I’m a retired from 36 years as commercial airline baggage handler. Safety toe boots was something, not required by my employer, I wore all day everyday. Safety toe footwear has come along way in comfort since I started. Thick leather & Vibram lug soles took some time to break in. The one issue overlooked for a long time in my industry & many others was the durability of the OUTER toe. You could wear the toes out in a matter of weeks depending on how much you worked. As a lifelong skateboarder as well I solved that issue by using the same thing we used as skateboarders to prevent toe wear. Shoe Goo & later spray on truck bed liner. On brand new boots/shoes I would adequately prep then apply 4 coats of Goo or spray. As they would wear I’d reapply after work so they’d have a fresh coat the next day. It was at least 10 years before the boot manufacturers started to incorporate a thick rubber toe cap to their safety toes boots design. Til the day I retired, 3 years ago now, I preferred my method.

Why do so many ppl in ur line of work steal out of bags or entire bags? Especially ones leaving California 🤔 it’s a very common problem here. Constant issues with ppls bags

@@GG.510 I can only speak in regards to myself & those I’ve worked with. I worked for a major airline. At a major tourist destination international airport. At the time I started it was a above average, union job, full paid health/dental/travel benefits job. We made good money & took pride in our work. The airline I worked for, along with other major carriers, have always contracted out services in smaller airports. These contract services generally non union, low wages & little or no benefits. I don’t think I have to go into detail as to what this could lead to. I’m sorry for your loss. I, for one would’ve treated your baggage with respect.

Just want to say thank you to Weston and the rose anvil team. I have bought the same pair of boots every 6 months for several years now (ariat western heritage r toe cowboy boots) and wore them for everything. From work to date night with my lady backpacking and more, these boots were on my feet. After being fed up with having to replace them every 6 months, I found this channel and have learned so much. For instance, my unicorn boot of one piece of footwear for literally everything is just that a unicorn. I have also learned what goes into making a quality boot and just ordered myself a pair of nicks. With plans to buy some more footwear in the future to fufill all the needs of my life. Thanks to this channel my wife hopefully only has to hear my constant bitching about boots until the long wait for my Nicks is over.

To lend some more insight into the lacing system I am a former RW employee. It is a little bit more expensive to get the boa ($5-15 depending on the model) but Redwing specifically (idk ab other brands) does free lifetime boa replacements. As for comfort, a lot of guys who bought boa go back to traditional laced because it can never tighten as much as you want it to be at the bottom, but a lot of guys swear by it. It honestly depends on your food. Another comment on the red wing is that while it seems breathable that shoe can get HOT because of the plastic components. Again, depends on the foot. In my semi-professional opinion the red wings are a great shoe for indoor work. Very popular with lab workers and warehouse folks

Great video, I owned a pair very similar to the thorogoods. The one advantage I will add to it is the fact on the old school sneakers you can throw them in the washer. I'm not sure if you can with the red wings. I switched to boots because the soles of shoes wear out too fast for working on pavement all day.

Through junior high and high school for gym class I wore some steel toed Barharma (sp?) sneakers. All leather or at least leather of some kind and they held up extremely well and in fact saved my foot when in my high school weight lifting class a kid on the squat rack beside me lost it and dropped 315 lbs. The weights hit the mat and bouced before landing on my foot but the steel toe and thick padding ment I walked away with just a slightly sore foot instead of heading to the nurses office. That for me sold me on the idea of a steel toe sneaker for use in places where a regular pair of boots are forbidden.

The Thorogood "Warehouse" Shoes in this video are the exact same ones that led me to discover this RU-vid channel and my decision to buy a pair of Red Wing Iron Rangers back in April.🤣 I bought these Thorogood's on Zappos near the end of February [before they had any reviews]. I loved the fit and feel. But less than two months, the welt failed at the heel on the right boot, causing the upper and sole to separate. I left a review on Zappos warning people about it and saw three or four other people all saying the same thing. Trying to find a good replacement, led me down the rabbit hole of boot reviews and ultimately to the Rose Anvil channel.

There needs to be a colab between the major athletic shoe manufactures and the safety shoe companies. There really is no safety shoe which combines the top foams of Asics, NB, Hoka, Brooks, and others with a nice wide voluminous safety cap. Reebok has some nice models, but I cannot put in the Orange Superfeet insole as the make my toes touch the safety cap. Keep in mind actual leather RW safey boots like the Super Sole series weigh in at 3lbs+ per pair.

Never heard of aluminum toe? They've been fairly popular for 15, maybe 20 years. They're usually called alloy toes, because they're sometimes aluminum, sometimes titanium. They're not as popular as before because they're slightly heavier than composites, but only (usually) slightly stronger than them. With composites getting cheaper and cheaper, alloy toes have less and less to offer. Typically they're less bulky than composites, because to get the same strength, composites need to be thicker than alloys. They might be lighter but they're physically larger, that usually means a larger toe cap, which visually some people don't like, but also usually less room in the toe box. Also composites don't conduct heat, so they're typically not as hot or cold in the toebox in extreme weather, and they're not electrically conductive, which can be a big factor for certain work environments.

One thing I'd love to see you do is measure the width of the toe box when you do a safety toe. I have very wide toes and the deciding factor for me when buying almost any safety shoe is how much toe width is there? A great shoe with narrow toe that rubs me and makes me limp by the end of the day is going to lose out over a mediocre shoe with a roomy toe box that I can wear without any toe pain.

So, metal vs composite safety toes, assuming they can withstand the same impact force, you'd usually prefer the composite as metal does have the nice tendency to deform, as you saw in your test. Which is an issue, in some cases, especially partial hits towards the backside of the toe, they can fold over and actually cut through your foot. Getting your foot crushed is not a pleasant experience in any case, but bleeding out because the toe cut off the front 2 inch of your foot? Slightly less desirable.

You can see pattern and grain variations, not just when comparing two of them, but also when comparing different panels of the shoe. I am seriously confused, it's a full grain sneaker at a price of 85$ with very minimal finish and no embossed pattern at this price point. Thanks in advance, Miha

If you work around horses, it's actually not recommended to wear steel toe shoes. Because the horse is strong enough, that their hooves can bend the metal, and chop your toes clean off. So it's much better to just let them step on your toes, and deal with the pain.

I like work shoes because boots just don't typically agree with me. A little bit more give for my stupid shaped and sized feet. I have a pair of the other boa shoes from RW but not a huge fan of the shoe because the heel is fairly flat which results in some heel slipping for me. Haven't tried the ones here. The heel looks pretty similar though. I really like the teardown videos to see what it all is too. I love having more information on things. Sizing is one of the hardest things for me to find so that's a shame but at least this sort of stuff is floating around there right now lol

I'm liking the thorogoods, but would still go with a proper leather boot steel toe cap

I have the redwings. I'm at a desk 90% of the time. They are comfortable, but the way the shoes look from the top occasionally makes me think I am walking duck footed.

Bro if there's anything in your power that you can do to get thorogood to keep from discontinuing these please do. These are the best steel toe sneakers I've ever had hands down and I really don't want to wear anything else. So unfortunate they're getting rid of them everybody I know compliments me and wants to get a pair on the site I'm on.

What is the problem with hunting boot series? Are Crispi or Zamberlan worth the money?
