What makes me Sick Nobody will ever be able to replace them, Nobody has developed, We were truly blessed to see Neil Pert 🙏 and of course hearing Arthritis is killing guitarist Alex Lifeson he probably will never play a Rush song again with his pain, We were blessed to see this
@@owenb7823 Just different. I'm 63 and been listening to them since I was a young teen. Always bought the new Rush and ZZ Top albums day one. But no way is Rush Better. ZZ Top is the greatest blues rock band of all time. Rush is the greatest prog rock band. I often listen to both still. Why the need to bash others or be a homer for only one band? God bless Neil and Dusty. And to me, both are second to Led Zeppelin. What I rock era I grew up in!
I grew up in the 70s with bands such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Lynyrd Skynyrd. There has never been a band as talented as these three Canadians. They lived their lives without drama and just made amazing music throughout their career. Thank you for being a role model of how a band should be.
I play guitar and agree that Alex is most def amazing. It was a both a blessing and a curse for him to be part of a band with arguably the best rhythm section in rock history. 😄🎹🎸🥁
‘Be cool or be cast out’. This is the quintessential song that represents Rush’s unwavering passion for integrity, honesty, and being yourself. To think your own path. I went over this song with my kids who were at just the right age to relate their world to the ideals of this piece. I think a lot of parents owe a thanks to Rush for this masterpiece.
'Subdivisions' is THE SONG of my life. It changed EVERYTHING I thought about music and being a musician! My Dad gave me the 'Signals album for my 16th birthday in 1982. I had heard of Rush, but I hadn't caught the BUG yet. Some songs have to grow on you, not this one! From the second the Keyboard started I was in AWE!! When I looked at the sleeve of the record and only saw three men I couldn't believe it. This song made me a Rush fan for life. Geddy Lee's mind blowing Bass playing made me a Bassist. It taught me that not every song has to be in 4/4 time or about SEX, DRUGS, and ROCK and ROLL. It made me a better song writer. I have owned ALL of their studio albums and love all of it, but 'Subdivisions' will always be MY Rush song!! :)
Exactly, mine too, when I hear it I am back (in my case 1985, when I heard it first) the intro turns back time into my innocent teens, when I was exploring music, and this made me buy all Rush records, I just started from the first one. I become guitarist and have great respect to their creativity, now I see how complex and evolving their music is. One of these bands you just can listen to over and over. Pink Floyd is another (but I wish they were as good musicians as rush in the beginning)
DAVID, this music reflects the times in which it was written. Rocknroll is music of the baby boomers. The time for progressive rock has come and gone. It will never return.
As Geddy plays the opening keyboard riff and the crowd starts to cheer....I got a chill and just started bawling like a baby. I was not a concert goer. My brother had to pay for the tickets AND literally twist my arm to get me to go to see Alan Parsons Project [my second favorite performing artist] in Las Vegas way back when. I wish...I wish I had taken the cash and the opportunity to go see RUSH just once. But, alas, these videos will have to suffice. 😪
Rush. Canada's powertrio band. No Drugs, No Alcohol, No Groupies, No Profanity on-stage and No Scandalism. Just three highly talented individuals who are great friends, and play the best music ever played. Puts all other bands to shame.
Neil Peart is the most "busy" drummer I've ever seen in my lifetime. He don't just keep a beat like a lot of drummers do, he is constantly in motion hitting his high hat, working it with his foot, and using all the other cymbals, rolling on the toms, changing the beats, etc. I didn't really pay attention as much as I have since he passed, but lately I have really been listening to a lot of Rush and watching their videos, and paying particular attention to Neil's drumming. He was a beast on the drums and in my opinion he's the best ever.
Just so all you think-you-know-it-all kids can crow bullshit like Never have three guys created so much music" I offer you four words: The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Got that? Good.
One of my top 5 Rush songs. Neil wrote these incredible lyrics which became the anthem for thousands of high school kids who never fit in and carry those scars for life:
+Scott Freeman Absolutely pissed these guys are not performing for the Super Bowl Halftime. They are better than Coldplay IMO and unlike many artists that performed the super bowl, RUSH did it all themselves(playing instruments, writing, singing, working their asses off)!
