The red Jaguar screen is a dirty or corroded cartridge. Isoprophyl alcohol and q-tips work the best. If that doesn't work then have to take the two screws out from behind the sticker. Then scrub hard with q-tips and Isopropyl alcohol with the chip on a flat edge of a table while scrubbing right down the gold strips. I know cause my Alien versus Predator didn't work when I bought it. I used like 20 q-tips before I decided to take it apart and really scrub it down hard. Then it worked. Must of used 50 to 60 q-tips on it.

Nice job Mark. I can see why some people might resort to hacking the connector to pieces, without a desoldering station it would probably be the best way. Using a manual solder sucker and solder wick would be an exercise in frustration.

The slot connector looks like a PCI slot, or the added slot on a VESA Local Bus connector. But they might not be exactly the same amount of pins. Always the brave man putting everything together before testing.

This was therapeutic to watch. Had a Jaaaaag back in the day and will be getting one again, so great to have a good heads up on this. Disappointed you didn't use the saw though. :D Wonderful to see Doom being used in the test. That was actually how I played the full version of Doom as my PC really wasn't up to task. Big soft spot for the Jag port of Doom :)

I tried ramming a skunk into a jaguar's slot, but they both went absolutely mental. The skunk got killed, but not before spraying everything. Blood everywhere, it stank and I've been permanently banned from the zoo.

Gadget has more skill than I. This unit will be used at gaming exhibitions, so I was worried that an already bent connector would fail again. After the slot was removed the pin came back into view and I could probably straighten it. It's going into the spares box anyway..
@ches74
@ches74 3 года назад
@@MarkFixesStuff it takes a considerable amount of effort and gadget's dedication has certainly saved a lot of retro kit that others would have given up on. If it's to be used for exhibitions and spares are available it's a no brainer to replace it. I'm curious what's so special about it that there's no current alternative. I'm sure we'd find something if stocks run out or be printing something to fit contacts into.

I have 1 Jaguar with a similar problem, I'll have to see if there are pins messed up in the slot. Do you have a link to where you purchased the replacement slot from? Also, the Skunk board case you have - is that a 3d printed case? Do you have a link to an STL of that or where you got it? Thanks!
@MarkFixesStuff
@MarkFixesStuff 3 года назад
The cart slot was purchased from Best Electonics. Website is here. You'll need to email. www.best-electronics-ca.com/jaguar.htm Skunkboard came complete from Zaxon, so I don't have an STL I'm afraid.

You should use a 10-bit linear interpolation current steering digital to analog converter (DAC) and a Gilbert cell mixer to generate an RF amplitude modulated signal directly. The linear interpolation increases the attenuation of the DAC's image components.
