Red Sector A by Rush, an acoustic cover performed by Mike Massé. I'm performing as a special guest at Rushfest in Criciúma, SC, Brazil on April 12 - 13, 2024! Get tickets here or use the QR code at the end of the video: topedindoingressos.com.br/e/r... That (April 12th) also happens to be the 40th anniversary of the release of "Grace Under Pressure."
Liner Notes: I listened to Geddy Lee's audiobook "My Effin' Life" this past January (2024) while driving around Germany by myself in a rental car, performing 10 shows in 18 days. He recounts how his parents were Jewish and met as teenagers in a Nazi work camp during World War II, and how both later survived the Auschwitz death camp. They were reunited after the war, were married in one of the camps, and later immigrated to Toronto in 1947. I recommend Geddy's autobiography for many reasons, but hearing him recount his parents' story is reason enough.
Geddy talks about how he had spoken to Neil Peart (Rush's lyricist and drummer) about his parents' story, and how Neil used some of it as inspiration for the lyrics to "Red Sector A." Specifically, Geddy's mom had expressed the sentiment that they believed that they were the last people left alive, because otherwise, they would have been rescued. She was in disbelief when British troops arrived to liberate the camp.
"Are we the last ones left alive?
Are we the only human beings to survive?"
Knowing the full (and true) context for this song makes it all the more powerful. Read more about Geddy's family story here:

I heard this song a few weeks ago and thought it might be something I could arrange acoustically. I began with an approximation of the guitar intro played an octave lower. I use my Roland GR-55 guitar synthesizer for the synth string pad you hear following along with the guitar part. I have a GK-3 midi pickup.
I play "four on the floor" with my Wild Dog Bunyip stomp pedal throughout, and I have a microphone under a tambourine played with my right foot.
