Very nice tie as usual. I know you are a gentleman because I was ignorant once to you and your handled it with grace and humor. I might add, to my delight. I think I had been addicted to tying for about 6 mos. I have grown to appreciate the delicacy of your flies and the finesse necessary to tie them. Live and learn. All the best to you. Sean

The RFSHN has been my favorite "go to" nymph for 25+ years. I also tie it in smaller sizes on a curved hook and it has replaced most general hares ear nymphs in my boxes (except for the dark olive hares ear!). An excellent searching pattern, also. Whitlock is definitely my top fly tying mentor.

Yes. It is now a classic I think. It as everything I'd ever need in a nymph.

Another simple and versatile-looing nymph! :-)

Not quite. Then I would be using Hare's Ear ;-) There are, indeed, great similarities between the GRHE nymph and the RFS nymph - you have a point. Regards, Hans W

I have had MUCH SUCCESS with this Fly and a similar Hares Ear Nymph using fine silver wire or silver tinsel. Wild Brown trout annihilate them. Especially when the Sun is out.

But will it blend?

Think it would benefit you to watch some Davy McPhail youtube tying videos. It would help you with proportions, portions of material, fly durability, and techniques. Davy is a master.
