I'm thrilled you made this very informative video! Thank you. Now I know why I don't have any green peppers. And I can tell my husband to stop pestering me to pick the green jalapeños 🙂

my store started carrying reds, love them so much, amazing in salsa, their raw taste is slightly savory with a nice strong sweetness, and a very mellow burn

green are much crunchier. the red are simply sweet and soft. this is a good pepper to eat fresh. i would use other peppers for cooking so that you can enjoy these with the crunch as well as red with the sweet

This is so informative! I wondered why I didn't get anything growing from seeds in a green jalapeno. It all makes sense now. :) I'm now going to leave my peppers on the plants to ripen more. We love the heat in my homemade guacamole and burritos! Thanks for the info! :)

Helpful info! I used to work at a Tex-Mex restaurant where I had to prepare 25kg of jalapenos daily. My first day on the job after a couple hours hand slicing the peppers 🌶, I had to use the restroom. Legend has it, they could hear my agonized screaming in the next town 🤣! Moral of the story... WEAR GLOVES!😱

Hi Tikki a generous coating of olive oil on you hands will work well when handling hot peppers. It very good for your hands too. I have used it to remove paint and grease from my hands also. I look forward to seeing more of your videos in the future. Cheers

Local grocery store has jalapenos in one bin and the one next to it is jalapeno reds. The reds cost $1 more per pound but they are all green. Even the reds are green. Now I know the difference. Nobody there did. I bought them yesterday and the store clerks were swamped so I didn't get the chance to ask them.

Great summary on green vs red! I'm in southern cal and have several jalapeños on the plants that range from green to red. I'll be harvesting this week and canning 2 to 3 peppers per quart jar of green beans. Spicy green beers are great.... by themselves or as a garnish in a tall Bloody Mary! 😅

Sounds great, I'll be dehydrating mine later this week, but canning is a good idea too! Thanks for the comment!

Hey there, just came across this video today to learn more about my delicious jalapeños! I noticed that you have a mystery pepper in this video. Well my dear, I believe that would be a cowhorn hot pepper. Hence the shape. I know this video is a bit old but I just wanted to be informative. 😊 hope this helps.

Great video. I love the hot peppers. As obvious as it should be, good info for seed savers. Our peppers are really putting out the peppers now and red is everywhere. Hey, are those fermented peppers overly salty?

VERY interesting! I thought jalapenos are just green. Didn't know they turn red at all. 🤷 This points out to me how out of touch we have become from nature. And I'm now going to be searching for RED jalapenos because I ❤ the spicy!!!

I've heard the same thing several times from different people. Red jalapenos are hotter than green jalapenos. For some reason, and I might be affected by jalapenos differently, I find that red jalapenos are not as hot as the green ones. But, for some strange reason, I find jalapenos are hotter than serrano peppers, and almost everyone else, universally, disagrees with me on that one.

I too find that my green Facing Heaven hot peppers are way hotter than my ripe red Facing Heaven peppers. So much so that I had trouble finishing my salad with the green peppers. Thankfully I need the seeds from the red peppers to grow more plants and also enjoy the less spicy but sweeter taste in my meals.

We have a plant in a bucket which gave us great Jalapenos. The weather is changing, so do discard the plant, or save it for next year? If saved, do we keep watering it? Thanks...

In order to make Siracha they use 40,000 ton of red jalapenos each year,no wonder there is a shortage.

@goodgoat3096

It's a bad idea to use seeds from grocery store vegetables. Most are hybrids and you could end up growing a plant derived from any of the parent plants which might have been selected for speed to market or other characteristics and not flavor. Use only purchased hybrid seeds or seeds saved from preferred self grown heirloom non hybrid varieties. This guarantees that you will get what you want and no surprises.
@cassandracross-soto4133
@cassandracross-soto4133 2 года назад
I agree. But I also enjoy the surprises. Something kind of exciting about growing a vegetable from seed not always knowing what you may end up with.😀

Most jalepenos from the store now aren't hot at all. Almost like a bell pepper. Maybe they just harvest too early.

ive tried jalapenos many times and green ones are ok but then one time i had this pizza from dominos which was a Nduja sausage pizza with red jalapenos and omg it was the best ever i ordered one each week until they stopped making it last year :( at my store they had red jalapenos in a jar so i had them with hotdogs and cheese and stuff. what i found was it wasnt the same as the green ones. the red ones taste more of a tomato, vinegar, hot kick but not so hot. green ones dont taste tomato, vinegar. they are more a peppery kick. i cant get Nduja sausage that easy in england so im looking at others like salami and not peperoni as im not that much of a fan of peperoni. its the after taste that gets me, i mean ill have it for sure but salami doesnt have that after taste and as strong and i like that. i hope to make a pizza next weekend when i get paid. just thinking what and how i should do the sauce. i am not a guy to have like loads of ingredients to make something thats gonna cost me over £10 to make a pizza. i can settle for pizza sauce already made and tinned tomatoes and puree and blender.
