I made cp soap from fresh yellow dock root. It's a weed in my garden. Chopped the root up and boiled it in water for about 10 min. The water was very yellow. I used this as the water in the soap recipe. It turned the soap a very nice burgundy/pink or maybe a deep dusty rose. Hard to describe the color. The soap has super fine suds and "tons" of it. I think you could use it for shaving soap. Your wine soap here is lovely and I bet it smells wonderful. I think if you leave the wine out and get some fresh dock it will be a great color.

@@AmyWarden Indigo Powder & Alkanet Root Powder are some other FUN ones. I am waiting on her book, not sure she has that one in there or not. I am working on a Sea Salt Pumice one today.

I did a lot of experimenting with indigo a few years ago with very interesting results: www.greatcakessoapworks.com/handmade-soap-blog/index.php/how-to-use-indigo-to-color-cold-process-soap/

Hi Amy: Thanks for another wonderful video! A couple questions, if you have time...Why did you mix the yogurt & sodium lactate into the lye liquid instead of into the oils? And what were you testing the soap with while you were cooking it? (You put some soap on a paper towel and added a couple drops of...something?) Thank for the info! I haven't done hot process in years, so it's very interesting to watch. Sly
@AmyWarden
@AmyWarden 5 лет назад
Sure! I was just following Amanda's recipe, so that's why I added the yogurt & sodium lactate to the lye solution. I used phenolphthalein solution to check the soap for residual alkalinity.

Give us an updated picture in six weeks. Wine soaps change color during curing.

You think the pink will develop? It is SUCH a dark brown soap, I can't imagine it, but if it does change I'll let you know!

After watching this, I thought, oh I haven't done this in a long, why not make a CP batch, totally forgot to boil the wine, oh boy that was a mistake, but I pulled it off, have no clue how, but I did LOL, I used Madder Root, nice wine color also
@AmyWarden
@AmyWarden 5 лет назад
I have had a volcano even after boiling and cooling the wine! 😬 Glad to hear the madder root is also a good option for color!

@@AmyWarden Didn't have a problem with Volcano, but processed really really fast, was like putty LOL looked more like HP vs CP, kinda lumpy but smashed it in the mold. never had this problem before :( But it's all good, Thanks for you non-stop inspiration. Love your video's

I have been researching soapmaking techniques, for several years, now, and I have never heard the term, "hot process soap". As far as I know, it is referred to as, "cold process soap". Oxymoronic term, as it may seem to be, this is this case, in my experience.
@AmyWarden
@AmyWarden 4 года назад
Hot process soap is when you apply heat after the oils and lye solution have been combined in order to finish the saponification process. Cold process soap has no extra heat added, but allows the soap to finish the saponification process on its own - usually in about a 24 hour time period.
