Love the reference to Kori as the initial lineup of the Outlaws was Red Hood, Arsenal, and Starfire with Kori and Roy dating and being in a healthy romantic relationship and of course this was after Roy got clean and became drug free and sober.
Hunh. Came back here to enjoy this again but now I'm wondering what happened to my comments from before. I dunno if RU-vid just yeeted them or what, but I left some pretty lengthy ones talking about how much I loved the characterization here, especially for Roy, and what a brill idea I thought it was to have Raven serving as the team's tank. Hmm, maybe I just left the comments under a different video for this project, though? Hopefully that's what it is, and not RU-vid glitching yet again or something. 😭
Hello & thank you very much! We certainly did not remove any comments on our end so apologies if RU-vid was being trippy! But yes we do have a few videos about this project so could’ve been on the trailer or others. Thanks again for the support!
Yeah, I luckily was able to at least find a copy I actually had still in one of my writing apps (I've had RU-vid and other sites crash in the middle of me writing a comment way too many times now, so I tend to write longer ones offline and then just paste them over. 😅). Gonna go ahead and paste it all back over here (edited a bit more for typos) just in case the team never did get to see it before.
*1/2* I'm just gonna keep running commentary notes as I go. In a funny bit of timing, I came across this project on Indiegogo and ended up at the RU-vid page just 17 hours after release, but haven't really had time until now to get to it. Makes me super glad I took that extra time to look, though. I would've missed a real gem otherwise! Just in the first three minutes: 1. The banter at the very beginning with both Roy vs the goons & Roy vs Jason was wonderfully on-point. And I actually like the detail that he wasn't able to get any new intel this time, because not all leads end up being useful, and I really like your idea here to show that even larger, riskier gambles like letting yourself be captured (and tortured!) by the opposition will sometimes have disappointing results in the end. A reminder of the nature of gambling + that stuff realistically isn't gonna always pan out or be a great use of time. 2. One thing I loved about the Arkham Games (and you can also find this in animated Batman materials) was how they gave the thugs so much personality and some really fun/interesting/entertaining dialogue for the players to overhear. The "children are our future" faux-conscientious bit had me cracking up, and then the other dialogue where they're telling fish tales, so to speak, and talking about the boss all felt so on-brand. I was like, "Yes! Those are the Gotham/DC goons I know and love!" Lol. It reminds me of what folks have noted about either Airbender, Korra, or both-how they give you these touches that remind you that the extras are also people with entire lives and minds of their own. "Yo, did you hear Xhao is getting a new office? THREE YEARS I've had this post, and not a peep, but this guy works here for like 5 months and-!"
*2/2* 3. Roy's reaction after Rachel/Raven killed the dude so neatly was perfect. Could've straight-up read it from the page, and in all seriousness I appreciate that he was absolutely willing to give Rach her dues, plus that his deal was that he was just thinking at first it was overkill and then like, "Okay, never mind. Apparently we frickin' need a tank so…welcome aboard! 🤠👌" 4. Just the whole idea of having Raven in the Outlaws is such a clever one. The reasoning you expressed in the behind-the-scenes stuff on Indie makes entirely too much sense. And with Kori away a lot (I have this whole headcanon going on regarding her responsibilities to the people of hers who survived Tamaran and New Tamaran's destruction, lol), it's really great to have someone so powerful on hand. I also like that it's in a different way than the other heavy hitters the Outlaws have had. Has some real potential to add new dynamics, especially since Jason actually has his own connections to magic & supernatural stuff, with not only his resurrection and the subsequent dip in the Lazarus Pit but also his training with the All-Caste and possession of the All-Blades, which are seriously underrated parts of his story and characterization. What's more, he, Roy, and Raven all have these parts of themselves they struggle to control: Raven's demonic elements, Roy's battle for sobriety, and Jason's dealing with the Lazarus' influence. Plus all of them have had rough backgrounds and plenty of baggage to contend with. And the differences in personality and behavior and perspective despite the kinship will also make for really interesting interactions and conflicts. I've complained before about how I always seem to end up getting caught up with tiny underrated niches that don't have a lot available out there for them, and I gotta say it feels like y'all have done that to me here. Now I want to see more stories with this trio, darn it!! 😭🥲👍
@@AhsokaJacksonhey! Just read through your commentary and I want to say thank you so much your thoughtful review! As Preston and I were writing this, we tried so hard to create dynamics amongst the characters that could appeal to people that don’t know the characters too well, but more importantly, excite the people who do know them. We have such a deep love for the source material, I’m glad that came through and you were able to enjoy our little labor of love! Once again, many many thanks, my friend 🔴🏹🔮⚔️
