Would definitely watch some short game recap vids during the season, maybe once or twice a week if the game is particularly noteworthy would be fun. The DportiBilly guys are good, hope you both rack up some subs during the season.
I think I would put veleno on waivers along with chiarot cause I’d rather have maatta in on defense than chiarot, and veleno hasn’t improved much in my opinion so I think Danielsson or soderblom should get a chance to make the roster
Totally fair assessment. I'm not a Chiarot fan so I wouldn't be heartbroken. And I agree with the clock running out on Veleno. It's now a question of can he be an effective fourth liner at this point
Im going with Cat-Larkin-Ray Ras-Compher-Perron Fabbri-Copp-Kostin Sprong-Veleno-Berggy Fischer Walman-Seider Ghost-Holl Chiarot-Petry Maatta I think Danielson is the only wild card for forwards to make it and the D is a little difficult (except Wal/Seids) because Chiarot was out so we havent seen who they might pair with him.
I would love to see Danielson make the roster, but only if they move Copp to the wing, and make him the 3rd line center. At the end of the day, Grand Rapids is going to be *Stacked* this year.
Soderblom maybe, Simon hasn't looked to impressive. I like danelsion alot but don't see yzerman bringing him up unless theres injurys. Speaking of fabbri is hurt again. He never can catch a break
Yzerman can't just "bring Danielson up". He's not eligible for the AHL this year, so it's either the Red Wings or juniors. And he can't be brought up from the juniors.
I think Soderblom starts in the AHL this year and works his way up. He looks a little slower, awkward, and isn't carrying the puck with the confidence he did last camp. Sprong and Danielson have been stand-outs for sure. 1 guy you didn't mention, that I think has impressed since the prospect tourney, is Cross Hanas. He might be one of those "out of nowhere" guys to keep an eye on
As good as danielson has been, i would be shocked if he's on the opening night roster. Its just a numbers thing, too much depth. And really, there's no point in rushing him. Its about gaining experience right now. Go back to junior for one more year and dominate, kick the door in next year. Not sure why people think veleno might be the odd man out. I see him as a lock for 4c and question who else would take the role. For all the depth, its not at center. Copp and compher interchangeable at 2c and 3c and Veleno at 4c. Berggren is who im concerned about making the team. Without major injury, he isnt in the top 9. Yzerman brought fischer and kostin in for a reason, to be harder to play against. So ive got both on the 4th line with veleno. Its exciting to have these problems, too many quality players is a good thing. Though curious, i dont particularly care who the opening night lineup is. Injuries will happen, prospects will earn a call up etc. Im confident some of the young guys will get solid nhl time this season. How this all plays out interests me far more than the opening night roster. Does kasper get 9 games at the end of the year? Or does he thrive in GR and demand an nhl spot. Same could be said for edvinsson and soderblom. Also, the context in which it happens. Does a run of injuries force it?? Are we sellers at the deadline opening up roster spots at the end of the year?? Or is this a good competitive team all year that got a boost from a young guy making an impact, not treading water when given an opportunity. Should be a fun and exciting season. I am hopeful yzerman has to make very difficult roster decisions all season long. I hope the team forces yzerman to not sell at the deadline, and hopeful a young guy or 2 force a trade to make room.
These are all the questions that we don't know the answer yet! Which makes it exciting. I don't want them to 'rush' any of their young guys, but if they're ready and they earn the spot you have to let them run with it
Even if Danielson, Kasper, Bergeron, or Solderblom makes the team, they will play 4th line minutes, is it really worth it? The only one I see possibly making the team is Edvinsson with Holl and Petry rotating as his linemate and Chiarot being traded as a condition; basically, not likely to happen either....
I see what you're saying , but if they earn a spot and can work their way up, I say let them have a go at it! But being waiver exempt makes the moves so much easier. I think we will see all four of those guys on the team at one point this year
Joe Veleno will have difficulty making the line up. He will likely sit, be sent down or traded. I wouldn't be surprised if Lyon will get more starts than Reimer.. I agree on Nate, very impressed with what he has done so far.
Veleno will likely be fourth line/extra forward to start. Really thought he would show some development over the last few years but it hasn't happened the way I thought it would
I wonder if his class act on niederreiter has any bearing on Yzerman giving him a 1-year contract. I mean, he has done more than Zadina, and zadina got a better contract.
Nate Danielson is not eligible to be part of the NHL roster or the AHL griffins roster due to a WHL rule in regards to his age I believe. From one nerd to another just fyi
The rule is that he plays in the NHL or the CHL (WHL in his case). It’s to keep their good players there for development and not to move them to other leagues like the ECHL or AHL for development. Last year the whole league saw the issues with this deal with Shane Wright and now Wings fans are seeing it with Danielson. I kinda wish that they would alter it a bit to allow some players to move to the better developmental leagues but I also understand that the CHL needs to sell tickets and let’s be honest Danielson will be the reason that some tickets are sold in Brandon.
I think Hirose is a Griffin 100% they won't waste a roster spot on him. Sprong is a winger so Ras would have to play in the middle. Switch Copp to center over Berggren and it's a decent lineup.