Most great bands have one guy that made them great...usually the front man. Rush drew the Royal Flush with all 3 guys. Hard to imagine one band with this kind of talent. RIP Neil.
Great comment. There have been some amazing power trios -- Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, ZZ Top, Triumph (Canadian brethren to Rush), Grand Funk Railroad, et al -- and Rush certainly ranks up with the very best !
Met Geddy twice, once delivering a parcel to his house and the other time at a place called “The Rosedale Diner”. A lovely albeit quiet man, average in stature but huge in presence. Saw the band in Toronto and they blew the roof off the arena.
+Carlos Rafael Suzzarini You said it!This is where it all began for me. Heard this when I was 15 years old in 1982 and it was like a hammer blow. I remember thinking 2 things - who are these guys and how the hell do they know about me! Not sure what hit me first, the musical virtuosity or the lyrics. It defined me to a tee at that time. Then of course I went backwards through their catalog and moved forward with them. Been a GIGANTIC fan for 33 years and I have loved every minute!
PenTheNinja For me it's just too difficult to put him at #1 without mentioning John Bonham as well. Neil is such a perfectionist and is so precise it's almost not human. Both are (or in John's case was) brilliant. So happy to have seen them both. Incredible does not begin to describe either of them.
@@jasonbroten7956 The difference between Bonham (and I am a HUGE fan of his as well, and of Jason!) and Peart is that Bonham may be one of the greatest pure rock drummers in history, but Neil is perhaps the best percussionist of all time. He can play anything from Rock to Jazz and has created rhythms that new music notation had to be invented to document. Neil has worked with all the major manufacturers from cymbals to drum heads to pedals and helped engineer new methods of building sets so that his rhythms could be replicated. He has gone head to head with the best (Ed Shaughnessy, Buddy Rich, etc) and left them mesmerized.
Neil is absolutely my favorite drummer. "The Professor" is an understatement. Thanks for all the great music Neil. Fortunate to have seen Rush 13 times and every show was fantastic!
This one is my favourite too. The beefed up guitar in this version makes it just as good as the album version. Alex Lifeson is without a doubt one of the best and most underrated guitarists in rock.
Rush definitely has songs with over the top schemes and bigger "musical statements" but this song is just so clever. The changes between sections really push the song along and create a sense of urgency. Best example of 80s Rush to me .
I agree - only because this track introduced me to Rush and I'd have a list as long as my arm if I tried to pick my 'other' greatest songs. I'm big into Marathon at the moment though - our only pure 'rock' station (Planet Rock) has an afternoon DJ who's Rush bonkers and plays it a lot when I'm on the school run. My five year old son knows the chorus and sings along.... he's gotta learn the rest now.
Kept promising my buddy we would go see the boys again after this tour. We hadn't gone in a decade. He passed away in 2011 and now no more tours. These videos are so full of memories. Just great times. You all get it.
This band influenced me a lot in terms of synthesizers, a band of extraordinary musicians. open.spotify.com/album/4iabAXoWdR9dy622RGCZpK?si=QlsnSQylT_eiVMISMF7ucg
Neil, so focused and studious. There is a mathematical precision to his playing. Never faltering, never failing, his process is always precise and exact like a laser. Always spot on. 3 things are guaranteed in this lifetime. Death, taxes, and that the professor will always be the absolute best Percussionist ever known to mankind. God-bless him, rest in peace, Sir.
Simply incredible! Geddy Lee is a freak, sings a lot, plays bass brilliantly and plays synth all at the same time! Neil Peart Is The Greatest Drummer In Rock History And Alex Plays Guitar Brilliantly! The best power trio of music history!
Had the amazing privilege of seeing them live once about 15 years ago. Has to be one of the tightest bands ive ever seen live. It was just pure perfection.
