@@isabellaangeline2175 I don't know why anyone feels the need to say this - yeah the media ate it up, I don't know what them "being overrated" changes? In a way, being overrated causes bands to end up being underrated because most of their fandom is surface level and full of choir kids that know like 5 songs by them and just parrot what an authority figure told them. The Beatles are very renowned but most people don't REALLY listen to their music that much so it results in a fan base that doesn't even appreciate the band for what they really are - a lot of them today are stupid conservatives that don't even agree with the messages of their songs in the first place. Now that the Beatles are accepted as a part of "music tradition", they've been co-opted by the very worst institutions. It's not like the Beatles knew how massive they'd get and knew how shallow the average person that would be fans of them would be - I think it's just pointless to make claims of being overrated. You probably also say nirvana is overrated too I'm sure, or Jimi Hendrix.

I'm glad it's becoming more and more accepted that the death of The Beatles manager is the most obvious reason they broke up. (not the only reason but it set so many things in motion). It caused them to form Apple, almost out of panic to manage their affairs, which did more harm than good. In order to compensate, Paul became more bossy and overbearing. John brought Yoko to the studio because being a Beatle had become arduous and even boring, he needed some stimulation. George felt more alienated than ever as the structure of the band changed. There's many complex reasons, particularly to do with the Beatles personalities and growing up, but Brian's death seemed to cause the majority of the problems.

I knew it! Many people knew it! As soon as Brian Epstein passed away, the break-up for The Beatles was beginning. Even for Gerry and the Pacemakers *(Another band Brian managed alongside The Beatles)* , they broke up when they heard about Brian's death. The Beatles tried their best to keep it together after August 27th 1967. But they knew other things that only Brian could do would collapse. John Lennon said that they were going to crumble, George Harrison said in part one of Get Back nothing was never the same ever since Eppy passed away, and Paul McCartney said the band grew negative of each other and no one was there to tell them 'Do it' since Eppy passed away in part one of Get Back.

I read somewhere that The Doors' post-Morrison albums' sales were decent, and the actual reason why they broke up was due to artistic differences. Many stories around the disaster that was CCR's Mardigras. The one I read is that Cook & Clifford weren't "allowed" to contribute, they were "forced" to contribute. John Fogerty was angry about the band's contract that gave an equal share to all members of the band despite him writing (and singing lead) on the vast majority of the songs to that point. So he decided if he was going to continue only getting 1/3rd of the proceeds he was going to write and sing on only 1/3rd of the songs. He (and the band) had signed a bad contract and he further signed a bad addendum to the contract (giving up ownership of his songs) in order to get out of the deal.

Yoko gets unfair blame for the breakup of the Beatles. All of them have said she was completely unresponsive for the break up, that was just a sexist media creation. You can say what you want about her - you don't have to like her, but she had no part in breaking up the band. Her presence in the studio was a symptom of their already growing apart, not the cause. Also, Nirvana didn't kickstart grunge - grunge isn't a genre for 1, they are all just rock bands heavily influenced by hardcore punk and other more avant garde acts. The existence of grunge is also a media creation that no one ever accepted back then. But nirvana was the last of the big four to join in on that scene - pearl jam technically formed later than Nirvana but half of the band that formed pearl jam was in the Seattle scene since like 1982, Nirvana wasn't even CLOSE to being the first "grunge band". Of the big 4 bands Soundgarden was around first - if you want to go and give credit to specific individuals or groups, green river were "the first" along with maybe the Melvins - but a few members of green river were also the ones who formed pearl jam so that's why I still hold that nirvana was essentially the last of the big four despite pearl jam forming after.

Same here. I actually read an article about Yoko Ono during the time when The Beatles: Get Back docu-series was coming to Disney+, it said that Yoko was innocent and she never objected anything on what the boys were doing. It took people many years to know this and all they did was blame her for the band's breakup even after John Lennon's assassination. She was mourning the loss of her husband, and she had to suffer the hate until 2021? People these days... John Lennon was right about what he said after Brian died. They were done and it was the beginning of the end. In part one of Get Back, George Harrison said 'Ever since Mr. Epstein passed away, it's never been the same.' Paul McCartney agreed with George and he added in that the band became sour at each other since Brian passed, causing them to become sick of the group because they were lacking discipline and no one was there to tell them 'Do it'. The Doors didn't end when Jim died. He was burned out some time before that! A skidmark sheriff in Florida decided to make a name for himself by prosecuting Morrison for obscenity. (Multiple photographers were taking pictures at that show, and NO, Jim didn't expose himself). Jim had a trial looming with potential jail time. He left the US after singing the tracks for LA Woman, and eventually ended up in Paris, with his love-hate girlfriend Pam Corso feeding him drugs. He had walking pneumonia and looked unrecognizable, puffy and sick. Then dead. Mysteriously dead. Surprised Fleetwood Mac isn't on the list. That band has been breaking up and making up for decades, with Lindsey Buckingham going in and out like a jack-in-the-box and getting his final goodbye notice just a few years ago. Christie McVie quit permanently some time back, and died in Nov 2022. CSN&Y didn't so much break up as deflate. Neil Young left a note on a hotel dresser and just up and disappeared, which apparently isn't all that unusual for Neil. Major musical legacy for a brief 1.5 yrs of playing together.

