is not about hate against animals but about love for humanity, in this point I think the Wohle message of the movieline is really unthought, you cannot make the world better by showing humanity in such a bad light
That perfectly contrasts donkey’s arc which is why it was so genius to have both of them in the scene & come full circle. Someone who chooses their species survival above all vs. someone who had previously betrayed their species
I like Preacher too, but it wasn't about humanity, he was on a faction of rogue humans that participated in genocide against their own, granted they where infected but, the global human military marked them for termination, if Preacher went through with the original script and sided with Caesar, even if he survived, he'd live to die another day, knowing the North would send more after them, its sad really.
Thank you for not cheering on the death of humanity in this movie like so many other people here. The insane thing is that we know the apes are bad from the first movie, but people still cheer them on because of this weird anti human movement in movies nowadays.
The best part is the look of shock and realization in Reds face seeing how far Caeser was willing to go to protect their kind. At that moment Red had realized he made a mistake siding with Koba and then the humans and betraying Caesar and their kind.
This is one of the powerful scenes I have ever seen. Just devastating, yet makes you feel alive because you realize Donkey turned the tide. Donkey's expressions are real gut punch.
The human “preacher” who was spared by Caesar, deals him a fatal blow. He does this despite showing signs of empathy towards the apes. Signalling how far humanity has fallen. Paraphrasing Caesar-“why did you become a traitor” Donkey-“to save myself” Caesar-“is there any part of you worth saving?” Red then presented with a chance to save his species at the cost of his own life, takes it. This redemption shows that the apes souls haven’t been corrupted by greed and selfishness. Beautiful symmetry in this scene
@LEO&LAMB dude wtf 😑 did I anywhere diss respected anyone in here ? And wtf about watching movie dude 😭😭😭😭 that's so embarrassing question lol, and yes I'm a fan Matt Reeves apes trilogy
My favourite scene in the movie! I love the way caesar getting the grenade ready is shot in slow motion and then the unexpected bone arrow going into caesar's body, the music and donkey's sacrifice to save caesar and the apes took the scene to another level, great movie!
One of the best trilogies I've ever watched. Expertly crafted, from the performances to the dialogue (and sometimes the lack of it). These movies had real heart, a rare thing these days.
I remember watching this scene in the cinema. My jaw dropped when it showed Donkey saved Caesar. Such a powerful moment. If Donkey didn't do what he did, the apes would of lost the war.
BroThisGameTrash YT I mean him dying is sad but the scene itself was kind of happy. All of the apes were safe from harm and Caesar was satisfied with his life
Ah the feeling when one who once betrayed us once turns up to protect us sacrificing life in this scene I do admit it reminded me of friends who drifted apart breaking our friendship after insulting and hurting me I had tears in my eyes watching this scene
This is the most powerful scene in the movie. War is War. Doesn’t matter what side you own, it cost blood & sacrifice. Some times we empathize and side with our oppressor because we have no leader. Donkey was simply that type, loyal to Koba to the end. No vision, No purpose & No guidance. He went into depression after Koba death. Not so much that he was on humans side but any side other than Caesar. He really didn’t stand for nothing. He would follow and do anything human tell him to do. However, it took him seeing Caesar fighting and clinging to life, For him to snap out of it. ( Years of Koba brainwashing) Caesar kept him alive for a reason- because he knew Donkey would eventually do the right thing. Something Koba would not tolerate you either was with him or against him. Donkey was just a product of his environment.
Jesus Christ redeems believers from all forms of sinful bondage and oppression through his death and resurrection. The price of that redemption, his own death, represents a ransom paid to secure the freedom of those held in bondage to sin. 'And they said, *Believe* on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.' (Acts 16:31) 'Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.' (John 14:6) 'He that *believeth* on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.' (John 3:36) 'If ye love me, keep my commandments' (John 14:15)
Ceasear: Save me, why? Red Donkey: Because I had reason things to do. Ceasear: What reason? Red Donkey: I respect you cause you're legacy. And you right. We didn't start this war. Ceasear: I thank you. Red Donkey: Welcome. Ceasear: Are you with us now? Red Donkey: Yes. I am. This time, i follow you. Ceasear: Okay, let go! Red Donkey: Got it! Soldier Man pull the trigger to his head. (BANG!) Ceasear: Nooo! I wish they made that scenes. This is the most emotional I ever seen. Red Donkey was my favorite characters from planet of the apes film. Rest in peace!
After his death, I think that there are no other Gorillas seen, what if Luca and Red were the last of their Gorilla kind? What if all Gorillas are now extinct in this film?
@@Laserbeak316 Not to mention countless others from all around the world who may get word of mouth about the Oasis and join them. Bad Ape is proof that various apes out of San Francisco got uplifted.
I like how Caesar was too much weak after that shot... but seeing another Ape risking his life just to save hims makes him realize that he has strenght to keep fighting...
Today I watched this film for the first time. From the very beginning, I had this gut feeling that Donkey would find his redemption. When it came to this scene of watching the apes running out of the base, I immediately noticed Donkey realized that he was on the wrong side the entire time, and he was expressing his emotions all though his eyes, most noticeably regret. And I mean it when I say this- When Donkey saved Caesar, I cheered and felt happy for him because I was proven right… only to have my heart broken a moment later when the guard ended up killing Donkey point blank. In a way, his character reminds me of Darth Vader. He lived as a villain, but died a heroic death. What. A. Cinematic. Masterpiece.
Fun fact Pierre Boulle that author of Planet of the Apes also write The Bridge on the River Kwai so this was a very nice and fitting tribute to him and both of his works
Often times we do things out of fear,Pain,or other emotion…here you can see reds regret on the decisions he has made throughout the movie…Its never to late to do the right thing. Here he stands tall and accepts his fate looking at ceaser and not turning around while saying “I am still an ape!!!!”
I'm really curious if there was an alternate way they wrote Preacher initially. There were waaay too many scenes of him seeming to show a little bit of doubt about following Woody Harrelson, and it literally turned out to be absolutely nothing. There had to be some other idea they had for this character initially. Maybe not a full redemption arc, but something where he refuses to cross a particular line.
He was actually the kindest to the donkeys. Whenever the other humans got aggressive with them, he was always the one to try and deescalate the tension. They would even retort at him with insults like "donkey lover"