THIS IS AN ART FORM IN MOTION. ❤ WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER GROUP OF MUSICIANS LIKE THESE THREE FINE GENTLEMEN . 👏👏👏👏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Mr. Neil !!🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹❤❤❤❤❤
A very good Friend of mine was riding in my car on day and he asked " man do we need to listen to Rush"? I said no we don't! I pulled the car off the road and stopped. He said what are you doing? I said letting you get out and walk because I'm listening to Rush. You see it doesn't matter what anyone says about Rush good or bad. And it sure doesn't matter what is said about Geds voice. I've heard it all. But since 1974 when I 1st heard them on WMMS I was hooked. True fans who love rush as I do just don't care what anyone says about them.
jasper7522 You must be from Cleveland the rock 'n' roll capital of the world. You probably know this already but WMMS is credited by Rush on Rush's first album for giving Rush airplay to get their feet off the ground.
Yeah- that's shitty. Your friend had a point. There's nothing worse than someone who listens to the same band over and over and over and forces their friends to listen to it as well
No doubt there will never be another RUSH… Listen & learn children….no power trips, no egos, highly intellectual music & just mad respect & love these three gentlemen had for one another & their music!
What a towering piece of music this is. It works equally well as social commentary and musical genius. How they keep everything together with such irregular time signatures beats me. I can't think of another band with such talent.
Consummate performance of a great song. Anyone who is a percussionist should be in awe of Neil Peart's compositional and playing ability at the age of 60 plus. Awesome. ...... R I P Maestro.
In their late 50's/early 60's they continually blow bands away because they are friggin' GENIUSES at their craft. They neither conformed or got cast out. They outlived the "norm".
There was a father and son dressed as Analog. I turned to them and went "THIS IS YOUR SONG!!" and with eyes wide open they nod in agreement haha classic moment that will live in my heart forever.
@@anthonynasti1279 Geddy was a monster up to 2004, after that he lost a lot of his upper register. But he sounded great on his last tour, he made a bunch of changes to his diet and that seemed to “brighten” his voice.
I remember getting seated for the show and looking around at the arena seeing people coming in and just looking up and seeing this camera on a huge gaffe spinning around thinking oh that’s for visuals for the show when I heard the couple behind me say “yeah they’re filming this for their concert dvd” it blew my mind. My first concert with my concert together happened to be Rush in Dallas 2012 and it was captured not only by my eyes but on dvd...🤯🤯🤯amazing show I was up the whole time going crazy being they played so much 80s material my favorite period from Rush. I get to relive this show anytime I want on my tv hehe
This song is just haunting. So good. It instantly takes me back to my early college years and walking on campus trying to find an unknown future career and all the complications of youth and relationships. This song comes on and I'm just instantly in that place in my brain like time travel to the early 80's. Music is powerful and only Rush could've created a song like this. Thank you Rush.
When you go to musicians and ask them to create a list of the top five who they believe is the best drummer, guitarist, bassist, etc, Neal, Alex and Geddy are usually on that list. That's a pretty awesome package.
It's amazing to see the enormous impact that Rush has had over the decades. From watching this amazing video, I was able to see the "old timer" debut album Rush fans that were in their 50's and 60's and then the newer generations, late teens up till early 30's. It was fucking incredible!! I myself started to get into Rush in '82 when I was 12 and never looked back. Since Neil's unfortunate passing Rush's music has meant even more to me and I would be willing to bet millions of other loyal fans!!!
Since I was born in 1973 Rush has always been one of my favorite bands and this is one of the baddest ass rock-n-roll songs of all time. It is what I would call classic rock for my generation and pretty untouchable by today's standards. I think it is insane how talented they are. Alex Lifeson is an underrated guitar player & one of the best ever.
It’s been 6 years since we last heard them on the R40 tour and I miss them so much. There’s a hole in the RUSH family that can never be filled. Now with the Professors death it’s even more difficult to live without either a new album & or a tour. I am so glad that I was able to see them over 60 times during their reign as “the 3 kings”!! Thanks Dirk, Lerxst & Pratt. 💖💖