1) Led Zeppelin-actually, Bonham's death wasn't the reason for the break up, more of an excuse. Robert Plant just wanted to experiment with music and didn't want to be locked into being in THE leading hard rock band in the world (EVERY band wanted to be Led Zep from 1973-91). 2) CCR-heard this from Fogerty himself: "Why am I writing 90% of the music and only getting 33% of the profits?" As Fogerty's post CCR string of hits proves, the man can write great music. 3) The Doors-like the fictional band, Eddie and the Crusers, The Doors were famous because of the collaboration of Ray (lyrics) and Jim (music). Without Jim, there wasn't music any more as post Jim albums proved. Jim just had that "Midas touch."

@sirchromiumdowns2015 Год назад

I agree with you about Zeppelin. After Bonham's passing, they still had concerts to play. They did them with Carl Palmer. If they really wanted to keep the band going, they could have done it with him, as he was as good as Bonham. By the time Out Door was recorded, Jones & Plant were writing most of the songs & they didn't sound anything like the earlier ones...

@@lyndoncmp5751 No, I'm actually being serious about this. Although Bonham was a great drummer in the late sixties and early seventies with Led, after Graffiti, neither him, nor Page had much working for them. It would have been great to hear what Jones/Plant songs would have emerged in later years, had they stayed together, with whatever drummer. Really wasn't crazy about Bonham's drumming. Thought he would have fit better in a hard rock band, rather than a blues-based one. It's only my opinion.

What about Doyal Hargraves band?
@Klinkerklunk
@Klinkerklunk Год назад
With the Beatles there were 6 main reasons for the breakup 1 Death of Brian Epstein. Brian Epstein's death in late summer 1967 was a hard blow for the band. He was the glue that held the band together, and he helped arbitrate differences among them. With him gone, and no one replacing him, the Beatles were set adrift alone. Projects such as the Magical Mystery Tour film would likely have been reeled in, or at least given a different direction. The formation of their own production company the next year would also likely have been more grounded. Perhaps the Let it Be film would have been postponed and not set so close to their last album. The pressure to come up with and record material in a matter of month, and having no real idea of what the finale was to be, added to tensions already brewing. 2 Yoko Ono. The members of the group had rows in the past. McCartney walked out on the recording of She Said She Said in 1966. But the actual period where the Beatles began famously not getting along coincided exactly when Yoko Ono came in the picture in mid 1968. Ono was very manipulative and loved what the Beatles did for Lennon but also despised the band for how she wasn't a part of it. She seeded a growing negative attitude in Lennon about being a Beatle, and introduced him to heroin which further distracted him 3 Apple. The Beatles jumped head first into the world of business when they set up their own production company Apple. Almost immediately they began hemorrhaging money with frivolous pursuits. They approached it with rose tinted glasses, tossing cash at anyone who had any idea or little idea at all. The start of Apple also coincided with Yoko Ono's appearance, and so could also have been responsible for the bands discord at that time. 4 Allen Klein. A feud began in the band about who their new manager would be. McCartney was out-voted 3 to 1 in favor of Allen Klein, a slick tough talking New Yorker. Klein promised them higher profits but was really something of a con-man. His appointment created a further wedge between the two band leaders. 5 The Toronto Rock and Roll Revival Festival. Lennon was convinced to board a plane and headline the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival festival on short notice. He was very nervous and going through the pains of heroin addiction at the time in September 1969. It wasn't a chance that a week later he announced his departure from the band, and never returned. Playing with other musicians gave him ideas about his own independence, and he now felt confident enough to act on his previous unhappiness with the Beatles. 6 Phil Spector. John Lennon was pleased with Phil Spector's work on his Instant Karma single in February 1970. Up to then, Spector had been somewhat of a recluse. With this in mind, Lennon persuaded the powers to be to appoint Spector as the new producer of the as yet released Get Back album, which would soon be renamed Let it Be. The Bulk of the recording had occurred more than year earlier, and although the Beatles had moved on and recorded new material, they still wished for the album to be mixed and released. The slow process of the film's progress also shelved the album and pushed back it's release. Spector, without consent, added flourishes to various songs to mixed reaction of the members of the group. Lennon was somewhat pleased, as he had misgivings about the material and it's chaotic mess in his opinion, and thought Spector had pulled off an impossible feat of salvaging the album. McCartney on the other hand was furious. He hadn't worked to the heights of his achievements at the top of the industry to be told what he can or can't do in his own music. Refer to number 4, when Klein backed up all of Spector's embellishments, and turned a deaf ear to McCartney's complaints. This only compounded things further, and coupled with Lennon's absence, McCartney felt the band could go no further.
