Have you tried the Red Flame F1 before? What do you think of it?

I love this series and I love your honesty. I know sometimes when someone offers a difference of opinion folks get all bent. For me and as the old saying goes “honesty is the best policy”. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this pepper. As always another great video. Thank you for sharing. Your the MAN! Stay safe and stay spicy! V/R - Shane

Thanks Brandon. But I have been putting out at least one video a week for the last year. I think RU-vid is just not alerting folks maybe

@@ChilliChump Interesting, I've been subscribed for a while but also missed a lot of your more recent videos - I assumed because you were moving you weren't putting out as many videos but it looks like RU-vid just wasn't putting them in my suggestions, favouring rubbish I'm not interested in instead. I'll have to remember to keep an eye on my 'subscriptions' page as well as they are showing up there.

Looking forward to possible follow up videos on your other red flame plants Shaun, just to see if the F1 pod you just sampled is an off peak heat pod, or if the F1 trait is trending less hot. Always wonderful to see your plant layout inside your greenhouse. Seasons must be turning now as this was the first morning with a temp below 10C. Happy Gardening! Stay Spicy! -Bob...

I'm semi obsessed with cayenne for it's flavour. This had me excited. Imagine making a fermented crystal/Franks, with a hot pepper... That is my 20 year plan.

Thanks chilli, I also grew the Red Flame F1, this year, as well was the Red Ember, and interested in the flavor profile they both have to offer to the sauces, this year. Thanks again for all the guidance!

Saving seeds from a first generation hybrid is, by all accounts, likely to yield very variable results. Do have at it though. Perhaps it'll stabilise after a few more generations.

Interesting Shaun. I have a F1 Dragon Cayenne and they are more spicy then normal Cayenne. This may be my taste buds not being acclimated to hotter peppers.

always good to see your input on new peppers for me to try. quick question if you have the time. i have a jalapeno/ghost pepper sauce fermenting for the last 6 days. day 2- 4 it was bubbling quite a bit but has since stopped bubbling. i have followed your guidelines with about a 2.5-3% brine. is it normal for them to stop bubbling intermittently or would that indicate a problem. no funky smell, nothing growing in it. just no bubbles..
@ChilliChump

Yeah that's normal. It will be most active for the first 2 to 5 days.

Hi Shawn, have you grown yellow cayenne before? I am trying them this season for the first time and I have to say they are beautiful. The color is magnificient, I am yet to taste one though. The growth of the plants significantly lags behing my regular cayenne plants though, which will undoubtedly affect harvests.

Hi Kurt. I did a few years back. Very pretty. But like you say, a bit slower than normal cayenne. Also didn't produce as well

@@ChilliChump yes, that has been my experience so far. Interestingly they started fruiting way earlier and already have ripe pods while the regular cayenne only start to flower now. By the way, I only managed to catch up on your videos rather recently after becoming a father and I have to congratulate you on your new garden and greenhouses. It is very obvious that this took a lot of work and it turned out beautifully.

Cayenne is so variable on heat, I've honestly had red Jalapenos that are hotter. Our supermarket Cayenne's come from farms where they baby the plants and give them so much water, people eat them like crunchy snacks. The little plants in my yard are so water stressed they will knock your head off on heat.

You use vac pac on some and canning jars on others. What do you like more and why? I use canning jars and I found a rubber lid that has a nipple on top that let out the co2. Looking at getting a vac sealer but to me it seems like a pain cutting corners and resealing. What works better?
@ChilliChump

You will see the majority of my ferments I use jars or buckets...not vacuum seal.

I've had the worst year to date, I've got fuck all that's even close to ripe and I'm really angry about it tbh cos I started them all really early, but the shitty weather this year stopped me getting them into the greenhouse by about 2 months....

What do you do when you get f1 seeds and the plants you get all have different pods from the same seeds. I have 3 plants from some gift seeds that I received in a order and all 3 have different pods, completely different looking, but the plants are all very similar in leaf structure and the coloring of the stems

Hi, How many litres are your pots in the greenhouse, they look huge? This is my first season growing chillies. I’ve converted our balcony to a greenhouse. My largest pots are 10ltrs. I’m growing Chinense, would growing in bigger pots be an advisable for a bigger crop?
@ChilliChump

10 litres is a good size. Don't rush to a bigger pot, it introduces other challenges. Most of my pots are 10 litres

Hey Chilichump I have a question for you. I know you're primarily a hot sauce guy, but do you know if there's any way to make a fermented bbq sauce in a similar way to hot sauce so that it stays shelf stable? I have some friends living across the country that I'm going to be sending some sauces that I make this year, and was hoping to add a bbq sauce as well. Love the videos as always!
@ChilliChump
@ChilliChump 3 года назад
I have a couple BBQ sauces in my recipe book. By the nature of how they are made, they are shelf stable. The pH is low enough, and they are hot processed. There will be done BBQ sauce videos coming up on my channel too

Hey great video as always. I´m not quite sure but if the F1 in the name mean that it is a F1 Hybrid it is actually not worth to save seeds from this.
@ChilliChump

Isolating flowers would mean I could move it on to second generation (F2) if I thought it was a plant worth doing that for.

@@ChilliChump Cayenne to be fair can be stupidly productive with 2-3 pods per stem node. Any hybridisation is more than likely to breed out that trait. A fun one is the Serano x Cayenne. They can be very productive and are almost always hotter. Flavour... meh if you like Cayenne, is ok.
