I actually like this better than a Taiwan swirl. It looks organic. I wish I could replicate it, but I would never get the same results. Even if I deliberately made the fragrance loads uneven, I could never get the same ratios. 😞
A concern with this recipe (esp for newbies) is that after running this recipe through soapcalc the linoleic and linolenic are at 19 when they really should be below 15 to discourage DOS. I love rice bran too, but it's known to have more issues with DOS so maybe it should be adjusted with a little less RBO or maybe lower both Sweet Almond and RB and add a 3rd oil that would help reduce the L & L levels. The lather is definitely nice but I doubt that'll change much with these small adjustments.
Good points!! I haven't had trouble with RBO causing DOS, but it could be because I had so many other saturated fats in my recipe. My next experiment is to sub the SAO with avocado. It increases hardness and decreases linoleic.
It’s so beautiful, thank you for sharing. I made a Lavandin essential oil soap and use indigo in one part of the butter and accelerated so bad that I had to keep the entire loaf for us. It’s an amazing soap, but so ugly, lol. The rest of the butter was so fluid that I couldn’t believe it. So yes, I will say the color could be the reason.
In that case, I would agree! I've had issues with indigo also. But usually it's titanium dioxide that sets up first if there's going to be a problem. That's why I am pretty sure it was the essential oils.
@@cliviascreations Not usually for me either, but I waited about 15 minutes before pouring, so I'm sure that let the chemicals mingle and do their thing!
I’m going to try this but I’m gonna be bougee and use olive oil, so I’ll run through soap calc. I was soooo lucky to have a friend who gave me about 4 gallons of olive oil!😮
@@AmyWardenI love EVOO. However I’ve also been using Rice Bran for approx 20 yrs. I researched it myself when I was looking for an alternative. It has similar qualities, albeit surprisingly, has an higher Vit E quotient. I find it has a much creamier lather 😊 PS I’m interested to know how you found the end result of this batch i.e. the lather? It looked a beautiful batter.
Thank you for your insights! The lather on this batch is amazing right away as well - just as wonderful as the test batch! I'm very happy with this recipe. :)
Definitely will add to my collection to try. I have been wanting to try babisu oil and incorporate a full vegan bar to my lineup. Will definitely let you when I try it.
Good question!! Too early to tell, but I've used RBO in the past without any issues. You can sub another light vegetable oil if it makes you feel better. 🤗
That’s a very detailed explanation. I love it. My first batch is not that successful and I will use this method for my second try.👍 Thanks for sharing!❤️
One more thing actually, if not all 10 bars from one full loaf/container will fit in my crock pot, how exactly do I know how much of my olive oil to add in to ensure the exact amount gets to all of the soap properly? Thank you!
Hey there! I made a 72 oz batch of cold process soap yesterday.. (2 different loafs/containers of soap that hold 10 bars each) I realized after I forgot 5.6 oz of olive oil.. I am worried it’s going to be too lye heavy now 😭 I am going to try the zap test in a few days. I’m going to try to wait 5 days to ensure it’s saponified enough to test. If it zaps me after 5 days, I can assume it’s too lye heavy. Such pretty soap and hours wasted 😞 however, I’d like to rebatch for the first time to save it as much as possible, even if it’s ugly after lol! If I wait 5 days to rebatch, do I just cut it up and add my missing olive oil to the crock pot? Do I need to wait til it’s melted before adding my olive oil? And will it need water since it’ll have been curing for 5 days already? Also, hopefully 10 bars will fit cut down in my crock pot. But all 20 will not. So do I just divide the missing olive oil amount in half and add half to the first batch I melt down, and then the other half to the second? Lastly, do you think my fragrance oil will die down after cooking it, or should I still hold even after heating it? Sorry for all the questions and thanks so much in advance!!
You should be able to enter the amounts you actually put in the soap in SoapCalc to determine if it is lye heavy. Please don't rely on the zap test. If it won't all fit in your crockpot, I would divide it in half as you described and add half of the olive oil. Then do it again. You can add the oil up front. It will blend in as the soap melts down. If you did a steep water discount, then I would add more water, otherwise you probably won't need it. Depends on the fragrance as to whether it will hold or not. You can add a small amount at the end of the cook if you wish.
Are you asking how long to blend until it reaches emulsification? Because that varies from batch to batch. You just have to blend in short bursts and do a lot of hand stirring until you see that the batter is holding together on the stick blender shaft or the back of a stainless spoon.
@@ladymitch32sunshine88I believe it's only 1.5%. It's been awhile, but it's possible I was using essential oils and their usage rate can be a lot less. Always check the IFRA guidelines for the fragrance you are using to make sure it's safe!
Would be so funny to round the corners like spam and then store them in a can….. but maybe thats going too far 😂😂😂 i love this!!!! It was very fun to watch!!
